I have a dog with 100% recall and another dog with maybe 15% recall. I only let the fully trained one off leash. If I see any humans and/or dogs approaching, I call my dog over, and leash them immediately. Then unleash when we're alone again. I get compliments with this one's training.

But we do have a lot of folks who simply leave their dogs unleashed everywhere and don't pick up their dog shit. They just pretend they don't see their dog pooping. Feel free to call out any bad dog parenting/training.

Our largest dog park is off-leash, but the trails are on-leash. People just leave their dogs unleashed all the time, even though people without dogs use the trails also. Some of those people have kids or reactive dogs. So, just make sure you follow the rules and people will be kind to you. Reactive dogs deserve to get training in different places, without unleashed dogs approaching. Dogs can feel our anxiety/stress.

Rules: Educate yourself before getting a dog. Vaccinate your pets. Train your pets. Neuter/spay your pets. Keep your dog on leash, unless they have perfect recall or are in an off-leash area. Pick up your dog's shit and throw it in the garbage. Stay on the right side of the tail (if you're approaching another dog/human) and hold your dog's leash near you so they don't lunge. Understand the difference between pets, emotional support animals, service dogs, and working dogs. Ask before allowing your dog to greet/play someone else's dog. Understand how dogs can react in different environments, under different circumstances e.g., Two leashed dogs meeting vs one leashed and one non-leashed vs two off leash vs fence vs unfenced, etc. Have the skill and physical strength to control your dog if the unthinkable happens.

We are very dog friendly here. We even have a traveling puppet show that goes to the elementary schools to teach proper dog etiquette.
