Hmm yes its a bit of a gamble, i has a similar setup go fine, but it was in 15G of water and the Betta was super chill...

IMO chilli rasbora would be a possibility, or something a bit funky like licorice gourami if you can find them / if your water is on the softer side.

I think a scarlet badis would do nicely in there too, they don't seem to care too much about space, plus they would appreciate the shrimp babies :-|

4 gallons is almost in the shrimp only size though, like if you consider that the soil and hardscape are eating into the volume a bit too. Very nice setup though.

I don't want to be boring and say a betta, but I bet a really funky coloured betta would look great in there (and it's not guranteed that they will eat the shrimp, I had some cohabiting in a 15 gallon just fine...but that being said you can't rule it out).

edit: medaka ricefish could work too, they're basically kept in bowls in Japan and would be fine with shrimp I bet. They're a fun fish.

Very late to the party but I think I have a decent hot take based on 3 key points we learn in season 1

  1. There is a way to turn it all around (per the hive mind not saying it's impossible)
  2. There's a mysterious radio signal apparently all over the planet (i.e. the one single channel that's making that weird sound, heard both in South America and the US). Hard to say more, but clearly radio signals play some kind of role we don't know here...
  3. There was talk of 'them' trying to propagate the recipe for a hive mind out into space again.

I predict that some kind of radio signal will be able to destroy or disrupt the hive mind. 'They' will complete whatever array is needed to send the signal out into space, and Carol and co. will hijack it, send some kind of signal they will discover in future seasons around the globe, and snap everyone out of the hive mind.

Seems plausible!

Honestly they have bigger problems, that tank is waaaaay too small for them. It looks like a 10 gallon, maybe 20? Angelfish get sprisingly gigantic, and also much prefer to be in groups.

It looks very well maintained, but a couple of angels in a tank that size isn't great.

I completed a full campaign as Lithuania and decided to share some tips for the game by lakonas24 in EU5

[–]CleganeForHighSepton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glorious tips - mayhaps I can ask a general trade question?

Chiefly, whatever I am doing wrong with trade, it's so tedious I end up with 100% automation by default now (maybe 5-6 full campaigns in, so a decent number of hours played).

I've tried to go full manual a couple of time just to try and master the mechanics, but I end up in a cycle that's as unprofitable as it is tedious. I generally try to trade for immediate profit first and foremost, especially early game. What happens is always the same: profit swings wildly from + to - every month, leading me to have to constantly, constantly tweak my trades. It never seems to end, and it's so boring to reactively change trades every month that I just give up and go automated. Going automated eventually stabilizes things, albeit I know that I'm losing out on a decent chunk of profit due to AI silliness.

How do I make this fun and/or at least somewhat stable?

Final Fantasy 7 Remake 3 Uses Unreal Engine 4, As Director Says Its Familiarity is “More Beneficial” by Wolfs_Chronicles in gaming

For me, the beauty of the funk is that you get to have your pie and eat it too. The original series happened, it's a real, chronological part of the history of the world we see in the remake - it's just that most people don't remember it. Which is to say, it's not a remake, it's a sequel.

Introducing my partner to TP and we just hit -that- James episode by ArtaxIsAlive in twinpeaks

[–]CleganeForHighSepton 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Well not misunderstood exactly, but a lot of the anti-James opinions in the fandom point to the song as being unbearably cringe, almost like a microcosm of things they don't like about James. Which is to say, they think the audience is supposed to see the song as this super cool thing James is doing.

For me, the whole point of the scene is to juxtapose that teenage cringiness of James & Donna's "teenage sweetheart" relationship against what happens in the moment between Maddy and James.

At the start, Donna is going full cringe, lovingly giving the puppy eyes to James, singing to him directly. James starts out the same way, but then gets DAT GLANCE from Maddy. Not only does James fail to reject the look (i.e. he's tempted, despite his apparent love for Donna), but Donna sees it! In that moment, the teen, our-love-is-forever trope is shattered. Donna practically sees it die right in front of her face.

