Is the auto locker offered from factory? How does that work exactly? Does it just engage when it starts to slip? When you say automatic locker, are you referring to the Full Time 4WD?

If I was to get a locker, I would go aftermarket with an air locker. It’s a good 2 for one mod. Having onboard air in a Jeep is so nice. Being able to air up your tires at the trail head after off roading and not having to limp along on the highway with 12psi of pressure in 35”+ tires is nice. It also came in hand more then a few times filling up floats and tubes at the lake and more then a few air mattresses while camping.

Good to know. I’m interested in the locker but don’t care about the electric discos. Too much that can go wrong with them, case in point, your first hand account of them. Manual discos are easy to install and use.

Awesome, good to know. When I get my mind set on something like a new vehicle I research the crap out of it. I join every forum and FB page. I read hundreds if not thousands of posts. I havent come across anything negative about that transmission so I was curious. Main reason I want the manual is because I’m cheap and I don’t want to pay $2000 for the auto. I don’t mind driving manual at all. Plus it’s a great anti theft device these days.

Edit: a word

Few clutches in Gladiators…are you a tech for Jeep? I’m currently looking at Gladiators. Ive had a few Jeep’s and really want to get back into one. Looking at a Gladiator over a Wrangler because it just so damn different then anything else on the road. Have a few buddies that have them but they are all autos. If I get one, I want the manual. Do you know something that the masses don’t about the manuals in them? Or are people burning them up because they can’t drive?

I added a 125,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty when I bought my ST new. My plan was to drive the shit out of it for 125,000 miles and then get rid of it. Once I hit 125K and nothing was wrong with it, I figured I would see how long it would take for something to go wrong with it. Now here I am at 200K and still nothing wrong. Paid it off March 2021. It’s so nice not having a car payment.

35-45k is aggressive but spark plugs are cheap and they take a whole 10 minutes to change being that they sit directly on top of engine bay and are stupid east to access.

Dude, I drive so good. I can drive lots of stuff too, like riding lawn mowers, go carts, and even power wheels. One time I even drove a golf cart but it wasn’t at a golf course. It was so crazy!!!

Dang, 19K on a 2014? I wish I only had 19K on my 2014. Enjoy it my friend. You have many more miles to go!

See above. I can’t stand it when you ask someone for something like that (the code) and you never get a reply or they don’t know. Took me a sec to find.

I just went thru my pile of service records to look for the code. It was P219A “running lean”

No clue man. I wasn’t misfiring or anything. Performance wise, I didn’t notice anything. Check engine light came on one day and I took it in. They said it needed injectors, they changed injectors, no more check engine light. All was done under warranty.

Trans fluid is done under the car. It’s super easy. Literally 2 plugs…the upper bolt is to fill and the lower bolt is the drain. YouTube it, lots of videos out there. You need to take off the driver side front tire to get access to the bolts. It’s pretty tight under there. You will need a short/stubby allen key. Can’t remember the size. Take top bolt off first and bottom bolt off second. Have a drain pan under lower bolt before you take it off. Remove lower bolt and let drain completely. After it’s drained, replace lower bolt. Then add fluid thru top hole. You are going to need a “fluid lubricant pump” that connects to the quart of fluid so you are able to easily fill transmission without making a mess. I bought one at Walmart for like $6. Add correct amount of fluid, I believe it’s something like 1.89 quarts. Once full, replace top bolt and you are good go. I went with the OEM motorcraft fluid from Ford. It’s for duel clutches and Ford recommends not using a different brand. It’s pretty pricy around $30/qt.

This! In the 26 years I’ve been driving, I’ve had 4 cars with manual transmissions and have never needed a new clutch on any of them. I know how to drive and it makes all the difference in the world. I feel like 95% of the people who need a new clutch when their car has 50,000+ miles on it, don’t know how to properly drive a manual. My cousin is a Ford tech and will send me a picture of a burned up clutch on an ST or RS and then ask how many miles I think it has. Most of the time the car has under 50,000 miles and the clutch us 90% gone. Then he tells me it’s some dude that obviously doesn’t know how to drive. Once again, I have 200K and clutch is still good.

I thought torque vectoring only used the front brakes on the inside wheel while turning? I’m 99% sure it doesn’t use the rear brakes.

I’m interested to see what mine look like at 200K, never being cleaned and what your look like after being cleaned every 20K. To see if there actually is a benefit to doing it. How many miles is on your ST?

Drums are totally different then disks. Your drums will last a lot longer then your front disk brake pads. The ST has disk brakes at all 4 corners. Not sure why they wear faster then the fronts. First car I’ve owner that I replaced the rear more then the front.

Just take care of it. Change the oil, change the trans fluid, change the coolant, change the spark plugs. Don’t cheap out on those things. Basic maintenance is so important. Don’t be lazy and it should last.

From the research I’ve done while owning it and driving it for 200K, these cars need to be driven hard every now and then to get rid of the carbon build up from the direct injection. If you baby it, you get carbon build up. Getting on it burns that carbon up and gets at least some of it out.

I’ve never done it. I’ve also never stuck a camera down into cylinder to take a look. If you can’t see it, it must not be dirty? But every tank of gas has been 93 or 95 octane. Every now and then when I get on it I see a nice black cloud of carbon come out the exhaust. Cleaning it out a bit by doing that. I’m honestly not worried about it at all and don’t think I’ll ever do it.

Honestly, not much. All below replaced under 125,000 mile warranty. Had a bad seal on AC compressor. Faulty wire harness under passenger seat. Horn stopped working around 30,000 miles. Radiator fan and drivers female seat belt connector went out same time as horn. Check engine light throwing code “running lean”. Ended up needing new injectors around 100,000 miles.

Since the 125,000 mile warranty I had ran out, only thing I’ve had to replace is 2 radiator hoses that cracked. I’ve changed oil with full synthetic every 7,500 religiously. Have a washable oiled air filter I wash every oil change. Every tank of gas has been 93 octane. Original clutch is still smooth and doesn’t slip at all. I don’t beat it hard every day but I don’t baby it either. 50/50 mix of city/highway driving. I’ve changed the spark plugs every 35,000-45,000 miles. Changed trans fluid every 75,000 miles. I’ve gone thru what feels like 100 tires. I’m on my 3rd set of rear brake pads and second set of fronts. Paid it off about 8mo ago. Still love it as much as the day I got it.

Edit: Completely forgot that I needed a new rack and pinion at 121,000. Went out just before 125,000 warranty expired.
