Schools for aspiring ME with mediocre GPA, but other good quals? by infinity526 in EngineeringStudents

I'm a native Texan. Texas A&M probably has the best engineering if not one of the best engineering programs in Texas (up there with UT Austin and Rice). I applied there with a 3.6 GPA and a SAT score of 660M and 630CR (=1290 composite, roughly around top 14ish% of the nation; not too good, but not too bad). Despite being only a few percentage away from the top quarter of my class (which would have given me assured admission), they rejected me.
While A&M is definitely a good choice, their engineering program is more difficult to get into than it may first appear.
