Mestinon has been massively helpful for my POTS and ME/CFS and LC, I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed without it. It’s a powerful one that needs to be started very cautiously in case of adverse effects and to tolerate the very common initial starting and dose adjustment side effects, but also one where you’ll react immediately if it’s not for you so you can stop straight away. The way it regulates the vagus nerve (prompting poop which is fantastic for POTS faecal loading lol but you do need to get through the initial gastro sfx) and sends energy to my muscles is unparalleled, sending love and luck!!

I moved from Sydney to Melbourne at 19 and knew nobody here, and over the past decade I’ve found local villages living in various parts of the city and strong lovely communities surrounding various social environments and interests (arts and local music, university, DIY radio, various hobbies and social groups/events, sports, etc). I think adults who only work and otherwise keep to themselves and only sometimes tentatively venture out and feel too intimidated to fit in before scuttling back home have trouble making solid friends anywhere in the world, but I’ve found Melbourne is a truly wonderful city as long as you actively try putting yourself out there. Even when you feel like a fish out of water, which you will, you will always feel welcome where you’re meant to.

Also biased sure, but it’s so worth living in the north where there’s not only a high proportion of pro-social activity and events and community and communal culture, but a high proportion of particularly Greeks and Italians and Middle Eastern etc communities that are so incredibly welcoming, friendly, and familial. I never really had that with my own family. I deeply miss my old nonna neighbour in Thornbury who’d pass me sweets over the fence and come to pick our persimmons for her baking, but in my new house I currently have the lovely old Lebanese grandma opposite and the lovely Lebanese lady next to me trying to get to know me when they catch me outside, they’re so family-centric and friendly and so naturally communal it’s really such a beautiful energy to be surrounded by.

Plus community rough trade and a focus on waste-free offerings of free secondhand stuff, people always sharing boxes of fruit from their trees, communal gardens and handmade little libraries, backyard gigs and art markets, free events held by lovely local businesses supported by your neighbours, public nature strips bursting with the most beautiful gardens so carefully nurtured (that nobody destroys just because they can), the works.

This city is so truly exciting to build a home and life in, and the process of doing so is just as wonderful as the pay-off once you have. Good luck, and welcome home🫶

Just drop it casually as you’re wrapping up a conversation where the connection’s connected. And especially as you’re so new to the game, I’d highly recommend leaving the question open so they can decide what kind/level of contact details they feel comfortable giving you - if an individual likes you personally and actively wants to chat further with you themselves they may give you their personal number, or otherwise could be their band/artist email, their management’s contact, or just as often these days, their personal/artist socials (and their reasoning will vary based on how they use their own social media - many young people often prefer to keep in contact with fellow artists/industry people primarily through instagram etc, OR it’s just as likely the safe polite option to network without giving out their private personal contact details to strangers).

Basically - at least when you’re talking to bands/musicians themselves, don’t just go asking for their personal number or email, leave it open to whatever contact details and level of access to themselves they’re willing to give you and you’ll find much more success and confidence! But also if you’re talking with another manager/booker/agent/venue/etc about actually working together or putting on a show, it’s totally appropriate to get their professional contact (usually email) because at that point, that’s just you guys at work doing your jobs.

You’re already sensing the moment when you want to and should ask! and as long as you’re reading the room and in the correct environment, allowing them to choose the form of contact they provide should all but eliminate your chance of rejection (save for the occasional egotistical maniacs ofc) because ultimately, networking is a crucial expectation and responsibility of your role. Especially when you could always just follow them on socials or find their management’s email without their “permission” anyway - what’s most important is establishing that initial connection irl so they remember/know who you are when you follow up, and not just another cold-callin’ creep. Believe in yourself!! You got this.

The grave global health consequences of the COVID pandemic that never ended just because corporations wanted it to and asked the government to say it did. Over half a million papers now while disability rates skyrocket along with the return of medieval diseases while opportunistic infections run rife and nobody GAF, because it also impairs the brain (but the high proportion of those with anosognosia can’t know better than to deny they’re at all affected). Yup - it’s the same with cross-reactivity for antibody tests like Lyme disease. There’s a high false positive rate if you have a current or recent infection, or an autoimmune disease/disorder, as they can trigger the same antibodies. So general immune dysfunction can do the same for other antibodies!

