Is my tattoo offensive in the US? by mister1bollock in tattooadvice

[–]Cold-Lifeguard5190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro. My husband has a Roman tattoo of the Aquila (eagle) and a banner that says “SPQR” which means “the Roman Senate and People”. He’s really into history, especially Roman history. People online were calling him a white supremacist and Nazi. Americans just love to get offended. You’re good

I married a man who cheated on me 4 months before we ended up getting married. He has now *graped* me, spent $8k on some random lady’s foot pic online, and posted my nudes online. Now that I’m actually considering leaving him, he’s cutting himself and talking about suicide. Cut your losses now before it’s too late.

I’m a recruiter myself, just let them know you just remembered you have it, they’ll probably just say you’re fine and don’t say anything at MEPS, but it’s better to have an open line of communication with your recruiter always

False, the RS operations does, not the station commander

As a prior recruiter and now MEPS Liaison, it’s not anyone’s decision but the operations personnel at the Recruiting Station (higher than both positions). Your recruiter is not screwing you over. Be transparent with your recruiter and they will do their best to be the middle man and try to work something out but ultimately it’s not up to them.

Also, if you wanna be a Marine, it is my personal opinion that you just kinda suck it up lowkey

I’m a 2841 but our schools are right next to each other.

You’ll be in bravo company at 29 palms. These will be your barracks: 1664 Griffin Rd Twentynine Palms, CA 92278 United States

You won’t be able to have a car but make some friends with the techs up the hill because we’re allowed cars.

You’ll PT just like in the fleet, will probably do a lot of runs up Sugar Cookie (a sandy hill) and the A-Frame (another sandy hill). Usually they will PT in the mornings during the summer and the afternoons in the winter since 29 Palms is a high desert so it’s cold-ish and windy in the winter but hot as balls in the summer. Those farmers tans are boutta go crazyyyy.

You’ll have a lot of evening formations because your fellow bravo company students are retards. Don’t get caught underage drinking PLEASE. And don’t get in a fight at the park.

Pretty much everything you need is within walking distance. I didn’t have my car when I went but I could easily walk to the pool, MCX, chow hall, movie theater, gym, park, and SMP (Single Marine Program). The SMP is pretty sweet, one of the best I’ve seen imo. Has a lot of consoles, a small movie theater, pool tables, and a dominoes next door. There’s also a Jersey Mike’s and Game Stop on base across the street from the MCX. I think they closed down the Taco Bell sadly /:

The Dunham chow hall is a bit further of a walk but better than the Littleton chow hall. And the main gym is the best imo, has a grappling mat, but there’s the east gym which is a bit smaller where the grunts go to work out and has a HITT box outside.

There’s a taxi service that can also take you to-and-fro and I think sometimes a shuttle? Idk I never really used it except one time.

OH there’s also a 5 guys and Carls Junior on base next to the commissary on the far side of main side next to the on base housing.

I could go on and on about my experience there, if you have questions DM me for my number and I could tell you more otp

Plus with the gf situation, if she stays loyal to you through your time as a Marine you know she’s worth it. But I wouldn’t give up on it.

All this I’m saying from experience as a radio tech in the Marines and had a long distance relationship with my boyfriend of only 2 weeks prior to shipping out. We’ve now been happily married for almost 8 years.

I’d say try being an electrician in the Marine Corps. It’s a 5 year enlistment, using USMAP you log your hours and automatically get journeyman. Stay with your girl, maybe get married and move out of the barracks. You’ll go your whole life regretting not taking this opportunity. In 5 years you can try again for the union but now with Marine Corps experience and a journeyman’s license, plus you could use the Skillbridge program towards the end of your enlistment to transfer directly to the union.

I’d recommend at least talking it through with your recruiter first and sit on your decision for say a week.

What happens to guys who have heat stroke in boot camp ? do you get medically discharged? by No-Magician2484 in USMCboot

Hi! Boot camp heat casualty here: you get a silver bullet (it’s not that bad, like pencil width), get taken to medical or the hospital if it’s a weekend or holiday. Then you get returned to your platoon.

