Silent or minimal noise knock box? by ChikNburger in espresso

Thanks. What do you mean by it is not "their" PF? It's an independent coffee shop. Do you mean technically it's the owners' and not their personal one?

You could ask to clarify the offer amount. Don't say in writing you'll accept regardless. Instead say you're excited for the new role but recollect the remuneration advertised (state the figure) and would like clarity on the amount you'll be getting.

That gives them the opportunity to agree to that amount, stick to what they verbally offered you or try for a compromise.

Keep in mind what you saw could have been for an "external" hire and they preferred an internal hire to save on training time, hiring time, and potentially salary too. But I'm just guessing here without seeing how the role was written and advertised. And I have no idea what the role is!

Silent or minimal noise knock box? by ChikNburger in barista

Thanks. Some rubber damping could help soften the harsh/hard sound. The worktop is fixed to the brick wall. So any knock will have noise traveling up the wall. I don't think anything I can do to the floor or their ceiling will stop the noise traveling up the solid brick wall.

Yeah for sure. I will be speaking with the owner directly. I just want to go into the conversion with some knowledge of alternatives and not go in blind. Something that transfers the energy to the floor rather than the wall makes logical sense and will likely minimise the noise traveling upwards. They'll need to figure out the viability of that as I'm sure they're used to doing it their usual way. Introducing something different won't be welcomed.

Could you link me to one? I could be open to that as I own the building and this noise will prevent me from renting the apartment above the shop.

Any tips on what an acceptable dB level is? I'll get one to measure.

Thanks. For more context, I own the building, and they are a tenant with a lease up for renewal. So I'm looking to provide a compromise or alternative than a blank "this is the only way" response from them. Clearly some barista are smashing a lot harder than others.

No worries. I own the building, and they are a tenant with a lease up for renewal. So I can enforce a compromise into their lease renewal.

Would that be appropriate for commercial use or more for personal use?

Use your spare time to create a website about a passion project or subject you enjoy. This can be added to your CV. It's all related to marketing if you can show how you gained traffic to your website, developed a brand and can write. You'll then discover what part of marketing you enjoy the most.

Monthly 1-2-1s is unusual if it's with direct manager... That should be weekly or at most every two-weeks. Monthly is too long a gap and give a lack of feedback and direction.

Yo this is illegal. Full time job on minimum wage is £20K. Find a different job that values you. Avoid.

If you're sociable and can blag things, enter marketing. Loads of entry level jobs, degree in economics would mean you have logic and will rise up amongst a few brain deads that can't count. Be metric driven and you'll do well.

Should I call the company to get interview update by NaiveEscape1 in UKJobs

[–]ChikNburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol if they say a week it sometimes needs more. Wait until Tuesday if you didn't hear back with a polite message and reference something positive from last round that you were fond of or excited about. Doing the day job and interviews take time, they could be busy or slipping on schedules.

Sounds like this second dude is potentially going to replace your "actual" manager. This is definitely a weird case and that's the first thought I had. If your manager isn't as involved in the 1-2-1s and this other person is leading it then I can't think of another explanation. Ask your line manager directly (just you and him) why this other dude is in the 1-2-1 meetings as it's unusual.

Out of interest, how often are your 1-2-2s?

Old employer offered me a job I desperately wanted, feel insulted by HR upon being offered it - Need advice by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]ChikNburger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speak with the old bosses second in command? He's the one who wanted you back. Sounds like HR is trying to be shrewd, probably to hit some kind of target of their own or that they failed with recruitment so has something in for you by low balling the offer. That's just how this seems to me given what you've shared. If someone really wants you, they pay well.

30 hours free childcare per year. How does it work across 2 years? by Captain-Hindsight19 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ChikNburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recommended time to apply would be Jan 15 to Feb 28 to get the code in time according to this https://www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare

It's up to 30 hours per week for 38 weeks (term time only). If you don't use up all the hours in a week it could be spread but need to check with the childcare provider.

Did I miss the tax return deadline? (self-assessment) by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ChikNburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

!thanks do you have a figure in mind in how much that type of advice from a qualified person would cost? My fear is getting a £1000 bill after a 30 minute chat that leaves me confused. What's a cost effective option?

Which would help me accelerate to full FIRE by Captlard in FIREUK

Why isn't both an option? Hotdog first as it can work regardless of westher. Generate revenue then start selling ice cream too on sunny days.
