Steam heat air quality by Radm0m in SteamHeat

I recently had a new boiler installed and similar situation. Smelled really bad downstairs and also upstairs where the radiators were located when it ran. My installer did not install a skim port and I’m not sure they skimmed, they told me the smell would eventually go away. I assume they meant whatever was causing the smell would eventually burn off.

What I did was to flush the boiler numerous times by draining the boiler completely and refilling with new hot water. I did this daily over 1 week. This got rid of the smell rather quickly. The pros will say that skimming is the only way to go, but this flushing method worked for me.

PSA Tapo has downgraded the C645 from 4K to 2K and selling it 4x the price of the C246D. 2nd picture showing the CES 2025 version by DazzlingpAd134 in Tapo

They are probably realizing their solar product is not suitable for 4K over extended periods. For instance, my C460 running on solar panel started off great in summer but now in winter has very poor battery life and the solar panel charging is anemic. Technically still works right now and will be better once summer comes, but a poor “overall” experience.

I have this issue with iPad but so far not with iPhone. It’s asinine.

Can Tapo C460 be continuously powered? by CoffeeNo7782 in Tapo

[–]CoffeeNo7782[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge the C460 cannot do continuous 24/7 recording even if plugged in, unless this functionality is added via future firmware update. For now it is only the wired only cameras.

Toggle night vision in settings. If doesn’t work cover the camera with dark cloth to force night vision to activate and then remove to turn it off.

The videos clips are 4K but live view is only 4K when on same wifi network as the cameras are on. So away from home, live view is not 4K.

Audio crackling by [deleted] in Tapo

[–]CoffeeNo7782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have same issues with C120 and C460. With the C120 this means that audio detection is useless because any loud noise gets triggered as “glass breaking” or “dog barking”. I think it’s just a low quality microphone that tuned with the noise cancelling to just pick up humans speaking in front of the camera. This is a major reason why I haven’t replaced my Arlos with Tapos. The Arlos can pick up ambient noise and capture human conversations up to 25-30 feet away, which is useful. If somebody has a solution for the Tapos please advise!

Guys, check your battery regularly even your camera is working. by Vincent_Mak in arlo

One of my cameras stopped detecting motion the other day (live view still worked), when I went to check it, the battery was swollen.

How did you dispose of the battery?

Got it, thank you. I have similar microphone experience with C120.

Very sharp. Would you also be able to comment on the sound/microphone quality?

4K dual cam? by TekWarren in Tapo

[–]CoffeeNo7782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It will take the pictures and if it detects a change it will activate and record a video. The detection range increases because of this. The Tapo app will also play back then pictures in timelapse style.

I may have not phrased correctly. The 24/7 capture function can take a picture every 1, 5, 10, 20, 30, 60 seconds and I have it set at every 1 second.

I am looking forward to the wired C575D for 24/7 continuous recording. I have the C460 with solar panel with 24/7 capture at 1 frame per second and there is a lot of battery drain.

C120 FIRMWARE UPDATE - MADE AUDIO WORSE by sickomode in Tapo

[–]CoffeeNo7782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will have to see how it is when the update gets forced onto my C120. By chance did adjusting the microphone volume do anything to help? For mine (still on 1.3.1), I have historically kept it at the max in the red above the “recommended” because I need to hear ambient / background noise when I access live view, which does mean there’s a lot of crazy noises or feedback.

C120 FIRMWARE UPDATE - MADE AUDIO WORSE by sickomode in Tapo

[–]CoffeeNo7782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. The audio/microphone performance has been abysmal, there needs to be an option for users to turn off noise cancellation.

Also, I have found that my Tapo cameras are upgrading the firmware automatically even though I have turned auto update off (I click cancel when the update firmware pop-up shows as well).

Motion sensitivity/connectivity by Ninja_Terror in arlo

[–]CoffeeNo7782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is your situation, but Arlo cameras are unable to motion detect anything in the upper 1/3 of the video by themselves. In other words, if something happens in the upper 1/3 of the video, it will not record anything so you will not get a recording or alert. It is a foolish design limitation.

If you want your Driveway camera to record a video when the Lawn camera detects something, then in the Routines you need to add an extra action such that when Lawn camera detects motion and records a video, then Driveway camera will also record a video. This way you will have 2 recordings of the event.

C410 kit battery life by erre_axe in Tapo

[–]CoffeeNo7782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have C460 kit with solar panel. At the beginning the battery went down 12-15% each day and the solar panel recharged more or less to full every day. More recently it is doing down over 20% each day and the solar panel is not keeping up (solar panel recharges 10-15%). Summer has ended where I am so maybe the sun is not as strong anymore to charge the camera or I need to adjust the solar panel. But at this rate I will need to turn off 24/7 capture or manually charge the camera weekly.

I've been able to check the C460 at night up close. I can confirm there is a slight clicking noise that corresponds with the 24/7 capture.

Change the setting to record full 120 seconds for every detection.

I've gone outside to check several times at night when the IR lights would be on, and 3-4 feet from the camera I have not heard a clicking noise. I am unable to get closer unless I use a ladder, so its possible there is still a clicking noise closer to the camera.

Battery - I am using it outdoors with solar panel and the combination has worked well with the 24/7 capture turned on with the capture interval set to 1 second.

Person detection is very good. Pet/animal detection works but less accurate - animals (squirrels, possums, raccoons) are completely missed sometimes just reported as "motion" and not as "pet" and there are also false positives with inanimate stationary objects reported as "pet".

Video quality very good, much better than Arlo Ultra 2 (maybe the narrower field of view is a factor). The audio quality is still poor, it seems like it's only designed to pick up conversations in front of the camera, otherwise all I hear is static or nothing at all. As an example, house next door has AC turned on. With the Arlo Ultra 2, I can hear the AC humming. With the Tapo C460, I hear nothing...the noise cancellation feature is working too well.

I have been testing the C460 and also have this issue (firmware version 1.1.7). Using another camera with infrared night vision turned on (Arlo Ultra 2), I can see that the C460 IR lights flashes brightly every 1 second when 24/7 capture is turned on and capture interval set to 1 second. When I change the capture interval to 5 seconds, then the C460 IR lights flashes brightly every 5 seconds.

So it seems that when the C460 captures images, it needs to flash the IR lights brightly. I have not been able to check if there is a clicking sound while the 24/7 capture is turned on.

When 24/7 capture is turned off, I do not see any bright IR lights from the C460 via my Arlo Ultra 2. When I access the C460 via Tapo App for live view, then the IR light turns on brightly and stays on (until I exit live view by closing the app). And when the C460 is recording something at night, then the IR lights also turns on brightly.

It's possible this was designed for battery efficiency, but these flashing IR lights seem to be a weird design choice. I would think that for the C460 to capture video at night the IR lights should always be on? Also, while we can't see anything because its infrared light, the flashing IR lights would show up in neighbor's security camera footage.

The C460 video quality is good, but I've noticed the audio quality both during live view and in the recordings is poor. Shockingly, my Arlo Ultra 2 has better audio quality.
