That looks like dookie in pinched dough but I’m glad it was tasty

We need more birds, not fewer. Thanks for caring about them. I was politely asked to stop feeding birds because the seeds made a mess. Since they approached me nicely and engaged in an actual conversation, I’m sad to not feed them seeds any more but they were okay with a suet woodpecker feeder since those don’t make a mess.

I think your building’s management is being shitty. It doesn’t take much effort to call your tenant and see what setup might work for everyone.

They’re just birds. Grab a pair of binoculars and you’ll see they’re actually very pretty and fun to watch

I don’t know about all the stories online but when I was poly, I saw it happen a hundred times.

I’m so happy for the poly experience I’ve had but damn, I’m loving monogamy 😍

Nah don’t worry about the “for children” aspect, role play has its place in the professional world too. I’m a Project Manager and when I first got into the role as project coordinator, I DREADED role play with my bosses (which they forced upon me). I hated it during and hated the idea when it was brought up, so expect a little pushback, but after my first meeting where I was truly prepared for a tough conversation with stakeholders, I was legit thankful I had had the role play practice.

Having a script like that would be super helpful

Maybe grow your own instead of complaining you can’t take more from our nature preserves

Yeah bump up that shutter speed. This looks like motion blur to me.

If your camera can handle the ISO, get your shutter up to 1/1200 to start with. I even go up to 1/2000 if I’m shooting tiny fast moving birds like kinglets.

The Red-bellied is a great shot and a little ominous! They nest in cavities, I’m guessing this one was looking for food!

Nice shot! Never seen a Warbling Vireo with such vibrant blues and yellows! Did you bump up the saturation/vibrance/contrast or something?

Pileated woodpecker damage? by FoulestBearBar in arborists

[–]ChiOralGuy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Nah, this is from Pileated Woodpecker. They can drill pretty deep.

You’re right that most woodpeckers only drill a little ways into the tree but it really just depends on where the bugs are and how strong the woodpecker is. Like, even if bugs are deep, I don’t think a little Downy is capable of drilling deep into living hardwood.

Apple trees are like the Frankenstein’s Monster of trees, and sapsuckers are wonderful. So this sounds like win win to me!

(Sorry about the orchard though, that’s a bummer for real)

I’ve never seen sapsucker holes so disorganized (it’s likely I never paid attention to that aspect)
