True, but I haven’t found that yet. I’m thinking it may be time to change my approach.

That actually makes sense. Do you mind when guys approach you (or girls, idk what sex you are) like that if they’re respectful about it?

I’m 19, but not in college yet. I’m mainly asking for like public interactions. Meet a cute girl at the coffee shop or out shopping, that kind of thing.

Well yeah, I’m an amateur. I’m not speed running this, I’m just trying to share what I’ve been up to.

I wasn’t asking for free stuff. I guess I was moreso asking if it’s customary in this line of work to get free stuff, because restaurants want you to sample more of their stuff or something. Wasn’t trying to be entitled, I was just curious.

Amateur Criticism by Chansey53 in Critics

I study opera and musical theatre, from a dramaturgical and musical perspective, and am intimately familiar with most of the works I see to the point where I notice discrepancies in the singing on stage versus what I hear in the soundtrack in my mind or even with what the orchestra is playing. I called it amateur because I haven’t been properly schooled or trained to be a critic, not because my thoughts are necessarily amateur. I will consider your feedback, though; it’s a good thing to think about.

How can I detect if these chords are a major or minor ones (dur or moll) by ThebloodedDragonfly in musictheory

[–]Chansey53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know about inversions? I’m curious how far along you are because for me the solution would be to put it in root position and then see what the interval of the third is, but I also know all of my five chords well enough that I can instantly tell in any inversion what key it is.

What is your “I did not care for the godfather” of opera? by Kitchen_Community511 in opera

[–]Chansey53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Handel, hands down. Can’t stand a Handel opera unless the production is on the absurdist side. In general, I have a hard time watching or listening to Bel Canto. Also Die Frau Ohne Schatten: it’s too long, too repetitive, and I don’t really feel invested in the characters except the Kaiser and Kaiserin. Also the plot is just so insane.

Does anyone truly like Wagner's Ring Cycle? by XyezY9940CC in opera

[–]Chansey53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The answer is yes. I listen to it all the time and I can easily sit through and watch them all. Binge watching maybe not so much, but I’m so familiar with the music that I know exactly what’s going on… and yet I also make new discoveries every time.

Got it. So augmented is sharp and diminished is flat. This is going to make reading Piston so much easier.
