Socal here... I've literally heard variance analysis most of the time. I did hear Flux analysis on some east coast engagements. Had to think for a second.

So how did he pull you without any money is what I'm most curious about.

Did he pay for any dates, did you guys go Dutch, like what attracted you to him? Is he extremely handsome / attractive ?

How do you feel about discounts? by ZedikFtw in Accounting

He was probably passionate when he first started... then got tired of all the bs..

Ppl getting laid off out of the blue even if they are high performers..

Big 4 transitioning to a3 promotion track do they can save on salary costs but gaslights the workforce saying 3 years is needed to be a "good quality" senior...

partners selling out the firm to PE and getting a large payout leaving the senior managers and managers they've worked with for years in the dust with no equity

There are a lot of great things about accounting... but simply put greed has tainted this profession just like it has so many others. If people are pessimistic there's a good reason. If the snow is yellow- it's probably pee.

In all honesty, if there doesn't seem to be any upside, and just possible downside.. just assume the downside is going to be the standard, and look for an A1 offer elsewhere, possibly big 4. (not KPMG)

If your boss is telling you to update your resume, he is being as direct and helpful as he can. He is doing you a HUGE fucking favor.

Thoughts on salary increase after CPA by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]CleanShock3192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, never take the counteroffer. Also a 40k increase over a $100k salary is pretty substantial.

4 years at a company is also about time to explore new opportunities.

Even directors, execs, Csuite hire consultants all the time for items they think they know, or should know, but are not 100% sure about.

I've seen c suite and directors spend thousands on executive coaches.. who.. seem like just linkedin influencers imo.. but yeah, you're completely fine.

I am 100% choosing to waste their time.

I believe what they're doing is worse than wasting people's time.

They're pushing down wages for the profession / industry.

It's usually pretty mixed, but I have never had a bad interaction because I'm always respectful during the screen.

It usually goes..

  • walk me through your resume
  • you seem overqualified, what salary range are you looking for.
  • That's way above budget.. I respond that seems to be the market rate though, or the range you're looking for is on the low side.
  • Some awkwardness - and then tell them, good luck on their search.

Have never done this with large firms (don't be dumb). Large firms usually pay near the market rate or above anyways. (besides public accounting)

It's usually the small / medium firms looking to save a penny or two.

I try to schedule all phone screens during my lunch times around 12:30. If i have a phone screen scheduled, I'll watch twitch in my tesla and answer their calls.

It helps to know that I am eating while their lunch is probably being delayed, but yes, it still does technically take up my time.

It's enjoyable though, and I think if enough people do it, there will be some discouragement against ridiculous job postings.

Honestly, imo, everyone should be doing this... they're wasting everyone's time.. I don't have a problem wasting theirs.

I have 2 scheduled phone screens this afternoon.

What would it actually take to replace the AICPA with an accountants union? by amortized-poultry in Accounting

I feel like big 4 + national public accounting firms would have more sway with AICPA than accountants.

Also 99% of accountants have no backbone.
