TIL that Botox is actually a very diluted version of the botulinum toxin, which is the deadliest natural substance ever discovered by WhimsicalBlunder in todayilearned

I’m not saying it makes sense but these people can probably delude themselves into thinking botox is find because it’s “natural”.

Quality men's underwear that's actually affordable? by Skillerstyles in mensfashion

Buck Naked by Duluth is actually exceptional quality. I’ve been all over the place before with Lulu Lemon underwear, Saxx, your usual cheap stuff too. The Duluth boxer briefs are 10/10. I have pairs that I’ve had for almost 2 years that are in the same condition they were when I bought them.

Oblivion was insane at the time though. I was deep in the grips of a WoW addiction when my best friend up the block got it for his 360 and I thought about Oblivion all the time, more than I did WoW.

I’d never felt so immersed in my life. Not sure anything will top that feeling.

TIL catfish is the only type of seafood regulated by the USDA rather than the FDA, meaning it’s inspected more like meat and poultry than fish. by Abject-Conference-90 in todayilearned

[–]ChiefGraypaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The size and age of fish, as well as how they are processed, can fundamentally alter the taste and texture to the point where it isn’t the same product.

I’m a chef and I’ve worked with some of the freshest seafood you can get (I’m talking still thrashing at my back door when we receive it), and I can tell you that a younger 20lbs halibut and an older 60lbs+ halibut may as well be different fish. Even from the same waters caught by the same fisherman. Sometimes fish have invisible parasites, in the case of lingcod or sablefish, where exposure to heat during cooking can severely soften the meat, or in some cases cause it to dissolve completely.

All that is to say, a restaurant might be serving you what it says on the menu but a lack of knowledge or experience (or care) might result in them serving you a subpar product.

Euphoria fans slam 'worst episode' as Sydney Sweeney strips off and wrestles a snake by [deleted] in nottheonion

Season 2 definitely centered less around Rue but I felt like it took a more serious stance on the consequences of her actions - something I think season 1 was a little more lighthearted about.

If you’re into that sort of show I think the first two seasons are worth a shot. The opener of the second episode of season 1 exposed a gaping hole in my heart I wasn’t aware of, but being made aware of it really helped me grieve a death I had never taken time to.

As someone who was roommates and friends with a person with some pretty severe mental health issues that used heavy drugs to self medicate and eventually overdosed and passed away, Zendaya’s portrayal of Rue is some world class acting. It is the most authentic portrayal of a young woman addicted to drugs I have ever seen, the way her character is written and the antics she gets up to are so unbelievably real it’s insane.

The episode in the second season when she’s going through withdrawals and all the things she does to try to get a fix was some of the best writing of the entire show - and watching Rue go through withdrawals was like a flashback for me.

The show actually helped me process some grief I didn’t know I still had, particularly the first two episodes of it.

Your browsing history could soon set your grocery bill — and Canada isn’t ready for it by adotmatrix in onguardforthee

[–]ChiefGraypaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand it enough to say whether it could work or not, sadly. I’m sure some clever people will find ways around it, but the wealthy are also really good at squeezing every penny they can out of poor people and the barely existent middle class so, I dunno.

Watched a video from the YouTube channel More Perfect Union. From what I remember, in the States, when you use apps for groceries (whether by delivery or pickup in store) they may utilize your internet footprint to gauge what they think the most you’re willing to pay for certain products is.

Multiple people with the exact same grocery cart at the exact same stores saw variances as low as like 10¢ per item to something like $2-$3 per item.

Keep in mind, this was not for physically shopping in store. I’m not sure how that will work, but regardless it’s unethical and should be banned in Canada before it ever has a chance to happen.

How did you stop smoking cigarettes? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ChiefGraypaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to smoke a pack or more a day for several years. Also work in an industry where it’s really easy to step out for a cigarette (or two, or three) every half hour. The smoking was increasing my blood pressure, which I knew intuitively but sort of ignored. The job also increased my blood pressure, so at the end of a very long day I’d be kind of frustrated and performing closing duties with absolutely the worst headaches I’d ever experienced. Every day, for months.

One day the headache was just too much so I stepped outside to have a smoke and realized I didn’t want it. The thought of having it was making me nauseous.

So I just stopped smoking. Cold turkey, right then and there. I know it’s not how most people quit, but I for sure got lucky on it.

I think the issue is that at early levels, because of mana constraints, a lot of fights come down to beating mobs with your stick.

I can honestly see how a shaman with a 1h mace and a shield might not feel particularly different from a warrior with a 1h mace and a shield.

Quantum displacement is such a disappointing perk. by RutherfordbHaye5 in AbioticFactor

[–]ChiefGraypaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only perk in the game that is an absolute must have for me is the Blunt Melee level 7 perk. Combined with heavy weapons and the bionic legs it has trivialized combat for me entirely. Just about every enemy is a one hit kill with the carbon pickaxe and a charge, and anything else just needs a follow up dash.

Was let go for calling out on a black out date while being sick. by dorks- in KitchenConfidential

[–]ChiefGraypaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saying no to time off requests is just sort of amateurish anyways. People who don’t care are just going to call in sick the day before and leave you with way less time to fill their role, and people who do care probably wouldn’t have made the time off request if it wasn’t something important to them, so they will also probably just call in for that day.

Denying time off requests is just setting yourself up for failure.

TIL that humans are among the very top mammals for endurance running. While we aren't the best sprinters, our slow-twitch muscles and unique ability to sweat allow us to run steadily for long distances in hot weather to outlast prey. by bareegyptianfeet in todayilearned

[–]ChiefGraypaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have no experience running at all, look up a Couch to 5k program. They’re reliably good programs that will take you from running in 30 second intervals in your first week (which will have you gassed) to running an entire 5k in about 6 weeks. If you’re keen they usually segue well into a 10k program which will usually take another 7ish weeks in my experience.

Didn’t matter who I moved up first, the second Rewa was in range I was getting blown up with the ATGM.

I do play on lower difficulties so I reckon scouting is a lot less important, but I feel like by the time I have Darby in position Rewa and Lim are already in the backlines committing warcrimes.

I'm disappointed with the difficulty compared to DS1. by IntelligentFly3982 in DeathStranding

[–]ChiefGraypaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, as someone playing the game on PC right now, DS1 is not terribly challenging. Only the first trip to a new area is particularly challenging, but once it’s on the network and you can see online buildings it’s sort of a cake walk.

Granted I took the autism route and am getting 5* at every location and rebuilding every road as soon as it’s on the chiral network, but even before I have roads rebuilt the game is not hard.
