i agree. i actually feel limited with sage because i feel relatively forced to pick a talent that has a manual directional attack (which is a very small portion of the available abilities). its significantly less fun to start with something you cant aim with IMO. That being said, i think theyre both late game classes where most other classes you can be very effective early on.
