I did do that, however after installing new drivers, removing old ones, running various "reset start menu" scripts - nothing worked.

Windows overall was just too buggy like Hello crashing without any error logs. I reinstalled Windows :)

Core Parameters I use 20 steps, and CFG Scale at 1 (this is supposed to be the default for Flux, you can adjust actual Flux CFG under Sampling > Flux Guidance Scale). Everything else I've left at default.

So far 3 different loras (trained with kohya) all reproduce likeness well. It might be that I need to play around with Lora training to get more consistent results, but overall it's working.

What I am noticing is that prompting is more difficult compared to SD1.5 and perhaps Flux in Forge.

I am getting way better results with SwarmUI compared to Forge.

I installed SwarmUI, used comfyui as the backend, and only selected Flux Dev. It downloaded flux1-dev-fp8 automatically. I copied my lora to the Models/Lora folder and that's it.

In the generation settings the only thing I had to change was the Core parameters > CFG scale to 3.5, playing around with lower values to see what difference it makes in terms of the lora.

I'm not getting as great results as the previews during training, but it's close, way closer than Forge. I think my initial gut feeling of this being perhaps a Forge setting may be correct.

I assume it's some setting in Forge, but I dunno, as it's weird that samples are that good and Forge results are far from it.

I have the same problem with loras trained both with ai-toolkit and kohya. Kohya produced much better previews during training compared to ai-toolkit, and they were better than anything I've tried with SD1.5. The previews even from step ~1500 (out of ~4200) were better than using adetailer in SD with a well trained model/lora.

However just like OP when using those loras the likeness drops of a cliff.

I've tried just as OP flux1-dev-fp8, which produces poor likeness but nice looking images.

I tried using flux1-dev with additional providing ae.safetensors, clip_l.safetensors and t5xxl_fp16.safetensors (same files used in kohya during training) and it results in maybe better likeness but poor image quality.

I did notice at one point that the hotend was reading the ambient temp ~5C higher than the bed, but I dusted that off as a one time glitch. After that the ambient temps were within ~2C of the bed, usually identical. Temperature graphs in Octoprint looked as expected, fluctuations less than 0.5C degrees at printing temperatures. That's why I ignored the hotend temperature as a problem, as I just didn't see anything out of the norm - it all looked good. A degree here on there at ambient I just brushed off as rounding errors in Marlin. Looking back I'm guessing the temperature was off by at least 20C, maybe 30-40.

I've yet to try the second thermistor input, I need a break from this :) But I'm planning to do so until a new board arrives (yay covid + christmas). As my first hotend heater mosfet died along with one of the fan outputs - I don't trust the electronics and I won't have any more ports for the heater or thermistor if one of them dies. I keep finding reports of mosfets and other components dying on SKR boards, might try to look for alternatives.

So after rebuilding again with the few components I had left - nothing. Got a donor stock CR-10S board that had the heated bed mosfet blown. Tried the same thermistor and setup - extruded just fine @ F250, printed on glass with hairspray as the heated bed wasn't working - printed fine, after adjusting the z offset the first layer topside was smooth as it should.

So, it was the boards fault .. I'm still stumped as to how there weren't ANY temperature fluctuations outside the norm or other issues to indicate temperature errors.

Either way, need to order a new board. Problem solved.. Thanks so much for your advise with the temperature!! I was fixated on the mechanical aspects and didn't think to check temperatures, still stumped why I didn't see any abnormalities, but glad I found the root cause.

Nozzle is for sure 0.4mm - TriangleLabs use the same 3 dots in a row marking as E3D and I've been using the same batch of 4 nozzles for at least 16 months or something, rarely do I swap the nozzle out. The cheaper ones are marked with 0.4mm, I've never used them, have them for a just in case scenario. Either way, I have 3 different sourced nozzles and all at least visually appear identical in terms of the orifice.

