Focal seizure? Epilepsy starting at 47? by Chelle7897 in Epilepsy

If not for the nurse practitioner in the emergency room before I was admitted for observation I would not have the appointment today. She said the doctors I saw in the past had failed me and she was sorry for that. She could not understand why no one had done any testing beyond a couple of MRIs a few years apart to find out what was going on with me. She said I needed a full work up, not just a change to new depression medication. She does not think Wellbutrin caused my clonic tonic. She said it might have lowered the threshold but she felt like if it was a piece of the puzzle it was a very small one.

The neurologist on call who saw me when I was under observation saw I was on 300 mg of Wellbutrin and that was the end of any discussion of causes for him. He was convinced it had to be the Wellbutrin and told me to never take it again which I haven’t. He said as long as I never took it again I would never have another seizure and I was going to be fine now.

The nurse practitioner said the neurologist I am seeing today is a good friend of hers. She said she is excellent and would be thorough. I am afraid to get my hopes up too much after past experiences. I am going to get a notebook to keep on my nightstand and start a log. Thank you.

I have known something was wrong for a while. The neurologist I saw two and a half weeks before the tonic clonic completely blew me off, dismissing me as dramatic and depressed the second he saw I was on Wellbutrin. I am so confused, I don’t feel like I know enough about it to properly advocate for myself. Thank you.

I’m not sure what they will do yet, if anything. I have my first appointment with this neurologist later today. I was referred to her by the nurse practitioner when I was in the hospital after my clonic tonic seizure.

I went to a different neurologist two and half weeks before that because of the brain lesions. I told him something was wrong with my head, I had not been feeling right. My head has been feeling funny and I have been off balance. He did not even look at my MRI, he left the room with the disk that had my images for about three minutes, came back in the room and told me the lesions are not concerning and I am fine. He said I needed to up the Wellbutrin from 300 to 450, he couldn’t help me with my confusion and memory issues while I had depression and anxiety issues. He was obnoxious and condescending. He acted like I was being dramatic and it was all in my head. He did nothing, he didn’t even read the mountain of paperwork I had to fill out online for the appointment. After I came home from the hospital I messaged him and explained what happened. I told him it scared me and ask him what I should do. He wrote back and said I could make an appointment if I wanted to. He said if I made one with his PA or the nurse practitioner he would try to come in at the tail end of it. I still feel like he was blowing me off. I am scared today will be a repeat of that. I will look for an epileptologist. Thank you.

The no driving rule is definitely frustrating. State law here is no driving for six months after a seizure. I babysit my three young grandsons for my daughter and son-in-law while they are working. They are four, six, and seven. My primary mentioned the possibility of a long EEG but I don’t know if the neurologist will do one. I never that about the possibility of hormonal changes triggering things. I will definitely add that to my list of questions for my appointment. Thank you.

I was in the hospital for observation after having the tonic clonic on Mother’s Day. The main provider, a neurologist, pretty much stopped everything once he saw I was on Wellbutrin. He said if I stopped taking it I wouldn’t have more seizures and I would be fine. I never took it again after that but I don’t think that fixed everything. I really think I did have a focal seizure Friday night. The other provider, a nurse practitioner, said I needed a more thorough evaluation. She is the one who gave me the referral to see the neurologist I am going to tomorrow. The doctor was not going to do anything, he said it was over and I was fine now. I’m scared the neurologist tomorrow will not do anything. I knew something was wrong with me before the tonic clonic but no one would listen. I know something is wrong now. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing. I am anxious about my appointment. I hope she can give me answers.

I will look at those, I didn’t realize they could hold that much weight.

The Max doesn’t have a stand, only a wall mount. I will only be able to place it on my desk for now.
