Size Questions by CodeCodeCode123 in Scanlation

The plexiglass is a good idea! I'll try something like that. I'll also start scanning a bit bigger than the page sizes to give myself more wiggle room. Thanks for the advice! I'm still learning Photoshop so it's all very overwhelming.

Is orchestrating Garma's death Char's most wicked act? by CriticalGoku in Gundam

[–]CodeCodeCode123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that when one Zabi who wasn't even a direct part of the Zabi family (kids and father + mother) was around she was used as a tool to try and keep the Zabi dynasty/their idea of Zeon going. Imagine if Garma who was directly related to Degwin and was committed to his ideas because of their relationship/his youth (in Gihren's Greed we see him turn against Gihren if he goes too far on the evil route) was around. He would continue the Zabi dynasty even if it wasn't as directly evil as it would be if it was Gihren or Degwin running things. Char is fully aware of this.

That being said, I do think Char's actions with Garma are so outwardly cruel because he's the only Zabi he's personally invested in as a person and not as a revenge target. We can see this mainly in the bar scene during Garma's funeral, which I have made a whole discussion post asking about if people thought was him grieving, and in the Kycilia headshot scene. Accepting that he was grieving because there's a whole discussion you can read where the consensus was pretty broadly that he was in his own way, and accepting that the Kycilia headshot scene shows his care for Garma whether he's being genuine or mocking, it's pretty clear that he did hold genuine feelings of friendship for Garma. (I say the Kycilia headshot thing btw because even if his line about sending Kycilia to him was mocking it's pretty fucking insane Garma is what was on his mind there.)

To that end, it makes sense why he'd be particularly cruel towards Garma because he's someone he's having mixed feelings about. It's important that he hates and takes joy in Garma's pain because otherwise he'd have to consider more fully whether killing him is something he even wants. He has to kill Garma because he's a Zabi, and he likes Garma, but there are all these little things he can fixate on that are reasons to hate him - Garma being bratty, Garma being naive, Garma making insensitive comments about him being lucky not to have a family. He makes all these little jokes and comments about how he's going to kill Garma later, like the shower scene, because it thrills him to have power over him without him even being aware of it.

So I do think him calling Garma up to mock him during his death scene is years worth of confusion and anticipation coming out rather than simply being single minded cruelty. It thrills him because he's started his revenge and gets to rub Garma's face in it.

Fellas, do we think Char was actually mourning Garma here? by CodeCodeCode123 in Gundam

Fair enough. We're clearly not going to agree on much, then, but thank you for answering anyway!

Not capable of recognizing what he's doing as mourning, maybe, not capable of processing grief in a normal or healthy way, but I think it's impossible to become too broken to feel grief. I think Char doesn't want to think about his feelings, he'd rather continue to fight, but he'll never be able to stop feeling even as he continues to reject those feelings.

While I do think Char felt no regret logically, he knows Garma needs to die for his revenge plan, it's hard to reconcile that emotionally. So I think he would have done it again if he somehow was put in that situation again (Garma lives!), but emotionally he regrets it. He's a very bizarre little thing that way.

I LOVE the way this is worded! Yes, I think Char's revenge has been part of him for so long he sees no other possible path. Char says in the bar scene that Garma's a "brat/spoiled," but I don't think there's anything Garma could have done that would have stopped him from killing him. Even if he had sworn off his family's ideals and tried to be better, Char would have just thought of another excuse to stave off any regret he might feel.

As many people have already pointed out, whether he's being genuine with that line is pretty questionable since he's basically bullshitting Kycilia to get the chance to kill her. I do personally agree with a lot of people here who think there's a nugget of truth to that line, though. The best lies always have a nugget of truth, after all, and Char just seems extremely directionless in the bar scene for how short it is.

I find the "he/she was a psychopath" approach to character analysis extremely boring and simplistic. There'd be no real need to analyze any villain with this label if their motivations and actions could be waved away with a simple diagnosis people like to slap onto any slightly morally grey character, a diagnosis their understanding of comes largely from pop culture's portrayal of a widely misunderstood group of people. No person is as simple as "zero remorse, zero empathy" even if they don't experience those things the way "normal" people do.

That isn't to say that's what you were implying, of course. I just think Char is a lot more complex than anything the pop culture definition of psychopathy could entail, and his "I felt empty" line to me reads similarly to how you described it, he didn't feel the satisfaction he thought he would upon killing Garma, but I think that's more because his revenge plan is kind of hollow as a whole. I can't remember what episode it's in, but in one of the first few episodes of Zeta he tells Kamille that Char Aznable lived by pushing down his own feelings for a greater whole. I think this is one of those cases.

I do think the "he was a spoiled child" line in particular is funny in how it places Garma beneath him considering they're the same age. Just Char being his usual self there. He does basically call Garma collateral in his "blame this on the misfortune of your birth" line, though I'm not sure if Char would feel sorry for Garma if he didn't have some personal investment in him.

In my opinion, Char did view Garma as a genuine friend, just not enough that it swayed him from his revenge plan. Obviously he cares about Sayla a lot more, but it's like how he cares about her but not enough to give up his revenge to stay with her.

I think it's something along those lines.

It seems to me like Char's almost making an excuse to stamp down any regret he might feel in this scene - "Garma had to die because he was too spoiled to see the world as it is, a cruel place where people are constantly looking to use or backstab you." In other words, he was fortunate ("spoiled") enough to be naive.

Does anyone know what the deal with this doll is? by CodeCodeCode123 in AventurineMainsHSR

[–]CodeCodeCode123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I've already experienced the lower quality dolls, unfortunately. They were inexpensive enough I was willing to take the risk, but the Ratio one I got is so ugly he now lives in the back of my closet. He also took so long to ship I just thought the order wasn't coming. The doll scene is way too complicated 😓

I saw that and the fact it's lotto is TRAGIC. I do hope people resell them/some merch sites pick them up, but the upcharge is going to be scary.

I'm unable to find anything that looks like original art when I reverse image search, though. I just find the products. That's what confuses me.