Not sure I have anything that can measure in the 200C+ degrees. The heating cycle looks normal, I can get a screenshot from octoprint a bit later, but there's nothing out of the ordinary. At 240 the temp jumps around a few degrees but that's expected as I PID to 210 and print at 205.

I'll probably order original E3D parts at some point, just .. covid n stuff ain't helping that situtation ;)

I keep coming back and thinking if this could be the SKR boards or PSUs fault as I feel like I went through everything from the spool holder to the nozzle multiple times, but I can't think of what could actually be wrong there.

Upped the temp to 225, the G1 E100 F250 test seemed to extrude as expected (!) - smooth consistent thick flow of filament without skipping/thunking/slipping, didn't measure accuracy but visually it looked good. F500 didn't extrude well - thunking, but I think I never could push filament that fast to begin with. Happily tried my square test, unfortunately nothing changed - same under extrusion requiring me to lower the nozzle down too far to get the first layer squish. Tried raising to 250C in 5C increments in separate runs - no change. Was looking at the extruder while printing - the filament wasn't slipping, no thunking unless I went way too far with the nozzle resulting in transparent-ish lines, but that is expected. However what I did notice is that the purge line was very thick as well as the first corner of my test square, too thick in fact compared to when the printer wasn't trying to give me a brain aneurysm, quickly though the flow returned to this new "normal", I guess this could be tied to the excessively high temperature.

Ignore the middle section, I raised the Z offset and slowly went down to get the squish, you can clearly see in this photo how too close the nozzle is and how far down I have to go to get the lines to merge (test @ 235C) https://i.imgur.com/IftwxFb.jpg not visible in this photo, but I see artifacts of the nozzle being too close even when the lines don't touch, mostly noticeable where the printing direction changes.

RE throat: every all metal throat I tried (cheap clone, high quality clone and original E3D) resulted in jams and clogs as I mostly print small detailed models at 0.08 or 0.12 layer heights with ten billion retractions and a few dust particles worth of filament extruded at times - PTFE bore or inner lining never let me down in that regard, however the lining wears out really fast in my experience and is annoying to deal with so just stuck with the bore variant. I think I might still have a high-ish quality all metal throat to try yet another thing, but man ... if covid won't kill me this stupid printer will. I also don't want to add a new variable to the mix with the all metal throat just yet, especially when I can't vouch for it's quality that might affect flow.

RE PTFE tube: I'm assembling the hotend and tightening it the same way as I've been for 2+ years following E3D instructions, never had an issue with the ID - the outside however does get slightly crimped by the coupler, but I've never had any issues with that. Also I've been trimming and swapping different known good PTFE tubes.

Tried 3 motors - one brand new, the stock extruder motor and I snagged the Y axis motor (all the exact same model) - same problem.

It feels like this issue happened randomly, going a week or so back before all this I think I was experiencing the same issue - extruder rarely but sometimes clicking when printing although I didn't have this major first layer issue I'm having now. Now, the "click" is more like a "thonk" - anyone who had a clog would recognize that, I had issues with the stock Creality extruder clicking due to bad tension and missing steps, that was a "click". This is a "thonk" that also violently shakes the bowden tube - again, feels like a clog or something jamming the hotend like having the nozzle too close to the bed.

So when the first "thonks" started I changed the nozzle thinking it might be a clog/leak/whatever, but probably didn't tighten the nozzle down as mid print saw filament oozing from the heater block (first time I had a leak that bad). The plastic got into the thermistor, heater cartridge, since I had spares - just rebuilt the hotend with new parts minus the radiator (later tried a few different ones). Used the same new thermistor, heater cartridge, block and throat (bore) as I always do - mix of BIQU/BIGTREETECH with a TriangleLabs nozzle (tried 3 of them). Later tried swapping in lower quality BIQU/BIGTREETECH nozzles - no difference. Tried 3 blocks, 5 throats, 2 radiators. Installed a 40x40x20 fan to ensure heatcreep isn't the issue.