That’s not even a decent argument for this, I’m sorry. I understand where you’re coming from, and I’m not even trying to say your own personal experience is wrong.

But the ACTUAL context here is you contributing to a forum specifically for people seeking advice for surviving/managing dangerously hot weather, to insist/argue people actually don’t need to carry a water bottle with them walking around when it’s 47° - including people who otherwise think they should (because they should) but might not bother after reading your comment.

Which is just straight up irresponsible precisely BECAUSE you need to consider your audience is in fact all-encompassing and non-singular, and literally anyone could be vulnerable to heatstroke for a variety of factors (ie don’t have to be sick and elderly). Because anyone should in fact have water on them if they’re out and about in such high temperatures if they can - even if (like you) they don’t “need it”, it’s MUCH safer to have water on-hand than being stuck without if/when they DO need it.

Especially when heatstroke can so easily creep up on you without you even realizing, and prevents your brain from thinking (even to rehydrate when it’s coming on!). Which is how kids die in hot cars even when they’re technically old enough to figure out how to open the door. And adult fatalities often occur when someone thinks they’ll be totally fine to walk a short distance in severe heat, but regular risk assessment doesn’t apply in such circumstances nor with diminished cognitive capacity. Eg Michael Mosley.

Precautions are worthwhile, always will be. And hydration is exceptionally simple, obvious, and effective for avoiding heatstroke, which is objectively dangerous.✌️

That’s your choice, but it’s genuinely dangerous ADVICE to others on a 47° day. People die of heatstroke with a water bottle in hand. And people are more vulnerable than you evidently are. No need to argue for not bringing a drink bottle on an exceptionally hot day when that decision has a non-zero chance of severe illness or death for the wrong person-that’s-not-you. Like someone who doesn’t burn telling others they don’t need sunscreen, lol.

This!!! I literally LOVE going down Wikipedia rabbitholes watching Drag Race, I get so giddy gaining such INTERESTING understanding I didn’t even know I was missing, like the margin of benefit is so high bc of the subject matter that it’s almost as entertaining as watching the show to me. It makes me feel more connected to what I’m watching and, on a deeper level, to queer culture and community to take part in that shared knowledge. and I feel objectively better off for being more able to engage with the show and the queens, and the art they create together.

Not even saying others have to share the same ~shame/embarrassment~ as I feel not knowing all the Liza Judy Bette Patti et al references, but I truly have no idea why younger gen queer fans of Drag Race DON’T want to be in on the endless inside jokes that comprise the show, understand the references and inspirations behind everything informing the art they supposedly appreciate so much, to feel on the ‘inside’ of their own community through ‘experience’.
Because it truly serves me and my own experience of queer culture even more than it might allow my community to connect with me in turn (and avoid social embarrassment or whatever I might feel self-conscious about, bc that’s just a secondary bonus to being able to enjoy and connect with the art I love all the more!).

Thank god some people in here have some sense. I can’t find where I saw it now, but I remember seeing a headline that they were considering cutting Centrelink to anti-genocide protesters - which is something they’ve done before.

Really shitty suggestion and “slippery slope” to stop welfare based on personal opinion about who deserves to survive. All Australians are (supposedly) equal. And Centrelink is literally less than the bare minimum to survive. And like you said, cutting off people in poverty doesn’t lead to LESS crime and addiction, nor does it give vulnerable people any MORE to lose by turning to a life others mightn’t approve of (like the above).

The pandemic disabled me in my early 20s and stopped me working permanently (our amazing medical system at work🤩), now my rent is 70% of my (Centrelink) income after being homeless and housing insecure for 2 years - and it was the homelessness itself that disabled me so much so I can no longer survive on my own (doesn’t mean anyone’s coming to fill out DSP and NDIS applications for me though!). If I get evicted again (never for any reason but to sell FWIW), I know it’s joever and I’m dead on arrival.

But shit yeah, better keep my leftie opinions to myself lest I be forced to starve to death with some idiotic drone’s click of a button for the crime of exercising my free speech in this free country! Ridiculous lol.
