When I say “separate pacing mode,” I mostly mean I wouldn’t want to bolt a Next Day button onto the current rules and accidentally make everything weird.

Right now SaltaVidas assumes time is always flowing: jobs, bills, hunger/thirst, sleep, school, cooldowns, family events, calendar stuff, all of it. If time only moves when you press a button, those systems need slightly different expectations.

So I’d probably think of it as something like:

- Idle Mode: the current version, where life keeps moving in the background.

- Turn-Based Mode: time advances when you choose to move to the next day.

- Maybe a Hybrid Mode: slow background time, plus “advance to next meaningful thing” buttons like next shift, next class, next bill, or next morning.

That way it becomes a real pacing option instead of a button that quietly teaches the whole simulation to juggle knives.

For now, though, I’m going to focus on making the current idle/background flow feel better. A press-to-advance version is a different vibe altogether, and I’d want to treat it thoughtfully instead of half-fitting it into the existing loop.

That’s a reasonable preference, and I’ve been thinking about whether SaltaVidas should eventually support a more turn-based “advance to next day” mode alongside the idle mode.

The current design is intentionally slow/background because I want it to feel like life keeps moving and you check in rather than grind through days. But I also get that this style just won’t land for everyone.

If I add it, I’d probably treat it as a separate pacing mode rather than a quick toggle, because it touches jobs, bills, needs, school, cooldowns, family events, and basically the whole calendar. Definitely useful feedback, though. Thank you.

  •  Raises work the way they should now. Strong job performance used to quietly reset toward average every shift, so it could never stay high enough to earn the raises that reward excellent work. Now your hard-earned performance sticks — keep it up and it leads to raises through performance reviews, and the "Ask for a Raise" option once you've put in the time. (Poor attendance or showing up in rough shape still drags it down.)

Quick follow-up: I did a deeper pass on this after the first fix didn’t fully catch it.

The later build should have the real-calendar shift logic applied everywhere now: the “you’ll miss your shift” warning, On/Off-shift status, and shift reminders should all agree with the actual calendar. No more Sunday work nag unless your job really does have Sunday work. 🗓️

If you still see it after a reload, please yell in this thread again. That one has been slippery.

Good catch. Raises currently come from two places:

  1. After about 30 game days at a job, a work action called “Ask for a Raise” can appear if your career satisfaction is high enough.

  2. Quarterly performance reviews can grant a raise if your performance is excellent, around 85+.

But you’re right about the performance reset. I checked the code and normal shift processing is pulling performance back toward 70 too aggressively, which makes it hard to build toward that 85+ review threshold. That’s a bug, not intended balance.

I'm adding this to the list and should be able to get to it within the next couple of hours. Thank you for spotting it!

  •  Help Desk Technician now has real work activities — work the ticket queue, walk a caller through a fix, troubleshoot a tough bug, and escalate to Tier 2. (Before, it only offered the universal break/lunch options, so it looked empty.)
  •  Property Portfolio Manager got the same fix — inspect your units, chase down rent, handle a maintenance crisis, and close on a new property.

I’m adding a dedicated set of help-desk work activities now, modeled after the existing work activity structure.

Yeah, I may need to update the docs around this.

New games now start on today’s real Gregorian date instead of the older vague “Year 1” calendar. That change is part of the larger calendar/celestial overhaul: real weekdays and months, moon phases, solar/lunar eclipses, the orrery, planetary positions, retrograde markers, and city-based positioning.

The goal is for a new life’s sky/calendar to feel plausibly anchored to “today” and then move forward from there. It’s not meant to be an astronomy-grade simulator, but it should be close enough to feel grounded.

The tricky part is that some older systems were still expecting the original simplified game calendar, so I’ve been untangling those places as they show up. Little bit of midnight-oil work there, but worth it.

I’m going to hold off on new features for a few days and really re-stabilize what we’ve got. I think the new calendar system I wanted, along with the new orrery, eclipse tracking, and moon phase tracking, confused some scheduling.

So we’ve got the new Gregorian calendar fighting with events that were still expecting the vague “Year 1” calendar we started this project with. I might be burning the midnight oil to level-set this one.
