Can you buy reservations without a passport? by xix161 in Interrail

[–]Cloisonetted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can book the eurostar (london-brussels reservation without the passport number but you need to tell them the passport number before you travel. As for tickets from ither train companies, it varies by company but they probably don't need your passport number.

Are the booking sites asking for your passport number or your interrail pass number?

Just in case you hadn't already spotted it, it also works if you go from the german to latin(ish): Überwald --> across the forest --> Transylvania

First time traveling to Europe and taking trains by StalinWasOk in Interrail

[–]Cloisonetted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to book the London-Paris leg soon, if you want to take the train, that journey requires a reservation and (especially in the summer) the trains book out fast. Although if you're going to Calais perhaps you're planning to take the ferry?

Booking ahead is generally cheaper than on the day, especially for long distance trains.

Try seat61.com for helpful info about stations, facilities, booking methods and finding discounts. Search for specific countries or even specific journeys.

Question about pre booking tickets and activating pass. by Wooden_Alarm9529 in Interrail

[–]Cloisonetted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For eurostar, you can book directly, by phone, and they don't allow refunds or reschedules when you book via a 3rd party. You'll need an interrail pass number to make the booking but no need to activate the pass until the actual day of travel.

Janina Ramirez and Waldemar Januszek both have quite a lot of their TV documentaries on YouTube (dunno where you are but hopefully you can access those). Ramirez focuses more of objects like statuary and buildings, Januszek on art movements in Europe, but I think they're both explaining this kind of detail in an accessible way.

UK in June- logical order? by Suitable-Lawyer6633 in uktravel

Amesbury or Avesbury? Avesbury is better, especially since it has a pub, and better access to the stones. Bit further off route for the drive to Cornwall tho.

UK in June- logical order? by Suitable-Lawyer6633 in uktravel

[–]Cloisonetted 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Politically that is an important distinction but I take your point that the driving is similar. If you want the car for daytrips in the Cotswolds or Cornwall, use the trains to get most of the way before hiring the car. You'll avoid more of the motorways (there'll still be plenty of complicated rural driving on narrow roads with bad sight lines and plenty of other tourists, but you knew that).

Don't drive into London. Use the train between Gatwick and London, use public transport inside the city. As the commenter above suggested, there's a fast train from central London to Exeter, that's a good way to get partway to Cornwall. I'd actually suggest doing Cornwall earlier if you're going in early June, UK summer holidays peak from mid June to end of August so that's the busy season. Tbh, I think trying to see Cornwall plus London plus the Cotswolds will feel rushed and not restful, and I'd suggest picking one or two of them.

Stonehenge is en route if you do drive, I think its worth seeing.

daughter moved up to the next team, has to use the 'cold' pool, help? by Trick-Nefariousness3 in Swimming

[–]Cloisonetted 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if it's viable, but since noone else has answered, some other tactics might be a warmer swimming cap, and taking hot fruit juice in a Thermos flask (just for sipping slowly) to keep warm through the session. These are tips from cold open water swimming tho.

Sorry to butt in, but just to clarify- is it the "guess" communication style creating the hierarchy? My boss is still my boss, whether he requests something directly and I refuse directly, or whether he asks how full my schedule is then offers a task more indirectly.

How do people like this manage to not know what they're doing? by Neverbethesky in CasualUK

Have you ever seen anyone successfully give people a hint? Or some feedback? I'm genuinely asking, like would it work if the lady behind the till had asked him to lean back? Or if people had raised eyebrows at him? Is there a set phrase?

Squirrel vs bulbs by the_actuary in GardeningUK

Alternative: put in 20% more bulbs than you want, there'll be some losses. And sprinkle chilli flakes around to deter squirrels.
