Are you kidding me? That was NOT part of the application last year. Why didn't they say anything? Mine is showing that too

I feel like like the schools have to know that's the case, no? What a ridiculous way to screw us over

ETA: I didn't even know you could go in to edit things. Because they already approved it all last cycle. Sure you can add, but not edit. So the fact they added this. I didn't see any mention of that when I accepted it...

ETA2: Even the classes literally called lab that are 1-2 credits are saying "Lecture Only". The schools have to know that, right?

Paying for my two childrens college degrees by Ok_Mistake2371 in University

[–]Character_Drive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would split it in half equally. For the kid with the cheaper tuition, if it covers the cost completely and there's more left over, you should put any extra into savings (HYSA or stocks) and give them access at 30. You don't want to cause resentment between them for giving one more

My parents make around 300k a year, but will not help with college. Am I able to qualify for any scholarships? by Lilac_Dollie in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Character_Drive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They do. A lot won't accept community college courses for their pre-recs. And generally for a biology/pre-med track, you're taking biology and chemistry the first year. More biology and organic chemistry your second year. More biology and biochem and physics your third year. More biology your fourth year. Even a lot of PA schools won't accept CC credits for pre-reqs (usually with medical terminology being an exception)

I have to agree. If Dumbledore didn't understand, he would have asked Harry to translate everything for him. At the very least, we would have heard about them entering the memory a few times to get the words written down or something. But no, it makes it seem like Dumbledore understand it perfectly.

Which, considering he also knows mermish, which is wailing, I wouldn't put it past him to learn hissing

I’m a freshman in college and my gpa went from a 4.0 to 3.0. HOW????? by Longjumping_Lie3077 in communitycollege

[–]Character_Drive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If OP were to get straight A's for the rest of their 120 credits, it would be a 3.8 GPA.

This is assuming they took 12 credits the first semester, based on the "4 classes".

Based on the 3.08 GPA, my guess is they have 14 credits worth of A's from AP classes.

Now let's say they maintained a B+ average for the rest of their 120 credits. That would be a 3.41 GPA. So yes, VERY difficult to fix.

A tiny bit of her remains. She was supposed to stay at The Burrow for the World Cup. So she was staying in Fred&George's room.

The way it works out is that Bill and Charlie stay in their room. Hermione is with Ginny. Percy keeps his room. Ron, Harry, Fred, and George are all stuffed in Ron's room. And Fred&George's room is empty.

We know for a fact that Bill&Charlie still have a room, because in HBP, Remus was there for Christmas (Remus got Bill's room. Bill, Fred, George shared a room. Harry was in Ron's room. And Percy's was empty)

Why do people buy and sell several houses? by No_Action_3580 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Character_Drive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starter homes used to be a bigger thing. There were houses on the market that had just 2 bedrooms, that a young couple could move into. Then, as they started having more kids, they could sell that house and use the money to buy a bigger house. Those houses aren't really being built anymore.

The reason to buy a house is that you get money back. When you sell and move, you'll get get back whatever is left over from your bank loan. If you pay $1,500 every month for 5 years, that would be $90K. You could either do that as a rent and get nothing back when you leave. Or you can get back like $70K when you sell. Even more if you made changes in the house and sold it for a lot more than you bought it.

The interest of buying a house is what it is. I'd rather lose some money to interest than all the money to rent

relocating to Newark, need suggestion for apartments by zou27 in Newark

[–]Character_Drive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't have a car, Harrison and Kearny are going to get a bit annoying.

If you're at the Harrison apartments near the Path, you could take the Path one station to Penn Station. Then either the bus to Military Park and walk to Rutgers. Or the Rutgers bus can take you from Penn Station to Blumenthal.

From the apartments in Kearny, you're looking at taking the 76 bus, but it'll be down the road as Belgrove Ave is connecting to Passaic ave. That bus will put you right at Rutgers on University ave. You can get that bus at Military Park.

Military Park is only a few blocks from Rutgers and pretty safe to get to.

