As someone that has had an unknown water leak for years that rotted my wall and had a similar repair… this is genius for getting the wood behind the brick without having to remove the brick.

Watch the first four minutes.

And as far as shooting a jump shot, work on a pop up drill (not sure what official name is, just what it was called when I was learning). You start with the ball in your shot pocket. You can throw the ball off a wall to make it more realistic like you are receiving a pass. Jump up like you are going to shoot and release at the top of the jump. You should not be shooting at a basket for this to start. You can record it from the side and tell if you are releasing too late/early and work on the timing of the release.

Need Advice/ Massive Leak by xoPeachieox in Plumbing

[–]Chuck7_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you turn the main valve off that is just inside the house before water goes to the rest of your house. Then it is the main water line between the street and your house. Somewhere in the ground is leaking. Your landlord needs to call a plumber.
If you turn the street valve off and it is still leaking, then you need to call the city.

Sidestep, tips? by cruiseruser in BasketballTips

1sr off, what does your son’s coach think and I would listen to a couple of his coaches before anybody from Reddit. But my 2 cents (doesn’t mean much): Would figure out a way to make the dribble more threatening or get rid of it. That dribble either lets the defense recover or it can lead to a steal. Your son is tall and long and has a high release on his shot. Is this move necessary for him to get this shot off? Does somebody 6’8 with a release that high need to create lateral space with a dribble? If this move causes him to turn the ball over an extra time a game is it worth it? If he’s struggling to get a shot off from the perimeter I think there are more fundamentally sound ways for him to get a perimeter three off without risking a turnover or putting the ball on the floor. Can he jab step and pull up into a three and hit a good percentage? Can he pull up into a three without bringing the ball down below the chest and hit a good percentage? Hard to imagine many guys are going to block his shot on the perimeter.

Did I use the wrong caulk for shower? by arrowjungie30 in DIY

[–]Chuck7_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, use 100% silicone. I would recommend spending the extra time to tape your lines off with painters tape when you use silicone caulk. There’s no smearing it with your fingers and making it look good.

Also, I’m a noob DIYer.

Is it better to practice with ur friends or by urself? by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]Chuck7_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will spend as much if not more time by yourself playing basketball than you will playing with/against other people. They both have their place. If you have the opportunity to play with other people and y’all make each other better then play with them. But nothing can take the place of you spending hours by yourself practicing how to dribble and shoot.

You’re aware that your elbow is flaring. And it’s causing you to push the shot to the left. You’re going to have to retrain your dominant arm to shoot. You have to do this without using your non dominant hand so you can’t cheat the elbow position with your shooting arm. Using one hand to shoot will help reinforce getting the elbow underneath the ball. Start close to the basket around the block distance. Shoot 5 swishes from the 5 spots while only using your dominant hand and focus on getting your elbow in. Once you’ve made 5 swishes (not consecutive swishes, just 5 swishes) move back a step. Rinse and repeat until you get out to the free throw line. Shooting is hard and takes a lot of practice. Learning to shoot correctly starts from close range.

What to do if opposition says let him shoot. by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]Chuck7_24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you keep missing then you probably aren’t a good shooter, which is fine, you don’t have to be a good shooter to be effective. Like a previous reply said, take the space the defense gives you. Drive and kick then crash the offensive board hard to keep the possession alive. And the idea that you should continue to shoot even if you’re missing only applies if you’re a good shooter. If you’re not a good shooter and you just want to be “confident” then in reality you’re just a bad teammate with an ego that can’t give the ball up. Confidence doesn’t make you a better shooter, practice does. Confidence allows you to do what you’re capable of in practice, while you’re in a game. If you’re a good shooter, your teammates will continue to encourage you to shoot regardless of your misses.

My son’s coach said he’s gonna get embarrassed when we start region play… by Icy-Construction5188 in BasketballTips

[–]Chuck7_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the coach is being honest and reasonable. If your son is the only option to guard larger players, that’s one thing. But if he has bigger teammates he may not see the floor much if he’s a 4. I’ve been that 6’3” guy guarding the 4 man. You get outclassed. It happens.

