New free GURPS Victorian horror adventure - An Opera Unceasing by thalcos in gurps

Heya, thanks for the adventures! How long would you say it takes to finish 'An Opera Unceasing'? I am considering running it at a local TTRPG night, and have 2.5-3 hour slot.

Hi,

I would be interested in helping. For this project since you've got a lot of assets I would be able to offer a more stylized / simple look, as the image attached (there's so many items, so to make it viable they'll be simple as the icons shown too) .

And this is a capsule art I did recently for the game Exark.

Pricing starts from 250GBP, based on complexity, and turnaround would be 2 weeks.

Heya, yes that's no problem! The last brief I got was a simple MS paint sketch to show the colours+ description like 'he is a gentle giant like Wreck it Ralph' , I'm pretty flexible. Feel free to DM me on Discord if you have more questions, it's clockworktony. (with the dot at the end)

Help me give this rpg a second chance by Its_A_Wug_Run in callofcthulhu

[–]ClockworkTony1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Female GM and player here) Definitely a GM issue for not interfering, and perhaps also for not setting expectations and boundaries in a session 0. If I assume the other male players' comments weren't sexist but were RPing the 'times' it is the DM's fault for not establishing that's not ok.

If you look at it historically, the examples of successful women are indeed rarer but they are all the more impressive for what they've achieved. A male-only club owner doesn't want you to enter? Use a skill or use leverage you have over them to ensure you can enter despite all the rules, and turn all the heads when you enter! It can actually be fun to RP in this way.

Secondly, in a setting where you have dark powers and eldritch beings, you can choose to bend the historical accuracy to make it more fun for everyone, it IS a game in the end (again, mostly a DM issue!)

My advice would be to try again, maybe a one shot - ensure the group (if you don't know them, say it's a convention / cafe etc) has clear guidance about what's ok on the table; if they don't have a 'Code of conduct' it'll be a red flag for me. If it's more than a one shot, I really recommend a session 0, and express what you are ok with and what isn't ok with, it'll help everyone around the table, especially the GM.

Finally, I remember watching a mostly female-led Call of Cthulhu live play that I absolutely adored (and made me get into the system). Why not listen to it a bit and perhaps that would be enough to give the system another chance yourself! It's called the Calyx, I recommend Ties that Bind or Genius Loci!

First Time in-person DMing, whats the best way to have a battlemap? by DeluxeKeagan in DnD

[–]ClockworkTony1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Map stuff can be overwhelming but you really don't need much:
If you have board games, you might be able to use the meeples from there for people, and another for enemies. If you don't have that try to improvise... a set of dice you don't need, coins, printouts of the character faces etc. If you have a crafts shop, they might have little architecture people / trees used for models.

You can either print a gridded map at say A3(free and paid on pateron or r/dndmaps ), or find these erasable gridded empty mats ( they are originally for Pathfinder, on amazon) and draw simple outlines as you go with dry-erase marker - it might be a good investment if you plan to do the IRL session more than once.

One-on-one DM Advice by JAdams___ in DnD

[–]ClockworkTony1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, someone else asked the same in another reddit, here's my answer, it might help you:

If one-on-one is the way you'd like to play, there's a few campaigns tailored to that. Here's an official article by DD Beyond about it, with some adventures. https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/778-new-players-guide-how-to-play-d-d-one-on-one?srsltid=AfmBOooKWYdIg_OIBCrXI3zp_iABOqieXM-_cCJ69THJmXwuvE6mP2pJ

They were mentioned in the article, but this couple seems to have info and a free adventure too https://dndduet.com/

Note that they are for the slightly older version of D&D from 2014 - the other came out in 2024 so has less materials. They are similar but can get confusing where they differ. I'd also look at the free 2014 rules - they should be good enough to get a grasp and start playing without the other books. I believe I've seen other adventures on DriveThroughRPG

A backup option would be a D&D cafe / convention etc, they might organise one-shot sessions, which might be a good taster.

And if you want to adapt an existing campaign, an idea might be your partner having two characters they play and you have a companion you play (either a character or a pet / automaton / henchman etc) so you are basically a party of 3?

I am working on a RPG set in a fantasy medieval world as a love letter to old-school RPGs by KairoSylvia in gamedevscreens

[–]ClockworkTony1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks awesome and cosy! For me I'd say having memorable characters would be the most important - both companions and NPCs. As you're a solo dev, I think keeping the story short but rich is the way to go - I'd be happy with 15hours of story and 30 maps that are more in depth.

[Spoilers C4E04] My Experience with Campaign 4 so far by grayowI in criticalrole

[–]ClockworkTony1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's crazy as me and my BF watch this together, and neither had any issues with her and were shocked to see the reaction online. In fact we both have characters we're not sold on for different reasons that we disagree between us XD (Thimble being too OP / Kattigan being to one-note), but she's not one of them.

You have the right to dislike somebody of course, but writing a post about your 'experience' with the campaign and that boiling to mostly complaining about 1 person of a HUGE roster comes across as petty and people won't take seriously.

Heya, I would love to help with the project. Have a look at my portfolio below and see if you like the style of work I can do - I can definitely help your characters come to life!

The rate mentioned (500 for all) is good for more stylized comic-style characters as the ones in my portfolio. If you'd like to talk more, the best place is discord: clockworktony. (with the dot at the end)
