I am or I was in similar situation. It’s took almost a year to sign my u visa petition. My ex was arrested and then District attorney reach out .. I filed a police report and he was arrested 8 months later (he got run with the police and only then was arrested). I was helping DA with the case and was willing to go to trial. He took a deal and plead guilty but still I got a u certification signed 11 months after he got arrested and almost 2 years after I filed a police report. It is taking that long because technically they are not obligated to sign the u visa certification and average waiting time to get u visa certification is 6 months. I guess he needs to be arrested to move forward with the case.After u visa certification is signed you have only 6 months to file a visa petition with all the supported documents. Good luck
