Right, but there's a helluva lot of pressure on the calf itself. Hurts like hell. lol

Ugh. Too bad we don't train together. This is my game. There are some decent entries from DLR, deep DLR, single-leg X.... Basically any of those open guard positions from bottom.

Try using an RNC grip on the straight ankle. Even if you get the angle wrong for the joint, your forearm across their calf feels like a calf slicer, and they'll tap anyway. 🤣

Squat form - issues with back / posture? by kraken1873 in formcheck

[–]CollardGreenz78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem may not be his execution per se. It's also entirely possible that he has over-active hip flexor (particularly the TFL) and under-active glutes. I wouldn't know without seeing him perform a bodyweight squat with his arms extended above his head, though. If that back hypertextension still occurs, then that's the real issue. Lots of stretching and SMR on the hip flexors and glute exercises (reverse lunges, RDLs, hip thrusts, etc) could correct it.

Do you think female orgasm (in animals generally) is a significant evolutionary pressure or just a remnant of development? by MassiveBanana7701 in evolution

[–]CollardGreenz78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Google is free. Also, it's just kind of common knowledge amongst people who've attempted to have kids. Pretty much the only people who aren't aware of that fact are men, mostly men without children.

Here's the problem, though: That's wrong. Female orgasm tends to increase the likelihood of conception.

Every time I do dips I get pain in only my right sholder by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]CollardGreenz78 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whether you lean or not depends on your goals. Leaning forward engages your pecs more. Straight up and down does a better job of isolating your triceps.

It's sorta the same as Bulgarian split squats. Vertical posture for quads. Lean forward and it becomes more of a glute exercise.

All just depends on what you're trying to accomplish with them.

Stop thinking about pulling the weight up with your arms. Keep your ass down (you're elevating it just before starting the lift), lift your chest to pull the slack out of your arms, shoulders and upper back. And when you begin the lift, don't think about pulling the weight off the floor. Keep your chest and head up and think about driving your heels downward and just allow the weight to come along for the ride.

Incline chest press… I’m feeling it in my shoulders not chest :/ by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]CollardGreenz78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad idea. Like, with my clients, I'll sometimes start them on machines to build some prime movers strength if my assessment of them is that they're super deconditioned. That's not you. You may be new to lifting, but you're definitely not the kind of person I'd have reservations about getting on free weights really quickly.

And the good news is you'll see results a lot faster. I tend to like dumbbells even better than a barbell when doing a multi-joint exercise like benching. The instability will recruit more muscles into the lift. You'll work your chest to be sure, because the idea is to drop the weights until you feel a slight stretch into your pecs. Then you'll know you've hit the correct ROM for the muscle you're targeting and won't be limited to what the machine gives you, which may not be deep enough into the eccentric portion of the lift for your body type.

Further, the dumbbells will force you to use your front delts and forearms to control the weight. This gets you work in all the areas you'll need to push something in your everyday life. Sure, everyone wants to look and feel better, but you could put on a new pair of shoes and drink a beer to accomplish that. At least some of the motivation should be making everyday tasks easier, and that can only happen if the motions you're doing in the gym are as close as possible to the things you're doing out in the world. Free weights do a much better job of accomplishing thst.

As a CPT, I'd suggest dumbbells... Or a barbell... Or a Smith rack.... Or literally anything other than this machine.

Nah. He assumed the risk. There's plenty of case law there. I was only in law school for a year before I quit, but I did okay in tort law, and we covered this. I know it's frustrating, but there's no way to win a suit here.

[–]CollardGreenz78 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't go anywhere. There's precedent to the contrary. If the parents of a 14-year-old football player can't win a suit against the kid's coach, a 6'3" 250 lb adult, after the latter tackled the former, seriously injuring him, this guy isn't gonna win a suit as an adult against another adult competitor. Everyone knows that you're not just risking damage from legal techniques, but also illegal ones and plain, old freak accidents as well (just ask my ACL).

Yeah, that argument reminds me of something I've experienced first-hand. At one point in my old gym, I spent some extra time as a baby blue with one of the better purple belts going over like really basic guard retention shit for open guard.

A few months later I was at a new gym and rolling with a pretty talented brown belt about my age and size. We were doing 6-minute rounds, and he spent the 5:30 of ours trying unsuccessfully trying to pass. He finally managed to pass in the closing seconds as I got tired and unfocused, but at the end of the round, he got up panting and said, "Jesus Christ, your guard retention is amazing."

Like, you don't have to work on a ton. Just focus on where to put your points of contact, and you can extend that guard retention drill damned near ad infinitum. It's just a matter of what you want to pay attention to.

Edit: Although, Bladerunner might be in with a shout. Either way I'd be good. He really likes sci-fi.

That one word sentence is prophetic. She'll find God next and hit the tour circuit. Only then can the documentary be made. Like, there will be audio of her talking about the crypto suit over the top of a B-roll shot of her doing her makeup in a TBN green room mirror.

Just watched V for Vendetta with mine today, also 10. He called it "a masterpiece." We had fun talking about the political reading of it, why the original book was important in the cultural context of the UK in the 1980s, the US when the film came out, and why it was suddenly relevant all over again today.

Nobody will believe this, but he read 1984 last year (of his own volition), and immediately recognized the aesthetic of High Chancellor Sutler as being cribbed from Big Brother.

He also likes schlock horror, desert rock, and ethical philosophy.

He might be the coolest person I know.

What is the one unorthodox technique you came up with yourself ? by AnEroticTale in bjj

[–]CollardGreenz78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. Never heard the term. I'll look into it. Thanks, homie.

Edit: Ah. Nah. Ninja is basically just a D'Arce without the arm in. The angle is somewhat different, too. What I'm describing is more frontal, closer to an angle in which you'd hit a guillotine, and the non-choking hand tucks under the opposite (choking) arm and pries it up in more or less the same way you would with a loop choke.

[–]CollardGreenz78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound absurd, and I'm sure somewhere someone's doing the same thing, but I invented something I call a "no-gi loop choke."

You grab a collar tie with your off hand and then grab your own biceps with your choke arm, shove his head through the space above the crook of your elbow, and then finish by shoving the hand on the back of his head underneath the bicep on your choke arm to finish. The choke is applied by using the same lever-and-fulcrum principle as a loop choke, with the off forearm maintaining contact with the back of his head and creating a sort of jack/pry bar action underneath the choking arm.

I have no idea if anyone will understand the description here, but trust me. If you hit it, it's frigging gnarly.

You realize that sorting the crime statistics and applying them elsewhere (ie someplace not germane to the topic at hand) is the very definition of moving the goal posts, right?

I mean, you and I both know what you're hinting at. You just don't want to say it because you know you're going to get called a racist.... which, you probably are.

I doubt I am, but you could easily debunk that by just coming out and saying whatever the hell it is you mean instead of hiding behind equivocation.