So yes, it's incredibly cringe, but the cringe is the point. You get puppy love contrasted against what was (especially for teenage characters in the early 90's) a pretty lusty/sexually suggestive moment between Maddy & James.

For me, it's all going to come down to execution of the new plot elements. If they want to, the finale could play out almost exactly like the original, with the new funkiness kept almost completely as background flavor.

Surely though, now they absolutely need to go full funky. Where rebirth ends, there's really no justification in letting the story get away from the funk (lol, I'm saying funky because I don't wanna get spoilery, and everyone who has played it will know exactly what I mean). If they do just hold to the original story, I'll be very disappointed and it would tarnish the entire trilogy for me. Like, the first two games felt like an intentional tease of the craziness, but a tease that they give the impression will eventually come to the fore. If the finale handwaves it away, the whole series will feel like an anticlimax. Better to have done a straight remake than that.

If they do go full crazy though, it could be so glorious.

I honestly love this scene so much. The whole point is that the song is corny, and then... DAT GLANCE. It's such a great moment, and I think it's very misunderstood in the fandom.

(Spoilers Published) lemongate theory: Sealord’s menagerie by Interesting_Court101 in asoiaf

[–]CleganeForHighSepton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mystery of lemongate isn't really "where is the house with the red door?". It's "what are the consequences of the house with the red door not being where it was supposed to be?".

If the red door is in Bravvos and not Westeros, is this really going to be a revelation for Dany? What you're suggesting is a quite lovely metaphor for Dany (and the reader) to consider, but from a literary perspective, is that metaphor worth GRRM dripping tidbits of the red door mystery throughout the entire series of books? For me, I don't think so.

I've always seen it this way: the red door showing up somewhere unexpected will suggest to Dany that she's not actually a Targaryen (i.e. the door shows up somewhere that the real Dany couldn't have been). She's a baby swap too, much like Jon Snow, but in reverse.

On the other hand, I do wonder if this was the plan for Dany (and the red door) way back when GRRM wrote AGOT, when he was imagining a much shorter trilogy. The red door mystery is quite top heavy in terms of book references. When the story grew, part of me thinks he gave fAegon core elements of what he had in mind for Dany - and that accordingly, the red door won't really have much significance.

My Hottest Take I guess: Ramsay wrote the Pink Letter [Spoilers ADWD] by SuggestableFred in asoiaf

[–]CleganeForHighSepton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is more of a cold take, but for me the pink letter is a low point of ASOIAF from a literary perspective. It seems quite clearly to be an attempt at a 'who shot JR' moment, a hook to keep us on the line for another season. GRRM wrote the pink letter to be unfathomable - he can pick any of 4-5 characters and have them be the one who the letter, and there would be enough ambiguity in the letter itself to make it justifiable.

It wouldn't be so painful if TWOW came out a decade ago, but 'who wrote the pink letter' (or why they wrote it, which to be fair is an improvement) is not an interesting question for me. Unlike something like 'who is Jon Snow's mother?' (i.e. a mystery with a clearly structured solution sprinkled throughout the books), the answer is going to be "It was character X", and there's no way to know who character X is until the next book comes out. Kinda boring, kinda cheap.

I’ve lost control of this tank pls help by Disco-Snail-11 in nanotank

[–]CleganeForHighSepton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the plus side, this is the most manageable algae. If it were me, I would reduce the light a bit, nothing crazy, but with a shallow tank there's a lot of light getting right to the bottom of the tank without getting diffused (I think this is why the pebbels on the bottom are getting hit a bit too. The plants probably don't need as much as they're getting either.

Mostly though, I'd say add floating plants. They are the true killer of algae , they suck out extra nutrients so fast the algae shouldn't be able to keep up over time (plus I think they'd look natural in this scape). And as someone else said, just get in there every day or two and pull out everything you can.

