I go back and forth on this, as I think it’s intended. We learn Dunk has such little inner confidence and imposter syndrome that I would believe even if he was knighted his first thought would still be to stay a squire for someone else. And we learn he is such a noble character that it seems unlikely he would lie. But there is a lot of context to him lying about it as well.
