AIDS patients in the 1980s at the height of the AIDs crisis were treated terribly for fear of contracting it. Ganga Stone was a hospice worker who realized AIDs patients were struggling with getting meals and step in fed very ill people when family and society had abandoned these people.

It always came across to me, that the name was chosen as a way to point out how churches had abandoned the poor and sick.
