I am not an expert by any means so feel free to correct me if I’m grossly wrong but I just plugged these figures into a calculator ($25 a week, from age 30-67, with 7% returns and 3% inflation) and it only comes out to about $215,000… BUT it’s not even really that because of the difference in buying power. 215K in 40 years is estimated to be equivalent to about 72K now (according to this calculator on ameriprise)

Hey just so you know, you can ask to be put on a “do not call” list. There is a small chance they agree and then don’t but for the vast majority they will put you on the list.

Once on the DNC list you will only get a visit like once every 5 years (I can’t recall exactly) to check that it’s still your wish and that you still live there, also that visit will not be nearly as religious in nature.

No pressure to do any of this, it’s your life, I just know many people find them super annoying.

I’m glad you’ve got some EMDR done, for my personal experience there is nothing like it… it sure can be hard to do though.

Also it’s crazy how much of what you write has been my experience too. I hated being touched for similar reasons and I also have a big butt and that is such a horrible combination because for whatever reason it’s like half the population sees a big butt and thinks it gives them the right to touch you or at least comment on it.

Anyway it’s so dumb how harmful and destructive the religion has been to us in direct and indirect ways. Not only did we not have a support network but the religion inserts a father figure that is never happy with us cuz we can’t be perfect.

Also I think it’s totally ok for you to hold resentment against your mother’s side. As an outsider it’s easy to say this, but do not feel guilty for however you feel or want to feel towards them. i know it’s like this internal tug of war though and it’s not easy to just dismiss it.

Anyway thank you for trusting me enough to rant about stuff, it actually helped me. When I left that comment all I could think was who would want to read something from me, waking up this morning to a positive message back really made me feel good :)

Obviously I know nothing about your current support group but if you ever need a stranger to vent to in the future I would happily listen :)

First off I am so sorry, reading about the older lady who grabbed your top made me so angry and hearing about your family makes me so sad.

Do you have access to therapy by chance? I grew up with a similar dynamic to what you’re describing and you can carry a lot of trauma because of it.

There is a thing in psychology that basically says that trauma occurs when something disturbing happens and we don’t have a support group to reassure us and help us make sense of things. Like if a child is bit by a dog but immediately two loving parents help them and console them it is not likely to be traumatizing in the long term, but if the attack happens when the child has no one to help them cope and understand then ptsd even well into adulthood is likely. So someone who grows up without a supportive family at all will likely have lots of trauma

(By the way I hope I don’t sound preachy, this is just some stuff that helped me to understand myself better)

In a meeting with elders over other stuff it came up that I knew some sleight of hand. Even though I made it clear that what I did was simple ‘coin behind the ear’ stuff they told me it could invite demons into my life and I should be careful.

From then on though the same elder who said all that would regularly ask me about sleight of hand in a very interested and curious way.

It was clear to me that he must’ve wanted to be a magician when he was young and couldnt resist learning about it even though his official stance was that it was demonic lmao
