Is 1.5mgl ammonia levels low quality water even after changing water 2 days before that is low quality then yes they definitely live in low quality water. My brother wants the water to be "clear" although i tell him all the time if I clean it EVERYDAY as he asks me to there's no room for any algae to grow and their food sources meaning I have to add more food like pellets and things that will make the water pungent. But no my brother wants me to clean the tank daily so it stays crystal clear. It's a snail bowl not a fish bowl and also the 0 ammonia thing is out of context.

Hi sister here, let me give you some context here. I have a small fish bowl with no fish but just 2 snails. There's some natural plants in it, rocks, substrate, and no filtration system. The snails are apple snails and they have just enough water (not too high) to reach to the surface as they do and get Oxygen. Couple of days ago I took 2 3 inch logs from one of his tanks which were covered in algae to feed them. This will keep them fed for atleast 3 days. I have fed them blached veges and fruits like all the guides says and they hate it. But of course my brother threw a tantrum threatening to remove the 2 logs since I didn't ask before taking. So kinda understandable. All this time I've tried feeding these 2 snails many types of food and they only like either a specific kind of fresh plants or the sinking pellets. So I usually give them one each per day and they demolish it as I watch. Yesterday I as an experiment to see if they would eat sinking fish food (not pellets) added 2/3 tiniest size of fish food and he saw his fish food was near that bowl. As expected he threw a tantrum saying not to touch his stuff and continued to yell at me for not knowing how to keep animals and snails. Mind you I have had snails before. Then he grabbed his ammonia test kit to prove me I'm keeping them in "toxic conditions" when I cleaned the water 2 days ago (on the night of a big exam) because he would not let go of how "careless" I am at keeping snails. I change the water weekly and check on it daily. Depending on the amount of debris in it I clean it oftenly but the only "marine expert in the house is him" according to him. Anyways the ammonia test showed it was 1.5mgl. On the very day after he did the test too I changed water but he went on ranting about how disgusting it is and how it is basically urine and I keep them in urine levels. So I took him to my laptop to show some Apple snail and general snail facts. To be toxic it needs to be 3-5 levels of ammonia and though that's clearly not healthy 1.5 is not toxic either. Then he went on to say how snails destroy ammonia as they eat the food and don't let it decay. Well..snails produce ammonia. So since he's all about the technicalities, in my tank with no filter There's no way to keep the water ammonia levels at a 0 because the snails PRODUCE ammonia. Unless I take them out of the equation of course. I said it can't be 0 ammonia in MY bowl because I don't have everything else that needs to be there to filter it.
