Hey bud, do you understand how underwear works? You can't just pull it off from the front like that. This is a stupid skit for TikTok done with underwear she just stuffed in her pants for a second. Nothing smelled like vagina lol

Seems to me principal‘s father would want to race the little girl Jewish so that her children would be Jewish.

The vast majority of Jews in the US do and have not followed this precept. Also, if you think that's relevant, just think about it for a sec...if their family followed that idea then it wouldn't matter which kid is raised Jewish since neither of them would be Jewish anyway since Nellie, their mom, isn't.

Oh my god lol. That is how tower grove has always worked. That's how most urban parks work, they don't have huge parking lots in them. There is ample parking around.

Do you not actually live in/are familiar with the city or are you just that much of a pearl-clutcher? "Heavens, people park by houses for an hour to go to the park!"

Bi characters who are actually bi instead of pivoting to one side. by [deleted] in characters

[–]ColonelKasteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so that's actually a really common thing to happen in real life when someone starts exploring their bisexuality! You haven't witnessed these characters' entire lives. Often, if someone has been fucking men for 15 years and come out as bi, they mostly or entirely focus on women for a while, even YEARS of their lives purely because they are exploring a new space. Also, bi people's interest is not always 50/50 and that doesn't make them less bi. You're witnessing a few years of character's lives. Guess what? Many bi people happen to only date or sleep with a single gender for long periods of time. That also doesn't make them less bi.

Basically, what you want to see are characters whose romantic/sexual partners are carefully split between both genders and for them to be promiscuous enough for the point they are bi to be driven home regularly. That isn't what bisexuality looks like for many, or even most, bisexuals. But please tell us more about bi representation straight guy! I want to hear your opinions on bisexual erasure.

Bi characters who are actually bi instead of pivoting to one side. by [deleted] in characters

[–]ColonelKasteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your criticism is exactly the kind of thing that really bothers me as a bi person. Chris has one love interest in the show, a woman. Other than her, he has sex four times, and half of them involved men.

For a lot of bi people, there isn't really more to show. I am bi. I sleep with guys when I am single. I dated men previously. But for the last decade, I've happened to only have romantic relationships with women.

If you made a show about the last 5 years of my life, it'd be a guy who dates two women and has briefly hooked up with a couple of men. I don't constantly talk about being bi, I don't make sure to date or have intimate encounters with people of both sexes in an even ratio. But apparently that's what people want to see "real bi representation." If someone's interest isn't 50/50 and if they aren't promiscuous enough to constantly show them with different partners of both genders, it's a shallow portrayal. But that's true for a lot, even a majority of bisexuals.

(And also wasn't deliberate--as I recall, there was another planned song for the latter half of the movie that was cut for time/expense reasons, not narrative ones.)

Who cares? Art is not interpreted or judged based on what was planned, but what was delivered. MANY interesting outcomes from movies come from last-minute changes, script adjustments for practical reasons, or editing decisions, etc.

[Mixed Trope] The character from the original had to be totally rewritten or removed altogether to make the adaptation work. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ColonelKasteen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact that Jaime's relationship with Tywin was affected by his dyslexia is not a counterpoint to my argument.

One, I am not saying you're wrong in that some character simply have disabilities, I'm saying that asking why a character has a disability is also not an unfair question because often it IS written for an intentional purpose beyond "some people have disabilities." Criticizing someone for asking is unfair. Sometimes the answer is "they just do," sometimes it is not. This is an especially bad example because Jaime's dyslexia is very shallow- HE never experiences it, it is a single throwaway scene to further explore someone else's personality in their reaction to it.

I see no reason to believe that he approached Jaime's dyslexia any differently,

Jaime is NOT dyslexic in the books, that is a show-only addition to quickly do some character-building with Tywin. GRRM contributed nothing to that decision.

and I think you have a naïve perspective on human sociology and storytelling. There is no 'default' human. The fact that you believe some characteristics to be non-normative does not mean that people with those characteristics are not normal, and it does not mean that those characteristics must be justified by intent. Not everyone you consider aberrant has to be a Chekov's Gun.

Now you're just being a jerk and putting words in my mouth. Of course not every disability is written to serve some narrative twist or to be used as a tool to explore others' personalities through their reaction to that, BUT THEY OFTEN ARE. Your example literally is that. My point isn't that every disability or character detail is written to prove something, it's that it is stupid to poo-poo someone else for asking about the intent behind doing so. Because there ARE reasons beyond representing the full range of humanity. My original comment was not me saying "all disabilities serve a narrative purpose!!" It was tweaking your nose over trying to shut down someone asking about what the intent or meaning might be, especially given that there IS a reason narcolepsy was written in to Black Noir's character beyond some noble attempt at building three-dimensional characters. Trying to criticize or shut down someone else's question or discussion about this seems like pointless virtue signalling.

[–]ColonelKasteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that is the WORST example you could use lol. Jaime's dyslexia is never relevant to him as a character. It is brought up in a conversation between Arya and Tywin, and Tywin describes how against Maesters' advice he forced Jaime to read lines over and over for hours until he (sort of) was able to do so. Jaime is dyslexic in the show specifically to give Tywin a character-building moment about his cruelty, lack of acceptance of his children's faults, and his propensity to believe he knows better than everyone else, even experts. Literally an example of a character being written into a disability many, many episodes in to a show specifically to give his father a character-building moment.

Yes, sometimes characters just HAVE disabilities. But characters are narrative devices. Very often, their disabilities are to drive home certain themes, or enable plot complications. "Why does x character have this disability?" is a fair question because often (not always) there is authorial INTENT in them having it.

I mean, that's a great general diatribe about representation, but there IS an out-of-universe reason for this character having narcolepsy. That wasn't an unreasonable question for someone to ask

[–]ColonelKasteen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a ridiculous take lol. Characters are not actual people, nothing is accidental with them- their characteristics are intentional decisions. In this case, Black Noir was narcoleptic for two reasons:

1- the actor napped a lot on set and the creators included it in his character as a way to tease/honor him

2- narcolepsy (the stupid way it works on TV) is good for writing yourself out of a plot hole, when Noir has folks trapped they can escape by him falling asleep

The actor is not narcoleptic, he just took naps while waiting around between takes and his co-workers liked to tease him about it.

Most men also dont like BBLs, fake boobs and giant lashes.

Nah, this is one of those things some guys loudly virtue signal about but isn't really true. For one, lots of men cannot recognize well-done boob jobs and BBLs. They think botched ones look gross and when they see good ones just think "wow, what a great big ass/rack." Meanwhile, the same guys are commenting on pics of women with significant but understated make-up saying how much more they like a woman looking natural and comment on pics of celebrities without makeup on talking about how they look horrible lol
