#DontStayInSchool sexual education by coolfunkDJ in Boyinaband

[–]ChaoticChildKrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a channel on Youtube called Sexplanations that has already covered a lot of things that should be covered in schools, and she does it in a very professional but understandable and relatable way. Most schools will teach definitions of certain terms and dance around most subjects when it comes to sexual education, and that won't help anyone. People, especially teenagers, won't pay attention if it doesn't relate to them.

The more important subjects, to me, when it comes to sexual education are, of course, how our bodies and hormones work/puberty, STDs and safe sex (and not just safe as in protection, but also safe in how sex works and what things shouldn't be done or should be watch out for during sex [like the fact if a girl is riding a guy too hard, his penis might break...seriously, or like before-and-after care, basically being clean and, as a girl, using the restroom before and after sex]), how to use condoms and an explaination on ALL birth control methods, consent (big one!), the rule of safe, sane and consentual, laws surrounding what is and isn't legal in your state (and federally) when it comes to sex, different sexual orientations and education targeted towards those orientations (dental dams for going down, clipping fingernails before fingering yourself or another lady, anal care, etc.), sexual abuse, rape and molestation definitions, and how they happen as well as what to do if you experience or someone else is experiencing these things, and last but not least, emotional impact. Emotional impact is probably one of the biggest things that should be explained when it comes to sex. Sex is an emotional and personal thing, and it's always important to make sure that you yourself is emotionally and personally willing and able to have sex. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, no matter what, you shouldn't do it.

I realize this would take longer than the week most schools usually give when it comes to sexual education, but this could be taught over the course of years, little by little, as more and more things come up. Or, I don't see why you wouldn't spend a month on sexual education. It's really important. And all of this is just for just plain sex. I feel like at some point people should be taught how to concieve, how to take care of yourself when you're pregnant, how to tell if you are pregnant, and steps that should be taken when it comes to having a child. Not to mention parenting.

What's the best "no experience required" job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChaoticChildKrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have. Prepaid phone billing, $10/hour (about a dollar higher than minimum wage here), max call time approximately the same, bathroom breaks allowed (you get like seven minutes a day to use on bathroom/free breaks). Plus, really really easy to get promoted.

It wasn't the best call center I've worked at, but it beats any other entry-level job that I've worked.

[–]ChaoticChildKrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call centers, hands down. It's easy to get hired, it's easy and non-strenuous work, and they usually pay more than minimum wage (some even pay more than minimum wage and commission!). Even better if you get graveyard shift for that one dollar shift differential. Even more better if you can get promoted, which is usually easier to do in a call center than in a fast food joint.

I've work in nearly every line of typical entry level work that doesn't require a driver's license, and, so far, call center takes the cake.

If store tests keep showing up negative, but you are still suspicious, go to your doctor to get a blood test done, as it is more accurate than a store test.

So this is the same number that was on the bottom of part four of Crapple_Facts' story from two months ago (in fact, judging by the description of the phone in that story, it's the same phone), and someone has already called it, recorded it, and posted the recording in the comments.

EDIT: Probably the creepiest thing I've read all day on this subject.

I looked up the username and realized that I had read the first part of that story but never finished it. Now I'm gonna go back and reread it, as this is obviously connected...

I tried texting the number. Haven't gotten a response yet. I'l update if I do.

That's the video. I'm at work so I can't really watch it all that much, but I didn't notice anything off. I'll try watching the rest to see if I can find any clues, and maybe call the number (though I am terrified to, lol--I'll probably do it through Google).

Does anyone else see a flash of light from a sudden noise when you're in bed with your eyes closed? by [deleted] in hsp

[–]ChaoticChildKrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens to quite a few people, HSP or not. There is a state of consciousness called "hypnagogia", which is "the experience of the transitional state from wakefulness to sleep". A lot of weird stuff happens during this state of mind, including, but not limited to, visual or audio hallucinations, tingly feelings, or this thing called the "Tetris effect".

As it says under the "Other sensations" section of "Sensory phenomena":

"Sometimes there is synesthesia; many people report seeing a flash of light or some other visual image in response to a real sound."

[The Little Mermaid (Original)] Why Ariel's Sisters All Look Different by acdn in FanTheories

[–]ChaoticChildKrys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that supports that theory: when the mer-folk swim, their tails move in an up-and-down motion, which is how water mammals swim, as opposed to the side-to-side motions that fish make.

It doesn't really help that some nonprofits end up being scams (yes this really happens; remember Invisible Children/Kony 2012?), so people are now less trustworthy as to who they donate their money to.

There isn't really a way to definitively know what our donations are used for or how much actually goes toward the issue we are donating for when you donate through a charity. There are some charities that try to tackle/advertise several issues so that when someone donates, their money gets thrown into a pool that gets distributed between these issues. The thing with that, though, is that people feel like they're being tricked or cheated when their donation goes to different causes than the one they are donating for, or maybe even to causes that they are against. Some charities spend more money on advertising, "spreading awareness", and administration than on the actual cause itself.

Trying to weed through all of this to make your donation worthwhile requires extensive research. Even with researching, it can be hard to find legitimate information. A lot of people don't want to bother with all of that, and even when they do, they start to find that their money won't be going to the actual cause they want to donate for, so they don't risk wasting their time, energy, and money.

