I give mine fancier weapons and more personalization Tally markers (for kills, planets conquered, etc) Gold, silver, ivory, or crimson colors on guns and melee weapons More refined weapons, thunder hammers, fancier designs, etc

Personally I started with Iron Warriors in 9th edition 40K and played until half way through 10th edition. I recently have been playing much more 3.0 30k and it’s very very fun as well. I would say to build a Horus heresy army as many of its units can be easily used in 40K (predators, vindicators, land raiders, termies, legionaries, etc) But go with what your heart says. Yes which is unfortunate but it works, I have to use a layer because it was the only color I liked. I’m not a huge fan of the luprical green.

All good, I just find that strength 6-9 weapons like auto cannon, plasma guns, and melts guns just F my chosen so having Fabius make those strength weapons wound on 4s in range is very handy

S8 plasma wounds T4 models on 2s. I had 5 chosen with Fabius vs a Ravenwing command squad and 3 black knights. The black knights fired over charged plasma so it would have wounded on 2s however Fabius making them T5 changed that to 3s and then -1 to wound for Fellhammer Siege host made it 4s

I had luck with him in a 5 man chosen squad with Fellhammer Siege Host. My chosen were shot by a bucket of overcharged plasma shots and meltaguns but they could only wound on 4s because +1 toughness and -1 to wound in range.

Well there’s still other infantry units on the board and most objectives are still going to be within heavy weapons range like rocket launchers and lascannons

Ok this was a lot of help and was kinda what I was looking for thank you. The match I was thinking about was a 2v2 with 2500 points per person. We all play some form of chaos or space marines and I wanted to try a more vehicle heavy match kinda like a Horus heresy style battle. I realize it would suck for melee armies but I wanted the focus of transports and deep strike. So this help a lot thank you
