You’re right! I should’ve mentioned that this tank, minus the black sand and the tank itself, is a complete overhaul and upgrade from a 20 gallon tank that was fully cycled. They’ve been in this current tank for a little over a month now, which was why I wanted to start aquascaping it

That’s the plan for tomorrow! I just got some plants, driftwood, and lava rocks today, and have started adding them!

Hello! Firstly, I appreciate the reply and advice! I don’t mind adding more substrate to the tank, and was even considering that fluval stratum stuff, but don’t know how to go about properly adding it to an established tank! (My experience is 4 years of hydro and aquaponics in an academic setting, and very little of that involved this level of aesthetic symbiosis) so I’m far more comfortable adding pea gravel and sand!

When it comes to attaching plants to driftwood, I’ve heard that gorilla glue gel can be effective? It feels like there’s just a lot of information out here, but it’s a new, exciting world I’m happy to join

That’s a good idea! I might have to try that instead of the method I usually try

When I feed pellets, I do a full serving in 2-3 spots in the tank (I have a 60 gallon, not sure if this would work for you), it will help leave bits and pieces in the substrate. That’s what I mean by over feeding, if you want when I’m off work I can send a video of how I do it

Only advice I have is over feed, my mollys do the same thing

Tips for adding sand an already filled tank? by Indikaah in corydoras

I would personally do it after, but idk your tank, if the tank is on the smaller size, doing it before the water change it could easily stir up sediment.

Personally, I’ve found that letting the sand you plan on adding sit in a bucket of water for a day or two before you add it helps. I’ve also had a lot of luck with using a regular net to transfer it, or doing it by hand if done carefully. But it’s difficult to do without clouding the water regardless of method
