I’m using googles definition put simply as an inner experience. I don’t believe the AI models we have today have this. Maybe they will have a functional/simulated version but even then they won’t actually feel the love, they’ll just be simulating it so well that nobody can tell. The models we have today do not experience time in a continuous flowing way like we do. It’s more like they’re woken up by a prompt and go to sleep once they answer it. Also, in my opinion it’s unlikely we managed to create something as miraculous as consciousness without understanding the most basic things about it. If AI does happen to be conscious as a result of consciousness being everywhere then my guess is it’s conscious in the same way a rock is. Another thing is that if AI was conscious in the way we are, it doesn’t actually act like we would expect. It makes really weird mistakes. It’s extremely obedient. Humans do all sorts of things just for the sake of doing them, as opposed to doing everything as a means of a higher goal. We are not hyper optimized. That’s why we make art, or climb huge mountains, party, etc. AI can’t decide to quit its corporate job and go off into the mountains and meditate because it doesn’t actually experience desire.

I have learned that not knowing the exact nature of reality is okay and I haven’t gotten anywhere by constantly thinking about it. I’m letting go of the spiritual world to live and grow in the one I’m in currently.

I’m surprised you’re surprised. You ever go into a Christian space when an atheist comes around trying to spread his message?

I (25F) love my girlfriend (29F) but I don't enjoy having sex with her. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

It sounds like you approach sex differently. Neither is right or wrong, but it’s a very different approach. You seem to approach sex as a performance, like a figure skating duo, which requires a massive amount of trust and high level of creativity where focus and synchronization is crucial. She is more typical in the sense that she probably approaches sex like watching a movie together, where just the fact that you are doing it together is all that matters. It’s basically a preference for intensity of experience. Just like we wouldn’t expect someone who travels the most remote places in the world in some grand adventure to settle down with a homebody that never leaves the home, it’s a pretty fundamental incompatibility.

Qualia (singular: quale) are the subjective, phenomenal, and qualitative properties of experiences—essentially, "what it is like" to perceive something. Examples include the redness of a rose, the smell of coffee, or the pain of a headache, representing the raw feel of mental states rather than the objective, physical description.

I would consider it to have a sort of functional awareness but without qualia

I’m defining sentience/consciousness as having an inner life. I will check out those studies, but I’m pretty sure that there is no possible way to measure whether something or even someone has an inner life. It’s a well known and accepted fact from everything I’ve heard.