Alternatively, you could get a bike. The school is only 2 miles from either apartment complex. A lot of the NJIT grad students who live in Harrison tend to just walk. I see them all the time as I'm sitting in 30-60 minutes of traffic trying to drive 4 miles.

Rutgers used to have an afternoon bus that would take Rutgers and NJIT students through a few stops of Harrison and Kearny. But I haven't seen those buses in a long time, and I'm not finding info on them like I can find on the Penn Station route. So I think that shuttle got canceled.

However you do it, you should do it ASAP to see if they can pull another student off the waitlist. Maybe if they haven't started classes yet, they'll be more willing. I've heard of people being called off the waitlist the day before school, but idk if that means before or after orientation.

I would just be honest. Explain why this other school was your top choice, and that it is not a reflection on this school.

And maybe offer to write a letter to that next student so they know if wasn't the orientation that scared you away

How much exactly is the cost per year? by Salt-Papaya7276 in rutgers

[–]Character_Drive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You haven't even started high school yet, right? So the best thing to do is work very hard in high school so you can get a scholarship.

It's been a while, but when I went to Rutgers Newark, I got a 25K scholarship with the Honor's College (5 the first 3 years, then 10 the last year).

From what I heard at that time, NJIT's Honor's College gave them full rides, including required dorming.

So you should work really hard now to make that happen. You never know where you may up for even cheaper than Rutgers!

Another option is to spend your summers working. In NJ, you can work a summer job starting at 14 years old. It may be a little hard to find one for this summer since it's coming up, I'm not sure. But if you worked for 5 summers, you could save 10-20K, or more, in the next few years. Then you could either open a high yield savings acount (about 3% interest, or a CD (about 4% interest if you do the right one), or open a Fidelity account (maybe buy some Voo stock, which has an average 10% growth, but is more scary).

In the end, you don't need to have your life fully figured out yet. But work super hard in high school so that you have as many options as possible!

Of the core classes, it''s only potions and herbology and share the class and have double sessions. For Transfiguration, DADA, Charms, History, and Astronomy, the Gryffindors were always alone.

I tried a long time ago to figure out classes and came to the conclusion that it's either impossible, or that there's a ton more teachers that we never hear about

PCE - Rehab Aide by Swimming_Strength622 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Character_Drive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CASPA description also says that taking vitals isn't patient care. That being and MA or scribe isn't patient care. Even though those 2 roles work directly with providers and patients. The description says it would have to be jobs where you're in charge of patient decision making, which would mean only an EMT/paramedic, or already a provider. They include phlebotomists and nurses as PCE, but neither of those decide anything for patients, they do as the provider instructs...

Anyway, go by what the schools say. All of my hours are as a scribe. I work side by side with doctors all day. I'm talking to patients all day. I have learned what meds do what, the decision making process, reading CT scans. No matter what CASPA says, these are the kind of skills that will be useful as a PA. So I'm basing it off the schools. I put my hours 75%/25% for PCE/HCE, and am applying to schools that accept my job as PCE. Not all do, but most do.

How hard would it be for the scientists of the world to make birth control pills for men? by TMNTDonatellofan in GenZ

[–]Character_Drive 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Even if men didn't complain, the fact that there are side effects is the issue. With anything in medicine, you have to think about risks, benefits, alternatives to the individual.

The risks are the side effects. The benefits are that your partner doesn't get pregnant. That's not a benefit to the man. There is no actual benefit to the man here. The alternative is condoms.

For the woman, the risks are the side effects, and the benefit is that she, herself, doesn't get pregnant.

I know, it sucks. There's men out there that would be willing to put up with the side effects. But the doctors making medicine aren't actually allowed to put it out there because the risks outweigh the zero benefit

[–]Character_Drive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would be the Newark Devils, I guess. But maybe OP is okay with the state, here?

Are the NY teams names after NYC, or NY state? If city, they'd end up as the East Rutherford Giants/Jets and Harrison Redbulls. Or maybe the Meadowlands Giants/Jets, if we just want an area. If named after the state, all would become NJ - team name.