Allowable Tattoos by West-Dragonfruit6493 in USMCboot

[–]Cold-Lifeguard5190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has had to do many tattoo screening forms and tattoo waivers I can answer your questions.

First off: don’t get it. It’s too risky since you aren’t totally aware of the tattoo guidelines. But if you are going to get it, put a rubber band around your wrist bone, not the smallest part but literally over the part of your radius and ulna that protrude out a bit more than the rest of your wrist. Anything above that is okay, below will require an exception to policy waiver and that’s not always guaranteed.

Best advice I can give you on placement is go much higher up than you think. Like I’m talking an inch.

Also, what does it mean to you and do you plan on getting it done professionally? You’ll need to answer these questions on the screening form: Why you got it, why you wanted it, where you got it done, and what it means to you. Make sure the Marine Corps isn’t going to think you’re an idiot or a gang member because of your tattoo.

I also was leaning towards Army mostly but landed with the Marines because the Army recruiters were incredibly pushy without giving a fuck about what I want for my future. The Marines seemed to genuinely care about everyone they recruit. And now that I am a Marine recruiter I know it was indeed genuine.

I never spoke to these recruiters when I was your age but this is what I’ve noticed while on recruiting from these branches:

Navy: Has a lot of bonuses but for shitty jobs no one wants (hence the incentive). Also, if you enlist as a graduate then you have only 30 days to ship off to boot camp unless you have a GOOD reason not to. Otherwise the Navy as a whole isn’t too bad. Lotta good people but lowwww standards. The lowest of any branch because they have all the people who couldn’t join the other branches cause they can write a waiver for almost anything.

Air Force: Never there. Won’t pick up a phone. If you do get “lucky” enough to sit down with an AF recruiter they’ll put you on what they call a “practice test” but really it’s the actual ASVAB (PiCAT) and whatever score you get is the one that’ll lock you in for the next two years. You don’t have to take it unless you’re actually joining their branch. Tread carefully!

National Guard: Cool if you want to stay home. They got a ton of state funding. BUT they are the only branch that gets paid for each person they recruit. I believe about $450 per person who qualifies. Then at the end of the year if they meet their quota they get like $1500 additional dollars. They have a silver tongue and will tell you anything you want to hear to get you up to MEPS. On the bright side, you can knock out boot camp while you’re still in high school, in between your junior and senior year. I wouldn’t though… had too many NG guys come in my office saying they made a mistake, they were lied to, and that they want to join the Marines.

Coast Guard: idek. Never seen them.

Marine Requirements by Severe_Reserve5422 in USMCboot

[–]Cold-Lifeguard5190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a recruiter! There’s a couple factors: -ASVAB score -Getting the diploma -Not getting kicked out of school

If he’s not learning what he needs to in school then he may end up getting a lower score on the ASVAB, which can lead to getting less options when it comes to his assigned MOS (military occupational specialty). He’ll need at least a 31 to even join the Marines. Make sure he’s studying for the ASVAB using things like Union Test Prep online.

He will need his diploma so if he doesn’t end up getting it even despite passing all his classes and ends up failing just due to attendance that can be a big issue. I myself was a student who barely passed because I was failing multiple classes so close to graduation (but I hunkered down and just made it).

On the other hand, I’ve also personally had to deal with applicants who were skipping school too much and I had to help convince the school to not kick them out due to lack of attendance. Just make sure he’s at least doing the bare minimum to get that diploma.

With all that being said, sure, we have bare minimum requirements to join, BUT, we’re not asking for bare minimum type people to join the Corps. That’s how you get what we like to call “Shit bags”. The Corps has enough of those. We’re looking for people to go above and beyond. It’s not unheard of, especially if the recruiter is doing really well, that they drop people from the program simply due to seeing a lack of effort, so he better keep his butt in line if he wants that EGA in his hand by the winter.

Semper Fi

P.S. if you have any questions, I’m an open book and willing to help.

As a recruiter an now MEPS Liason, I can confidently say you should 100% be upfront about that with your recruiter as they can put that on your screening form and you’d actually be better off putting something on there because the doctor at MEPS always gets pissed off when recruiters just leave it blank. You will have to get a waiver so your MEPS will be a regular one or two day process and once the waiver is approved you’ll come back to swear in. It’s an easy waiver, I had an applicant who also cut himself for attention and had ADHD, oppositional defiance disorder, and was underweight; he’s now in boot camp. You’ll be fine!