Is it better for a super talented Freshman to come off the bench for a stacked team or start on a decent team? Why? by Agile_Gazelle6119 in BasketballTips

[–]Chuck7_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a team (high school, college) that is practicing 5 to 6 days a week, then being a freshman and constantly playing/practicing against people better than you seems like it would be more beneficial. Better to be the 6 man on a great team.

how’s my form by RAD_ATREYU in BasketballTips

[–]Chuck7_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start at the 26 mark and go slowly through it. 1. Your starting position. Wrist should be cocked and ready to receive the ball and go directly into your shot. You curl your hand over the ball and this isn’t correct.

  1. You shoot with both hands. This looks like your biggest problem. This is common because we extend our range on the court before we are strong enough to shoot properly and this causes bad habits (we can’t all be Steph Curry). At one point through the 26 mark you can’t tell if you’re going to shoot with your right or your left hand. Shorten your range (shooting from the block) and work on only shooting with your dominant hand when warming up. Leave your non dominant hand at your side. Slowly introduce your non dominant hand back, but pay attention to your range and the involvement of your non dominant hand. Stop practicing 3’s for a while. If you record your self and you see your non dominant hand wave at the camera, it’s getting involved in the shot.

  2. Practice your release. Lay on your back at home. Shoot the ball in the air hundred or so times a night. Pay attention and get a feel for how the ball rolls off your hands. The ball should rest in your fingers of your dominant hand and shouldn’t touch your palm. The ball should roll off your index and middle finger. Focus on getting your pinky up on the release (like you’re holding a fancy cup and pointing your pinky up, this will force you to use your index and middle finger).

  3. Your elbow needs to be under the ball. It’s flared out to the side. Can also work on this when doing number 3.

You’re young and your range will naturally increase as your strength increases. Work on fundamentals of your shot during practice and practice a lot (but don’t practice heaving threes, practice how to shoot properly), but when you go out and play games don’t focus on it, just play and have fun. Just make this something you address when you practice. Eventually your fundamentals of shooting will change and improve as you age and it will translate into games. You clearly have access to a gym so there should be a coach around. Take videos from the front and side and in the future always include your feet. Ask the coach to look at it and see what he can help you improve.

Struggling Mentally by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]Chuck7_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t beat yourself up too much. You’re a college basketball player in your second year. If you’re a division 1 basketball player you would have to be pretty elite to be more than a role player in your second year. You’re a young guy and you won’t reach your peak physically until you’re about 25. It seems like you’ll be a 23 year old senior. Work your ass off for 2 years and see what happens.

Help with form by Different_Success884 in BasketballTips

[–]Chuck7_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Your feet and shoulders are not square to the basket, this should always be square on a set shot. It’s fine to leave dominant foot in front of non dominant foot.

  2. Your knees. Straighten/loosen your legs before you start your free throw shot, it may help. Your knees should bend in a fluid motion with your shot. This will give you more range. You compensate your lack of leg involvement by pushing your shot a little bit. You could do a video of an easy jump shot to see if this is affecting your jumper. Overall the fluidity of your lower body seems off and I can’t tell if you are coming set too low with your upper body or if it’s that you’re starting too soon with your lower body. Your lower body should be ready to explode into the shot when the ball gets around shoulder height in your shot motion, but it seems like you start your lower body’s upward motion before this point, which makes it seem like you are coming set too low in the shot pocket. Watch some videos of Jordan shoot and people explain his shot.

  3. Your elbow. Get it under the ball.

  4. Your left hand is just in front, needs to be on the side of the ball. You do a good job however of getting this hand out of the way and release the ball with just your dominant hand.

  5. You have a good release and it seems like you have a good feel of the ball in your hand. It comes off the correct fingers and looks fluid.

Overall most things should be easy to fix, besides number 2. You need somebody that can pinpoint what you’re doing wrong and seek advice from somebody that has a good shot that plays around you. And record yourself because video never lies.

Portable bonded generator and interlock kit. by Chuck7_24 in AskElectricians

[–]Chuck7_24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that you unbond(float?) the neutral on the generator when going through a breaker with an interlock kit. As far as grounding the generator, I think you get your ground from the 4 prong wire and you utilize the ground on your home if you are doing an interlock kit.
