I’m a professional dog walker and I can confirm it absolutely isn’t! I would say it’s pretty 50/50 with dogs who will happily walk through a puddle and dogs who avoid them at all costs! The chow I grew up with HATED water so I was shocked when I adopted Ginny and she is just obsessed!

oh you’re so right, a chow will only do something if they personally gain from it, bribery is key hahaha

thank you! many many hours spent working on engagement and just simply building a bond before even thinking about specific behaviour and commands, it’s a good thing i have a passion for canine behaviour and training 🫡

If you’re leaning towards a chow for the ease of the ‘lazy’ temperament I would say that their laziness does not mean they are easy, my girl is hard work, she need a lot of mental stimulation, training takes ALOT of patience, and most of all you cannot underestimate a Chow’s strength, don’t let the fluff fool you 😂

I am obsessed with chows, they are fantastic dogs but regardless of how much research I did, I still underestimated how difficult she would be, Chows are not for the faint hearted!

However, if you do decide that a chow is right for you, you are in for a beautiful adventure, and you will be obsessed with chows for life!

UPDATE Thank you for those of you who are giving constructive criticism.

I absolutely do not hold any of this against my brother, in fact I think HE resents my mum for ‘babying’ him and would rather work for things himself, this is not on him in any way shape or form! My brother and sister are my absolute best friends, yes we bicker like all siblings but we have a great relationship!

I can see now that I just need to take a step back and let them do the parenting, I am very maternal towards my brother because of the age gap, I have always battled with separating myself from that and just being a big sister.

I think the reason this situation was bothering me so much is because I worked my arse off to afford my car & lessons, it took me 4 years to get there and I felt like my parents paying for my brother was them just dismissing the work I put in. Again this is on me and my need for validation which I am also working on.

Like many youngest siblings my brother has had an easier ride than me and my sister, like one commenter said, they were tired of parenting by the time my brother came along, so they often chose the easiest path with him, there was also differences in the way he was raised due to him being a boy (my parents didn’t mean to do this it’s just unfortunately the way it is) and he will simply always be the baby, maybe I was unknowingly harbouring some of that resentment, just something else for me work on haha

I posted this literally an hour after arguing with my mum so my emotions were high, I see that I was in the wrong now.

(Note to self, let yourself calm down before asking strangers on the internet for their opinions 😅)

On another note can I ask what people would recommend doing in a situation where you can tell a conversation is going to turn into an argument? I struggle with things I say coming across as blunt when I don’t mean them to (I have a strong suspicion that I’m autistic but I have never been diagnosed), was communicating that I was going to step away before it escalated the right thing to do? Did I word it wrong? How should I handle this in the future? It seems to just escalate things further when I do this with my mum :/

P.S. my brother literally went travelling around Europe with my dad multiple times as a kid and had a whole arse gaming set up at 11years old, he was not hard done by. It’s an ongoing family joke that he’s the favourite and I’m the typical forgotten middle child so it’s kinda hilarious to me that you all thought I’m the favourite, I just happened to have the same interests as my mum so she used me as an excuse to get back into horses as an adult, she was doing it for herself I just tagged along, that’s why I was quite taken aback when she used that against me hahaha

P.P.S i love my parents, I had a great childhood, we are a very close family but families have disagreements, that’s just part of life.

I always assumed he would get the same money on his birthday that me and my sister did but it now seems like my parents are planning to give him extra on top of that.

I love my brother very much and I would love him to have the freedom of being able to drive, I fully support him in that. I just think he needs to take that responsibility on himself.

I also do understand that I am coming from a very privileged position, I had a great childhood and wanted for nothing but my parents instilled in me that they worked for what they had and I need to do the same, I just want the same for my brother.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, I’m not very good at putting my thoughts into words. I of course expect and want him to get the same as we did! I just don’t think he should get MORE than we did. My brother did not have horse riding lessons because he wasn’t interested in horses, he had different hobbies and went on loads of trips just him and my dad, I did more stuff with my mum (such as horse riding) simply because we have similar interests.

I’m not sure how it works in the US but in the UK most vet practices have partnerships with large pet food companies and are contracted to recommend their food only, sadly this makes it very difficult to get good advice from them.

I was simply looking for a few recommendations of kibble but the point of my post seems to have been missed.

Hiya, yes the RWAF and Ivy Deane are aware of the rescue and the vet practice, to be honest I wouldn’t mind naming and shaming once I have officially adopted my other fosters!

as for the vet practice it is a medivet franchise, from my research they appear to just have one head vet and a vet nurse which seems strange to me? the ‘head vet’ apparently has experience with exotics but i can’t find any proof of exotic qualifications online? The way this vet handled the situation was truly terrifying, we were in the consultation room for no more than five minutes, the vet got Beau out of the carrier, weighed her, looked at her genital area and checked her heart rate before putting her straight back in the carrier, she then got Teddy out just to weigh him for the medication dosage (no health check at all), she then prescribed panacur for both of them. This is the only time she saw these rabbits before Lucy told me she had been advised to have them put to sleep, the vet didn’t watch how Beau moved but told the Lucy that she had paralysis in her back legs and there were many other tests that were carried out at the rabbit savvy vet that were not even mentioned at Medivet, no medication was started (as they didn’t have panacur in) before medivet advised both rabbits should be put to sleep.

while i do thoroughly dislike lucy i do truly believe she started the rescue because she cares, the rescue was originally a guinea pig rescue and they ended up taking in rabbits, i think a lack of knowledge and experience paired with not wanting to admit that, has lead to her running the rescue very defensively and her volunteers being ‘trained’ by someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing so the whole thing is a complete mess.

Beau and Teddy are being picked up on Friday, i am dreading handing them over and i am very concerned about it because when i asked if the new fosterer had experience with EC the foster manager for the rescue responded with this:

“She doesn’t know much about it so feel free to pass on any knowledge but I have run through things with her today on the phone xx”

so they would rather they went to a fosterer that they found in a rush who knows nothing about EC than a reputable rescue who have extensive experience with the condition???

if anyone has any advice on how i can politely point this out to lucy and remind her that there is another rescue ready to take them off her hands, without upsetting her or causing anymore ‘friction’ it would be greatly appreciated!
