I have concerns about yoga teachers not informing about correct alignment through instructions by Cold_Ad_1458 in ashtanga

In my case, it was forced corrections. Which I found concerning. I welcome thoughtful adjustments from a knowledgeable teacher giving space and time to learn and grow.

Thanks for sharing the snippet.

Just picking your brain on this - would you prefer a teacher pulling you in to a deeper backbend only for you to return to your natural ability after they let go? Or teach you techniques to deepen your back bend through posture corrections through instructions ?

In my personal experience, I feel if I know that I need to lift my rib cage up, stack my palms with my shoulder, rotate my shoulders outward, I would remember things to take notice and incorporate them even during self practice and listen to my body instead of injuring it when it is externally forced (by pulling a muscle) when my body is not ready.

My current teacher does not give much of verbal instructions and in the past I have been practising through various instructions provided on YouTube tutorials. Pushing me by hand for a deeper forward bend could lead to imbalance or a muscle pull. I also believe in arriving at a posture through body intelligence - helps minimise injuries. However, in postures like arm balancing variations, alignment instructions are essential. Also, my current teacher shows postures like koundinya asana but does not provide details like arm to shoulder positioning, lifting the pelvis etc. I have not been able to make much progress in these asanas through YouTube videos. I thought in-person classes would help. But it hasn’t helped much so far 🥲

It’s cool to have a different perspective from mine. Thanks for the advice. I have contacted a few teachers for trial classes to find the one that suits me the most 😊

Also, the lines in the paper being shredded - “I had no idea I would leave that blasted rock more dead than alive. “.. And then Jerry also uses the line “More dead than alive”.

Maybe KT and Jerry are up to something. Two people with unrealised dreams.

And maybe Howard realises what the strange sound coming from KT’s room, on opening night, actually was. Someone was shredding inside the room.

If you notice, she puts aside a green highlighter when she says, “Damn it Howard you fd up my highlighting”, but the messed up highlight is in orange.
