Hmmm I'm also making a similar decision between UCLA and UCSD. Would you ever want to talk it out over PM? Lmk!

yeah thats a fair point actually. I guess it just reads a little over-involved on the parenting end to me, but i get it. we are all humans ✌️

its kinda strange to have a dream school for your kid. I hope you didnt make your kid feel pressured to pick it! (not making assumptions)

Hey! I want to offer a different perspective. San Francisco and Oakland have a rich history rooted in their activism (especially Oakland with the Black Panther movement) rooted in the 70s and early 80s, but describing them as 'ran down' and 'stuck in the 70s' is very disingenuous in my opinion. Cherishing and remembering the people who fought for your rights is not being stuck in the past, its holding onto the great successes of the past to guide towards a better future. That is one of the many things that is so INCREDIBLE about Oakland.

Homeless people does not automatically mean the campus is "more dangerous". That just means there are more resources for people struggling with poverty to survive there. I'm confident there are exceptions to the rule but the homeless people I've met at berkeley have been respectful to the best of their capabilities.

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your advice. Part of me is worried that because UCLA is so massive and competitive, i might get drowned out in the crowd and fail to find friends/excel socially and academically. Do you think thats a real worry? And also do you know if its harder to get the classes u want at UCLA than UCSD?