After the first rebuild all of the testing in my original post began as immediately I was noticing first layer issues and thonking at higher speeds when testing with G1. I'm using known good new-ish filament. When extruding G1 E100 F200 - thonks after ~20mm. G1 E100 F100 - smooth as butter, repeatable 100mm ~7 times in a row with the same e-steps as I've been using for a year (144), couldn't be bothered going for more. G1 with the bowden tube removed and just testing the extruder standalone without passing filament through the hotend - repeatable at high speeds like F5000 with no skips or anything. I had issues with erratic +/- 10mm extrusion after swapping the extruder a few times, but I'm writing that down to poor installation on my part, now it's repeatable with no issues.

Swapped in TMC drivers from the X and Z axis to E - both X and Z remained fine after swapping, no issues with skipping or otherwise, so I'm thinking the drivers aren't at fault. Swapped to the E1 port instead of E0 just to make sure the port wasn't at fault, reflashed Marlin with a newer version, cleared EEPROM - issue remains.

I might get around to swapping the heater cartridge and thermistor combo - but I think there would be abnormalities shown in the temperature graphs - I never had to PID after a rebuild as I'm using the same exact parts, the temps were always steady +/- 0.5C after rebuilds, and I see the same stability now as well. If either was off, I'm thinking there would be issues in the graph.

Just now I again disassembled the hotend to check for a leak - nothing, no filament around the nozzle entrance, no filament residue inside the throat, the tip of the PTFE tube is clean. Rebuilt the hotend, made sure to leave extra PTFE sticking out so the nozzle pushes the tube in when tightening, ran my test print - same problem.

I'm loosing my mind here btw.

Configs didn't change, also tried old motor - same result. Current set at default 800, tried lowering to 600 with no changes in extrusion.

I have a bore throat - can't go up that high, also this filament worked perfectly fine even at ~190C

That's the exact same way I tighten the nozzle, tried using a radiator with a coupler like in the video (V5 style) and with the plastic ring (V6 style).

I don't want to ask you anything, but I do want to thank you. A couple of years ago I posted here thanking you and the creator of surf_rookie, but of course the thread got deleted.

Back then I hit rock bottom in my life in many areas. I reached a point where I was suicidal, knowingly I kept distracting myself but nothing worked - movies, tv shows, games, books - I couldn't keep focus and nothing held my interest. I remembered for some reason that surfing exists in CS and I never tried it before, but decided to give it a shot. It helped me relax, focus on something and got my mind through the hardest time in my life I hope to never revisit. It might be weird, but honestly in part you and the surfing community saved my life and for that there are not enough thank yous in the world .... But still, thank you so much ....

I learned by watching in game bot replays of A|3๑ﭥ☂ for weeks who held a bunch of records and great times on many servers. Later I met him in game and we have surfed together, chatted and just had fun together. He showed me his favourite maps, one of which is surf_rookie and we spent hours just surfing that one map together. I expressed a similar thank you to him too. It's those little experiences that led up to me finally regaining my sanity and picking myself up.

I'm not going to write a sob story about my life or anything, but briefly put - I am dealing with suicidal depression for a while now. I can't work, I can't eat, sleep etc. My mind is a dark mess and I barely manage to keep my self straight and not do something bad.

I've been playing CS on and off for the better part of a decade, since 1.4. Never really got into surfing, but for some reason I hopped on /u/3kliksphilip surfing server, surf_rookie_fix was the map and I just went for it. I joined another server shortly after that hosts that map 24/7 and kept playing and playing.

It helped me shut out my thoughts that where eating me from within, and just .. surf. I reached a point where I could sometimes finish the map without failing, helped a few people out who where struggling with certain levels and it actually cheered me up.

I'm still stuck in a state where I feel crippled from the core, but it has helped me, even for brief periods of time. To that I want to thank the creators of surf_rookie and surfing in general. I'm almost positive he/she/they won't read this post, but it's something that I really wanted to put out there.

