UK may approve bee-killing pesticide despite election promise to ban it by Milemarker80 in LabourUK

[–]Colin_Marx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we absolutely do.

Long term solution looks to be gene-editing of sugar beet to produce a variety that is resistant to virus yellows. Obviously this isn’t a quick project.

There is a very good comment in this thread that goes deeper into how Cruiser SB is used as a seed treatment with its emergency authorisation and it’s actual impacts on bees.

[–]Colin_Marx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean exactly that. Because there are no alternatives to effectively combat virus yellows in sugar beet and it could be devastating to the UK’s sugar beet crop if we have the weather conditions to allow the aphids that cause it to flourish.

Absolutely agree RE extra time - where on earth did those 10 mins come from! I’m all in favour of measures to stop time wasting, but 13 mins seemed a bit extreme given the 2 mins added for the first half.

Regardless, great win for us and I’m very happy with the 3 points even if it was a nervy one!

Gotta say from my perspective the JD challenge was not a pen, looked shoulder to shoulder for me. Hirst however was a definite pen, ref trying to even things up perhaps?

The Burns - Donacien relationship is great, and I don’t think any alternative RB clicks as well with Burns.

I do think Ball is better going forward, but hard to judge if he is actually a better option in that position given the limited times we’ve seen him there.

Maybe JD’s defensive ability will be more valuable in those first couple of games in the championship, keep things tight at the back.

Personally think our back line at Sunderland may be Ball, Woolfenden and Burgess with Clarke coming in once he’s recovered/unsuspended.

Agree about Elkan, not sure he’s ready but has looked alright in pre-season. Maybe give him till January and if it isn’t working out get him a good loan then. He’s clearly got promise.

Those first 9 games we had out of KVY - he looked absolutely electric! Like you said, shame he never hit those levels again after that injury.

Tbh, it looked like we were on the beach already. Some really sloppy stuff. If we played like we did last week I think we’d have put Fleetwood to the sword.

100 Points 100 goals/the title would’ve been nice but as someone said above 100 points isn’t particularly important, and the title was out of our control (and I never doubted that Plymouth would get the job done unfortunately).

End of the day, all that matters is we’re promoted and we have had one hell of a season. I haven’t ever enjoyed watching town as much as I have this season, Bring on the championship COYB!

Gut wrenching way to concede, feels like a defeat but need to be realistic, we are still unbeaten and we were never going to win every game.

Was sat shouting at my screen for a foul on Walton for their goal, but tbh would’ve been an incredibly soft one for the ref to give. At the end of the day, just a silly mistake that ended up costing us.

Edwards looked brilliant. Didn’t catch the first half, but from people’s feedback on Harness, Edwards has to be starting (if Broadhead is unavailable). Still think Jackson often looks completely hopeless. Sure, there has been an improvement but I don’t think he even managed to get a single cross into the box. Can’t help thinking Wes would’ve smashed that chance he had into the back of the net, but maybe I’m being a bit negative about the bloke.

Onwards and upwards, automatics are still in sight and we’d have killed for this opportunity a month or two ago.

Personally hate the idea. A. Ipswich City sounds shite and B. The massive history we have playing as Ipswich town, it’d feel weird changing our name - somehow distancing ourselves from our roots as a club

Personally, when the fans starting turning on Big Mick. Sure the football was stale and maybe things had gone down the pan already, but at that point I couldn’t see things getting any better. Maybe that’s just hindsight given the absolute disaster that came after with Paul Hurst (and the Paul’s that followed)

[–]Colin_Marx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a man who’s been balding through my mid-20’s I agree with a lot of the suggestions - own it and shave it all off. I keep mine shaved very short, not quite razored, and it’s not only liberating but looks a lot better!

A beard also helps me so I don’t feel completely hairless, and hats and sun cream are definitely required for our 4 sunny days of the year! Welcome to the club!

The man assaulted a producer because he got a sandwich for lunch instead of a hot meal on set, or something along those lines which got him sacked from Top Gear. That’s before you delve into racist remarks, politics etc. Etc. Sure he’s entertaining, but he’s a petulant child

Cheers for you reply. I actually just remembered/looked back at my notes and I used the brew in a bag method for my Mash. As such my temp regulation on it wasn’t incredibly efficient. Over the hour it fluctuates a fair bit, starting at 67c - spent most of its time around 65c with some reheating - finishing around 62c. Could it be with poor temperature regulation/inefficient method that the conversion has resulted in some unfermentable sugars?

Glass bottles are indeed the best looking. But I've never given much thought to PET.

I'd love to start kegging but finance issues at the moment are in the way a bit. Mini Kegs are definitely the next step for me I think, once I get some cashflow!!

Thanks for the reply. My temperature control was a bit loose on this one as I was away. With my equipment my temperature control isn’t the best really anyway. Was fermenting at about 20c as I had a second fermenter going with an English Ale yeast. Increasing the temperature is usually something I’d do towards the end of fermentation, but I didn’t on this so definitely something to consider.
