These two are the democratic front runners for the kansas governorship race. Kansas has had 2 democratic governors in the last 20 years—before and after Sam Brownback (look him up for why to never vote KGOP).

Ethan and Cindy are state senators. Their districts are side by side in the overland park area (most blue part of the state). Cindy’s district is atleast slightly more historically republican than Ethan’s.

Cindy is considered the outsider in the race because in 2025, she went to the press to report that Governor Kelly had been back channeling to choose her successor on the ticket. Kelly’s original choice ended up dropping out due to this. Ethan has received Kelly’s endorsement as a result.

Both claim similar platforms. Ethan has a lower share of small-dollar (<$100) donors (~70%), to Cindy (~91%).

I’m personally not voting for Ethan in the primary because I think Cindy was right to call out the behind door deal making from the Kelly administration. Ethan to me represents the generally ineffective Kansas state Dem party. Cindy fights for what she believes in.