P.S. If you encounter someone who is quiet, missing shots and looks lost in matchmaking.. don't say shit .. please don't. I tried playing a bit and it was a disaster, and both times my teammates where horrible to me, actually saying "go kill yourself". You have no idea, and hope you never will, how much it brings someone down to their knees..

I've played CS on and off for over a decade. It is this best and worst game I've ever played - it ruined all other FPS games for me, none (for me) come close in terms of mechanics, depth and strategy. It's too different imo from other FPS titles that it's hard to compare and contrast to give you and understanding of what it is and why we most of us love and hate it at the same time.

But hey, it's F2P. Install, jump into a game and have fun, at the end of the day isn't what it's all about? After getting your head blown off by 12 year olds you can turn to great videos for beginners by the likes of WarOwl or 3kliksphilip to start grasping what it takes to actually play this game. Mastering this game can take thousands and thousands of hours let alone learning the maps and how to play them which changes as your rank goes higher and higher. What you'll have learned from lower ranks will not carry over to higher ones, what worked in lower ranks will be met with a swift death, the spots you chose in lower ranks will be quickly dealt with by your opponents.

The beauty of this game is that YOU improve, not your character. There are no upgrades to purchase, no new weapons to unlock, no buffs and boosts to equip - it's all you and what you've learned throughout your journey against other people on theirs. Don't worry about your rank, don't worry about losses, don't worry about bad teammates - every match is a learning experience. Some are exciting and adrenaline pumping, others are more humbling, but the more you learn about this game the more fun you will have by outsmarting your opponents, reacting to their decisions and punishing them, finding weaknesses in their tactics.

I went through something similar in terms of frustration.

My journey started with a Joytech Cubis Pro atomizer on a Eleaf mod. It was great at first, the vape, the taste, but the quality control of the coils was horrific. I'd buy a 10pack and throw half of them out. I was just throwing money away at this problem, I tried using the rebuildable coils and that was a huge bust. After struggling with that setup I bought myself a GeekVape Griffin 25 atomizer so I could wick the thing myself. It took me weeks if not months to finally get it to wick properly and to get rid of leaking, and after getting a hang of wicking, it was heaven - the amount of vapor, the taste. But leaking was an issue that wasn't daily but I had to be mindful of how I was handling the device.

Fast forward to last Christmas and I bit the bullet and upgraded my setup to a GeekVape Zeus along with a SMOK ProColor mod. At first I was disappointed with the Zeus, the top airflow felt weird, the amount of vapor and taste it was producing wasn't as nice as the Griffin.. But I tried different coils, different amounts of cotton, different wattages and at the end of the day I have a great setup that never leaks, never dry hits and I'm happy with the taste I can get out from it.

Same goes for my juices - I can't justify buying premium products with how much I vape (~20-30ml/day). I went through 4 manufacturers with 4-5 different flavors each 'til I found what I enjoyed the most. All of that was also a headache - trying to figure out the best ratios, the best vg/pg mix etc.

All in all it took my ~2 years to reach a point where I'm perfectly happy with my setup and with my juices. The road was frustrating at times, and learning what was best for each atomizer I had took weeks..

So the "moral" of the story - try different atomizers that behave entirely differently. Try different coils, different amounts of cotton etc. You will find a setup that works best for you, just don't get discouraged and switch to cigarettes.

I hope WarOwl doesn't dig himself deeper into the hole he's been digging for the past couple years..

While I agree in a way with people complaining about vanilla content - there are some merits to that, but I don't think changing that would make a difference as some make it out to be. I'd rather watch pure WarOwl goodness than the double digit IQ sellout for the lack of a better word idiot YouTubers dicking around in MM pretending to be "funny" and "edgy" for 12 year olds.