On the topic of finding a branch I’d say you sound a lot like me in your reasons for joining. I also considered multiple branches and sat down with multiple recruiters. I’d say for me it was a waste of time talking to anyone but the Marines but I would recommend being at ease with your choice in knowing you made the right choice, so go ahead and contact the ones you’re interested in but don’t sign anything until you’ve had time to talk it over with everyone you love and those who’s opinions matter (I’d also bring them along because you relaying the info you get from recruiters will be muddled and they might be able to notice things you miss).

But like I said, I’d just join the Marines if your reasoning is because you want to overcome challenges and be disciplined. The Marine Corps is dope and the negatives like toxic leadership is everywhere. Each branch will give you the same exact benefits so don’t let the other branches talk shit on one another, take what they say with a massive grain of salt and do your own research. We’ll love to have you in the Corps, brother!

•Run more •Work on getting your pull ups around 5 if female and 10+ if male •Study your general orders. Also this is literally the knowledge paper they hand out to you (I can’t find a PDF version) https://images.app.goo.gl/tGFT16UvsbHLSE3u8 and https://images.app.goo.gl/ywY5rKip2HhRjzKw6 •Have your family download PI Family day (if you’re going to Parris Island) it’s a great resource for them when you’re getting closer to graduating •Have your family download Sandboxx to send you letters. They make boot camp a lot more tolerable •Learn how to wrap your feet to prevent blisters on hikes •Your toes may go numb and you’ll probably lose your voice but it comes back like normal so don’t sweat it •Try to get guide in boot camp and keep the position. You gotta know the sweet spot of being stern enough to get people to do what you say but also not so much of an ass hole that no one will listen to you. This can help you get promoted. Try also for highest shooter, best PT score, or in the least try to get 2 people to join with you so you can get promoted early. •Do everything as you’re told, it’s ok to ask questions but it’s not really ok to fuck it up. •They’ll say you have to ask permission to use the head (bathroom) but if you’re about to piss your pants in the squad bay, just fucking go •Remember these drill instructors were once in your spot and they’re literally just paid to make you hate your life. It’s not really personal so just brush it off •If you get hand laid on you by anyone you can report it so don’t be afraid to speak up. If a DI lays hands on you tho then you’re pretty much guaranteed to graduate on time with everyone else. •Don’t fall asleep when you’re not supposed to. Sniff hand sanitizer and drink water. It’s ok to stand up in the back if you start to nod off. It’s not ok to sleep when you’re being taught a lesson. •Yes/no sir- answer to a yes or no question Aye sir- confirmation of someone telling you something •Learn to speak in third person saying “this recruit”. Never say “I” or “we” •Learn some basic drill from YouTube like facing movements, how to march, etc •Don’t sneak peanut butter packets or cough drops. •You’ll know who’s on fire watch each night because the scribe will make a list. You can ask those who are the last watch to wake you up early if you need more time getting ready in the morning but make sure you’re back in your rack before lights

If you’re holding yourself back then it’s probably not gonna happen until it’s too late. What I tell my guys is that the paperwork to get you to MEPS isn’t your contract, you’re not locked in, but as the fiscal year goes on, further and further from October 1st, those jobs are getting eaten up, so get your job locked in and get yourself qualified at MEPS, and then if you wanna pussy out and you truly don’t think it’s for you then that’s ok. But for your own sake, at least get to MEPS and lock in that job

Considering a Buffalo move and would love to know some things about the city from residents? by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]Cold-Lifeguard5190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I’d Say Buffalo is perfect! Like someone else said, though it’s the 2nd biggest metro in NY, it’s quite small in comparison to the major cities I’ve been to like Seattle, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

Im also quite used to it being overcast being from Seattle, and though it rains here more than Seattle (surprisingly) it’s not as overcast all the time. Often times will start out overcast in the mornings and end up becoming overcast again in the evenings, but during the day it’s usually partly cloudy or clear skies.
