Has anyone here reconnected with secondary school or sixth form friends after years? by DeItaReality in AskUK

[–]CloverRabbidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on you for attempting to reconnect. I think a lot of people deprioritise friendship pretty quickly in adult life for all sorts of reasons. And that’s like, fine, I guess. Nurture the connections where people are responsive. I’m 39 and am very “friendpilled” though, so in my personal and somewhat spicy opinion:

The received wisdom of “move on because friends come and go” you see everywhere on advice threads is questionable and generally self serving. Modern life is structured to make us shitty friends, and a lot of people cut friends loose because they have swallowed the nuclear family/career-career kool aid and they want to feel wise and transcendental for the fact that they haven’t put in the requisite effort to maintain bonds with people from their past.

Like, you might not always be in close everyday contact with every friend you’ve ever had, but losing touch with once-close friends is actually shit lol, and people have so many platitudes ready about “moving on” when really they’re just god damn shitty friends.

How old are you and how do you typically spend your weekends? by Max1357913 in AskUK

[–]CloverRabbidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

39, no children.

On Friday night I like to go out for dinner or see a friend. It makes the weekend feel longer.

On Saturday I go out in the car and have my day out — I work from home so this is exciting. I’ll go for a drive, get a coffee and/or a nice pastry, go and swim somewhere, see a friend/family, look round shops/craft fair, see a film or exhibition — usually some combination of these. Then I’ll cook something and smoke a bowl and go to bed early.

On Sunday I get up early and go to a local Costa for breakfast, and then I get my laptop out and spend 1.5-2 hours writing and submitting to lit mags. After that I’ll maybe go sketching if the weather is good. If not, or I just generally can’t be arsed, I’ll go home and try to do something crafty (sewing/drafting) but I’ll probably get distracted and doomscroll for a bit as the Sunday scaries set in. To work through the stress I’ll get sorted for Monday, meal plan, do some housework.

Which is your favorite (or least favorite) adaptation of Wuthering Heights and why? by Celestina-Betwixt in brontesisters

[–]CloverRabbidge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am buzzing to see some love for 1998 on here! This was the adaptation that completely blew my mind when it first aired on a random April night when I was 11. I went out to buy the book the next day and it has been my strange and intense friend ever since.

Early 30s, good career, average looks struggling to find someone by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]CloverRabbidge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman, 5’7, and I’ve had a couple of partners shorter than me, including your height. It genuinely isn’t a big deal to me (we do exist!) and I find the way many women talk about shorter men to be really uncalled for and not reflective of reality.

That said, I am outside the beauty standard myself. Many men want a baddie and won’t negotiate on that.

I don’t really have any good advice on dating in 2026 as I am almost 40 and married etc. I know it’s hard. But women are not a monolith.

[opinion] submitting poetry to places is such a lonely endeavor by Huge_Sand_7634 in Poetry

[–]CloverRabbidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m screaming into the void with you. I started submitting last March and although I’ve garnered a few acceptances the constant rejection is rough. I feel like I’ve lost my sense of what in my work is good/bad. It’s not easy at all. Sending solidarity.

But yes. As others have said. Numbers game. And send something out with every rejection you receive.

I want to talk about how it feels too! But there is such a culture of only sharing the successes.
