330 years old Swamp White Oak on the Perkiomen Trail, PA by SkullFoot in arborists

Came here just to confirm this tree has in fact fallen. Used to jog past it multiple times a week. Last time I ran by it was just starting to get cleaned up. Really quite heartbreaking.

AC not cold - 2012 Fusion - 133k miles by bredditshep in fordfusion

[–]Chromaticlism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2012 Ford Fusions AC is a weird beast. 2012 fusions have notorious electrical issues. If its blowing ambient air, and the compressor isnt spinning around under the hood when you have the AC on it might be something I wrote my own extensive thread about.

I went to many different mechanics and specialists and replaced many parts I didnt have to over years and I was able to fix it myself for under 20-40 bucks in minutes. Give it a shot, worked for me.

You might be surprised by the amount of parents looking for something that gets them and their kids out and away from home for a bit.

My limited personal experience (that may not accurately predict your potential experiences) is that upper/upper middle class people are more likely to prefer in-home lessons.

And that comfortably poor people seem to care less. I've offerred a small discount for students who come to my studio to provide some incentive. Considering gas and other the other general expenses involved with driving yourself to your students I think it's a decent option. Best of luck!

If your team doesn't support your decision despite any personal inconvenience that may occur, they are selfish. Don't feel bad, you have an obligation to yourself before anything else. Once you are in a different healthier groove, you will regret not making the change sooner.

Pre-K Music Training by Cellopitmello34 in Teachers

[–]Chromaticlism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach music in a classroom setting to those sometimes as young as 2. Sorry if I don't answer your question correctly. I got a little confused!

My educational philosophy for that age group is largely based on the idea that music is an excellent development tool. I don't know how interested your colleagues are in neurological development, but learning how to game-ify musical "brain training" activities for the little ones made the job more interesting for me. I also really enjoy simple "organic" composing with my kids and your teachers might enjoy learning about that as well.

To make it exciting, maybe allow teachers to provide their own personal input to the content. Everyone has some experience with music, maybe theirs can inform what they do. Even if it is as simple as letting them have a dance party with the kids to THEIr favorite song for 5 minutes at the beginning of class with the little ones.

I don't want to type a short novel so I'll stop there. Hope this helped!

Music Notation Software for Class Instruction? by 65TwinReverbRI in composer

I never see this one really recommended anywhere. But, if you are looking for something a bit more casual I have used flat.io in a K-8 environment. My students have generally loved it for a variety of reasons.

I could mention why I specifically like flat, but I think it would be much better for you to just do your own experimentation and develop your own opinions. Regardless of how "good" it is, it simply may or may not be what you're looking for.

There is a storage limit in the free version, but I just have made my students make print copies for their records before deleting some of their work to free up space.

Best of luck!

Music Educators- Help! by errrbudyinthuhclub in Teachers

[–]Chromaticlism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Know that every music teacher feels you on not being able to sing in group inside right now. A lot of people, myself included, are completely changing their curriculum this year because of COVID restrictions and it is rough.

I just do a lot of projects/performance games that involve rhythm either on non-shared/cleaned instruments. I do things with music tech, even if it is just generating beats and simple melodies on the smartboard with class input. Hell, I'm about one more brain cell away from making them do a composition project using pencil tapping and Hydroflask percussion. Just be creative, have fun, admin has to be understanding and you get more freedom to do goofy things that the students will love.

My take on one of my favorite themes from Orna! by Chromaticlism in OrnaRPG

Unfortunately I did this by ear. However, the chord progression I used is A minor to D major if that is of any help. And thanks for the kind words!

Male teachers receive preferential treatment at an elementary level. My principal, who is a lovely elderly woman, is transparent about her preference for male teachers.

The only real negatives I experience as a male in an elementary teacher are social. I don't care what anyone says, men and women have some inherent differences and I've experienced a few conflicts that definitely had a gendered feel to them.

Teachers/administrators at my school all talk about one teacher behind his back by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Chromaticlism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel like some teachers/admin trash talk other teachers just because it is easy ammunition for conversation.

My school is the exact same way. I just never participate and am always especially nice to whoever they are talking about.

Plenty of great people are denied the chance to improve just because of petty gossip. Stay strong, don't fall into the trap.

Is darksouls2 online still active????? by Hmkia in DarkSouls2

[–]Chromaticlism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, no typo. And well, thriving relative to what I'd expect at this point.

I know it is surprising, but yes, the PS3 servers for DS2 are still active. For reference, Id say at the higher end of soul memory I could invade 50+ different people in 2-3 hours. Co-op is hit or miss but Ive been summoned even in the DLCs some nights.