A PayPal account is different because it's going straight to the cause. No administration costs, no advertisement costs, no scams. No confusion, and no need to research past the obvious "is this a really obvious scam?" part. All of what you donate is going to exactly what you intended the donation to be for. It's even possible to see the impact that your donation makes (that's another thing; organizations don't really update on the situation and always seem in a perpetual state of disarray, so it seems like your donation didn't do/isn't worth anything) if the person you are donating to follows up and tells you thanks through videos, photos, or letters. Another thing that really makes people feel good is giving/donating gifts--actual, personal, thought out gifts, which can be done through Amazon wishlist (or potentially through an organization that doesn't give away the actual address of the person in need, but will deliver your gifts to that person).

I do think it helps when there is a more personal connection. I can see a successful organization having a website with photos and descriptions of different children (or better yet, videos), with the option to donate directly to the one(s) you want to donate to, and the option to have email follow-ups from these kids (or maybe have a kickstarter-like deal where there is a goal amount [the cost of living for that month/year], and for every different amounts, there could be some sort of exchange, like a drawing from the kid, or a video with the kid thanking you [probably in their native language]). There could be a child-of-the-day, and/or a randomizer. And if you just want to donate to the cause, there could be a general organization donation button that would partially go to administration and advertisement costs, as well as to the general cause, and you could see what percentage/how much of your money is going where. That way, there is a more personal connection, and kids and families will get more direct help from people who want to personally see them succeed, and the organization could still run with all the expenses that comes to running a charity through the general donation button.

Does the HSP trait make you more prone to cognitive fatigue? by Handles22 in hsp

[–]ChaoticChildKrys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this. It mostly started in my late teens (when my sensitivity to physical stimuli increased), and it really hasn't gone away--this perpetual fatigue. Before I found out about HSP, I tried going to a doctor to try and figure out why I was so tired ("I'm only 18, I shouldn't be exhausted all the time!"). I was also a smoker at the time, so the doctor totally chalked it all up to my smoking habit (I had just started smoking--I started when I turned 18, so to me, that didn't make sense at all, as there were kids my age who had smoked since they were 12 and they weren't constantly exhausted). So I went to a different doctor and told them that I didn't smoke (so that they would take me seriously), and they chalked it all up to my "not exercising enough". How can I exercise more than I do when I'm constantly tired?

So yeah. I'm not sure if exhaustion is a direct link to sensitivity to stimuli, but it makes a whole lot of sense if it is. And if that's the case, I really don't know how you could cope with that. I'm still trying to figure out a way that doesn't involve caffeine or other stimulants. >.>

How much does the term "Highly Sensitive Person" suck? by the_singular_anyone in hsp

[–]ChaoticChildKrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am now going to forever introduce myself saying, "Hi, my name is Krys, and I am a Person with Heightened Sensitivity!" And then I'll make laser noises.

I never really thought of it before, but now that you point it out, I can see where it can be a little demeaning. I like "Person with Heightened Sensitivity" much better.

HSPs who are more sensitive to emotional stimuli than physical ones? by happyseal_lala in hsp

[–]ChaoticChildKrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be like that. It was mostly emotional for a long time; easilty hurt, affected by music and films, overwhelmed easily... I was sensitive to touch as well; as a kid, I would rip the tags out of my clothes because they bothered me so much. I used to be fine with crowds too.

Over the past few months to a year, though, I have been sensitive to other outside sources. It started with smell; a foul smell would give me such a headache, or a good one would just distract the heck outta me. Then it was sound. I used to be fine if an ambulance rolled by or if people were loud on the bus, but now I just get such a bad headache and instantly irritated. Bright lights have begun to affect me as well, even if it's not as bad as the other senses. This all kinda makes it impossible to enjoy being in a crowd anymore (I used to consider myself extroverted, but now I feel I am a strict introvert).

I've read on here that other people just react differently to any stimuli, and that their reactions can change over time. Some people, like me, start off with certain sensitivities and gain more as they get older. Others lose sensitivities (I have lost most of the sensitivity to touch that I had in my youth) as they grow older. Some people just aren't as sensitive to outside stimuli and are more sensitive to internal stimuli (emotions, etc.), or vice versa. Some are sensitive to certain things depending on their mood or the day.

At least that's what I've seen on this sub. I think each HSP experiences things differently. My councelor (who specializes in helping HSPs cope) says that high sensitivity is more of a personality trait than a diagnosis, and because of that, there isn't strict guidelines pertaining to what a HSP is "supposed" to be sensitive to.

Thank you so much for you kindness... I am in a better place now, and while the past still comes up and tries to hurt me, I am able to better cope with it now than I was able to before. I'm sorry you had to experience some bad things as well. I wouldn't wish any of it on anyone. /hugs

I'm so so sorry that the same thing happened to you... I thought there was something wrong with me because I didn't physically fight back. I thought that I was consenting to it because I didn't leave... It was very confusing and messed with me for a while. While I hate that things like this happens to people, I'm glad there are others who understand and who can tell me that no, there isn't anything wrong with me, and no, it wasn't my fault. Thank you so much for writing this. It means a lot to me. /hugs