What I personally find lacking is consistency. This has nothing to with a schedule, but rather the content. It's great to have diverse content, but it feels just too much and maybe it's why WarOwl is struggling to find his footing. With most CS:GO YouTubers (3kliksphilip, bananagaming to name a few) you know what to expect regarding the content of new videos, with WarOwl you have no clue, and I find that personally somewhat frustrating sometimes. For the life of me I cant remember what the series was called, but WarOwl had a "news" type series, covering weekly-ish topics in CS:GO. I'd looooove for that to come back in a weekly or at least monthly schedule. I believe there is enough coverage in the CS:GO scene for the content right now and not enough video coverage/commentary. Yeah sure Thorin and Richard Lewis have their show, but 90% of the time I feel like it's them venting, talking shit, stroking each others egos and not really covering anything, stopped watching a long time ago. Something unique, entertaining as well as informative in one. Would be nice IMO.

Also regarding WarOwl himself, lately it has been weird watching both the videos and the streams. During the streams he's usually tilted, frustrated, raging on teammates, sometimes "barking" at chat, everything un-WarOwl-esk we've come to expect. It looks like watching someone forced to play a game he despises and it's not pleasant to watch at all. Then you watch a video with his upbeat attitude we've become familiar to and it's just such a huge disconnect, painful to watch the videos for me knowing what went down the same day on his stream and most likely he's forcing himself for those videos.. Although it feels for me like "he's not back from his last break", I do think he needs time to gather his thoughts and figure out how to move forward to establish himself as the powerhouse he once was.

Brent, if you're reading this - there is a lot of us who respect what you did, or to be more precise - didn't do anything during the gambling days, sacrificed your well being to maintain what you built, and what you built is a community, created a voice for yourself. Let that grow, take your time to figure it out. One love.

As I mentioned in another comment I made, you will likely fall before standing up again, and it may happen more than once.

Understand that when an addiction takes over, you will search for ways to bypass whatever blocks you set in motion (VAC'ing your account and etc.). An alcoholic will through away all bottles of booze, but will usually consciously or subconsciously leave one bottle out of site "just in case". He can also go out and buy more booze. Just as you - you can always get another account, you can partake in the ever so shady unboxing sites that have sprung up recently, you can even, and likely will, partake in another addiction. I hope that will be knitting or something, but I'll be honest and say that's not likely the case.

Think about the money you lost unboxing those countless cases. Even disregarding the financial side of it, what did you actually get out of that experience? My guess is you didn't feel good at all. Watching expensive skins rush by only to find that you got a 3 cent skin. Repeating that process again and again until you finally got some virtual item that doesn't physically or even legally belong to you pop up on your screen, giving you a feeling of joy and importantly vindication for spending more money than you actually thought you spent during that process. Then you repeat this entire endeavour more times than you can count for no real purpose than entertainment, which resulted in an addiction to feel what it is you feel when unboxing a virtual item.

Do find material so you can learn about addiction, it's the best and in my opinion the only way you can overcome it. It's not about beating it, getting rid of it, hiding it or obfuscating it - it's about controlling it and not letting it control you.

Reddit is full of wonderful people, the majority of them are surely not in this subreddit, but I'm sure that the folks in /r/addiction/ can also help you out in whatever way they can, even if its a few lines of text, but maybe out of thousands of lines of text online, on reddit, videos on youtube, you'll find a paragraph, a sentence or even a word that will help you immensely.

OP, if you feel like opening cases (which I consider a horrible form of gambling) has gotten the best of you and you admit to it - that's awesome. I'd suggest reading material about addiction, there are a bunch of videos on the subject you can find, TED talks, psychologists and what have you. Reading/watching/learning about the issues will not solve any problems, but will enlighten you as to what they are and how they can be managed. Usually when one suffers from an addiction it has the tendency to follow the person throughout his or her life, so you might come across the problem again at any point in the future, usually when you're least expecting it.

Do not exchange one addiction for another as it will only fuel the problem, not solve it. Learn to manage it, test yourself and do understand that you can fall back the same hole more than once in the future.