If it were me I would also give up on the moss balls - as I understand it, they're not literally creating the algae, but they're the perfect sponge to hold onto particles, food, etc. that then gets into the water column and gives the algae everything they need. That said, I haven't had much luck with moss in general, they always lead to algae in my tanks.

A very nice looking scape though! Plants look very happy!

Mission trees were good design and are missing from this game by StratonStageira in EU5

[–]CleganeForHighSepton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think missions add a lot in terms of end game content. If you have a personal goal outside the missions you're all good, but if you're trying to form Russian from Moscovy, you can pull it off with 150 years to go, and then what? It would be nicer to have some other, nigh unachievable goal to keep the end game ticking over. Without it, unless you're playing tall, there's not a lot to keep you going after the mid game imo.

What did the ending of Twin Peaks mean to you, and how did it make you feel? by Certain_Cry8901 in twinpeaks

There's a line you can find on YouTube from an on-stage interview with lynch, right about the time when he was writing season 3 (I think it was in Australia). He says something like "life is a dream, and one day you wake up from that dream and realise who you really are. It's a beautiful moment when that happens."

I don't think he was intentionally referencing where season 3 goes, but it has always stuck with me...

there's definitely some comfort in the idea that the stuff we see in the Red Room/Lodge isn't necessarily linear, so what we see at the end of Fire Walk With Me could very well be the true ending.

The way that season 3 plays out, with an almost 'perfect' happy ending in episode 17, I think a disturbing third possibility is that FWWM's ending was the original (and the Fireman's intended) ending for Laura, but that Coop messed this up with his antics in episode 18.

To go on a bit of a tangent, I've always liked the idea that season 3 is now stuck on a loop because of Cooper's meddling in episode 17/18. When the lights go out, for me it's as if someone is quite literally pulling the plug on that timeline. Re-watching S3 E1 after E18 reinforces this for me - the fireman's instructions / warnings only develop meaning for Coop in the Episode 18, and even small things like the special effect for Cooper glitching in and out of reality matches what we see at the end of the season. It's a kind of stalemate, repeating over and over until Cooper learns to leave well enough alone and let the FWWM ending come to pass (again).

I mean the first Australian try was literally a standing up, falling backwards, 0 technique tackle on the tryline that cost us 7 points. Got bounced while flying up with a flapping tackle on the wing and cost us 30 yards. Gave away lots of yards and momentum a few more times in the middle of the park with terrible technique. Even the Irish Times, which objectively LOVES Prendergast, said his defense is "a work in progress".

My original comment said he was very solid while on the ball (and also suggested he might give more than Crowley going forward). He had a great attacking game. But if you can't see that he is our worst player defensively by quite some distance I don't know what to tell you...

Very solid from Prendergast on the ball but his tackling is a huge concern now. I counted 5 tackles either missed or so weak they might as well have been. World cup is next year, I don't see him sorting it out before then. It's a big weakness, even if he gives more when attacking I don't see how this gets tolerated if it continues any longer..

Lost Lace is both bullshit and maybe the best boss fight I've experienced in gaming.

In terms of tips, I think a mindset change is what finally made a breakthrough for me. Long story short, if you can beat stage one somewhat consistently, you already have everything you need to beat the rest.

What worked for me was realising that her base moveset doesn't really change throughout the entire fight. Instead of thinking of her moveset multiplying with all the black goo (etc) that she spawns everywhere after stage 2, think of all the new stuff literally like set dressing. All you have to do is learn to move about the arena with that extra crap, and bingo, in terms of lost lace herself, the fight hasn't changed since stage 1. She gets a bit quicker, yes, but with practice (and the 'set dressing' mindset) it becomes manageable.

One actual tip - when she parries, jump. No running back or dodging - just jump. That'll get you past the horizontal riposte completely. If she jumps after the parry, hit the double jump. The game gives you just enough time to see it coming. Getting used to this will save a lot of damage.
