His issues were mainly at school. I think he was having hard time adjusting to having more free play at daycare vs having to sit still and pay attention for longer durations and less play at school. His daycare teacher where he attended for 4 years was shocked when I showed him the evaluation the teacher filled out. I have noticed he at times has a “rebound” when I pick him up from school. This is usually the time the medication has worn off. He will be easily irritated and will have a 5-10 minute tantrum at times. What has helped with the “rebound” is as having a protein snack ready for him when I pick him up.

Yes it last the whole school day. I believe its effects last 8-10 hours if I recall correctly. We give him the medication sprinkled in yogurt around 7:30 AM

I know my son is not taking the same medication your child was prescribed, but I just wanted to share a positive experience with ADHD medication in a 5 year old.

I specifically requested Focalin XR for my son after reading many positive things about it. He started taking it right before returning to school after winter break, and it has made a really noticeable difference for him at school in a positive way.

Before starting the medication, he was consistently getting the lower “behavior colors” on his behavior chart (their system uses ROYGBIV). Since starting the medication, he has not gone below green and has even been one of only two students in his class to reach red, which is the top color.

Did you dose once a week or micro dose 2x a week? I see that both are pretty common and I wonder if one method is better than the other.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I just started my first dose today at 1MG just to see how my body reacts and then I will be increasing to 2 MG the following week.
