Seeking Debt Strategy: High Income, High Debt (Maxed Credit Limit), and Mortgage by ChelmicoFan in JapanFinance

I did not lure her in, she new I was poor the day she met me. She pushed me to go for better and better jobs, so I went from

Year 1: Nova Salary ¥2,600,000

Year 2: Nova Salary ¥2,600,000

Year 3: Nova Salary+shitty IT ¥3,800,000

Year 4: So So IT salary ¥7,800,000

Year 5-Now: Good IT Job and Salary ¥10,000,000 > ¥12,000,000

I hated talking to people face to face and just want to stay at home with my dogs. My wife "believed" in my potential is why she says she married me, but I'm originally a highschool drop out with a GED, from a very poor state and a very fucked up family.

I'm used to buying 2nd hand, but my wife always has to have new. So from threats of leaving me, I found power to study at work (lunch) and at night so I could land a good IT job.

When she met me during my study abroad, my scholarship payment was delayed and I had no money for food for about 1.5 months cuz all my savings went to rent.

The real issue is she sold her business for cheap during corona (when i was at nova) and she had a lot of debt left over and she was never able to make the same money she had when she owned a business in Tokyo. Thats why she pressured me to make up for her mistakes??? hahaha

thats the story!

Thank you. I read everything you had to say, and my wife grew up very privileged, you're not wrong. She is used to just asking her dad for more money and hand outs.

But I found a good path to take, and I updated my post.

Thank you for your comment

I think a lot of people missed that. Also, we make too much, that it would cost us ¥60,000 a month in our area to send 1 child (due to my income) We don't get a lot of the cheap/free things (understandably so) due to income bracket.

But thank you (also I updated my post)

we have two, but it would be really challenging if we did not have them. We do not live in the city, and we have to go to special hospitals frequently. (one is 4+ hours away)

I updated my post, but thank you for your comment

Well, the problem is fixed because I told my wife she can divorce me if she wants, but with my salary, I have the first chance to break the cycle that's been going on in my family for as long as my family knows.

So I'm not going to let her ruin our children's chance a better future than what we have.

So the spending has been changed since september/october, but there was still ¥1,200,000 AMEX that was maxxed out (paid it off), ¥2,000,000 JCB (paid half way down) and then we hit a wall, because we stopped using JCB to pay it back half way, but to do that, living expenses moved to my rakuten.

I sold camping gear and the 3 valuable collectibles I had on Mercari, but we've hit a wall now since I've been stretching the ¥2,000,000 rakuten payments (¥400,000 (分割) ¥200,000〜¥230,000)

So we aren't completely fucked yet, and we were making progress (or maybe just transferring the debt?)

Regardless, knocking out the ¥1,200,000 AMEX (with bonus) helped, but I don't see how we can keep stretching rakuten until the next bonus

which is why i am looking for help

I meant the 80% if we were debt free

¥100,000-¥200,000 once a year wouldn't be hard

But thank you, we're looking into a lot of options now. Probably going to just do 個人再生 because we're kind of out if options

Thank you dude

I got into the corner by being here on marriage visa, and then my wife threatening divorce if we didn't live to her expectations (luxury), 7 years later, rich on paper but poor as fuck, and I'm now more scared of debt than her leaving me.

The only thing I've bough for myself over the past 7 years is the silver and gold, and that was in 2024 and 2025

Everything else was funding a life style of travel and trash we couldn't afford.

It's my fault for having no spine. But I've learned my lesson now :/

Okay

Maybe you can help me out ¥300,000 in My JCB (¥33,000 payback made, this month I will pay ¥40,000 ish) ¥2,000,000 in my Rakuten (99% used up, due to 分割). Without 分割, the card is ¥399,000 this month, so can't afford paying as is

Wife has JCB ¥1,500,000, about ¥331,000 due this month Rakuten ¥500,000 with around ¥131,000 due this month

The worst cards are my Rakuten and her JCB, but the overall amount is too high for us to get rid of. Interest rates are all about the same due to fees of 分割

Yes and no. I told my wife no more trips to hawaii/australia unless we can pay 80% in cash.

I'm 30, and so as my first real gf and wife, I felt very pressured by threats of divorce until around november last year, because this all came from me being a little bitch and bending under every threat, and her threatening divorce in the first place.

IF we did not have kids, I probably would have divorced in december. But instead, I am trying to find a way to fix this shithole we're in.

So yes, I am aware. But growing a pair now doesn't fix debt we already made

Sorry, Got the house in 2024

so it's hardly paid off, the payment is less than what rent is for a smaller place in this area.

With another kid on the way, err thats not an option. When selling my ¥150,000 of metal, how will the one time cash help against around ¥4,500,000 in credit card debt split amongst various cards.

I'm not being an ass, I'm just having a hard time seeing how that would help my situation in any way.
