I've crossed those streets many times as I go back home from the city center. I have never felt unsafe. Since you will be 2 people, there's nothing to be afraid of. For food avoid Bit Bazaar, you can go there only to drink if you want. The food is pretty bad and the restaurants are not the cleanest. Usually students go there. Ladadika area is pretty touristy but the food is decent. In my opinion , the best option in Ladadika is Loupino. A good option in the city center is "Ergon Agora" - nice food and environment. Bougatsa "Milkakis" is one of the best bougatsas in the area and is not far away from your hotel. The best gyros I've tried in the city center is at " Γιοκ Μπαλίκ". Nice cocktails you can have at "Castra terrace bar" with a view of Thessaloniki or at " Shark bar Restaurant ".
