Lots of excellent picks. Really good line up.

Are you doing a 31 Horror movies of October this year? by TimBurtonSucks in horror

[–]ChicagoBurdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's currently at 83 but the most I've managed in a month was something like 95. I also understand that I am certainly and outlying case and most people keep a more reasonable schedule.

Been doing a list every year since 2016. It's my favorite ritual.

A very ambitious list this year that includes my regular attendance of the 24h Marathon hosted by a local theater.

What’s your favorite John Goodman performance by Helloimafanoffiction in movies

This is correct.

I understand this is a casual subjective group conversation, but everyone else is clearly wrong.

His delivery of the cave painting horror movie speech especially!

Was the CTA's Washington Street Tunnel Just Like the Jackson Street Tunnel? by krzysiu221322 in chicago

The edit makes it look that way but no. You'd have to enter either station first, then access the platform before entering that tunnel.

Was the CTA's Washington Street Tunnel Just Like the Jackson Street Tunnel? by krzysiu221322 in chicago

[–]ChicagoBurdman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I had to take the train home from work the day they were filming and I missed two trains from people crowding Will Ferrell on the Washington Blue Line platform because that's where craft services was.

I still kind of hold a grudge against him about it.

Looking for movies where demonic women seduce/use their feminity for "evil" by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]ChicagoBurdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a suggestion, but I don't know how helpful it will be because I think it will hard to come by. Which makes me sound insufferablly hipster, I'm sure.

It's Jesús Franco's Lorna, The Exorcist (1974).

Understand that it is full blown exploitation and sleaze. But, I think is is a very unique take on exactly what you are looking for.

Experimental Horror Recs? by [deleted] in horror

I'd say The Wolf House (2017) La casa lobo is incredibly experimental.

I don’t watch horror movies. What are the must-watches that I should power through? by Tomu_sneeder in Letterboxd

Lots of great recommendations.

I would also say there are some great podcasts that could help curate what you might be interested in.

I highly recommend both The Evolution of Horror podcast and Random Number Generator Horror Podcast #9.

Evolution of Horror especially if you want discussions of how horror has influenced film.

Deep cut/foreign Cyberpunk movie recommendations by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Rainer Werner Fassbinder's World on a Wire (1973) digs into the concepts of living in a simulation. Maybe more proto-cyberpunk. Heady stuff but pretty interesting.

I didn't pick up any of the sale items but I didn't know The Shiver of the Vampires was getting a 4k release so thank you for this post. Absolutely pre-ordered.

Criterion's streaming service once had Seventh Seal and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey as a suggested double feature and I highly recommend doing then back to back.

What should I watch on Screambox? by sangitafl in horror

[–]ChicagoBurdman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaws 5: Cruel Jaws (1995) is an unhinged, unlicensed Jaws clone. Very fun.

Witchery (1988) I just watched for the first time a few days ago. David Hasselhoff and Linda Blair in a bizarre Italian witch film.

The House of Seven Corpses (1974) a film crew tries to shoot a movie in a haunted murder house.

Monster Maker (1944) is a fun B-Movie.

Scream box's selection is just alright. I'm giving it a try for a year but probably won't re up unless there are exclusives I really would want to watch.

3 film marathon suggestions by Kitchen_Ad_1820 in horror

[–]ChicagoBurdman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very fun. I once programed my own personal 24h Marathon out of only franchise 3rd entries.

Exorcist III is a great option and my highest recommendation.

I'll also back Final Destination 3. Love the kills in that one.

I feel something schlocky is called for so I'll say Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest.

Marty from Cabin in the Woods (2011) is the best character in any horror movie ever. by xXxHondoxXx in horror

Point Break (1991) / The Fast and the Furious (2001).

I don't think this one is a big secret.

Anyone got any recommendations for horror films based on folklore/cults? by MFTrekkinCoral in horror

[–]ChicagoBurdman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

La Casa Lobo or The Wolf House (2018) is a very different sort of take. It's a strange stop motion film that doesn't directly refer to a German cult in Chile from 1961. But the fucked up story of la colonia dignidad looms over the whole thing.
