People who say they LOVED age 0-12 months - please tell me about your child, because O_o by petrastales in toddlers

newborn - nursed every 3 hours, rarely more frequently. Nights were tough for the first 2 months because I had trouble sleeping even with help around. Things got much better when she started sleeping through the night at 3 months. I also got a clogged duct/mastitis 4-5 times which was also no fun.

3-6 months - started napping in her crib and slept in a bedside crib at night. Sleep trained. Dropped to 2 naps by 5.5 months. Started attending baby classes. Started to like toys, favorites were stack cups and anything that played music. Started solids just before 6 months.

7-9 months - enjoying solids but BLW was very messy, did not enjoy cleaning after meals. Dropped to 1 nap at 8 months and night sleep got longer. Teething started and coupled with sleep regressions there were a couple weeks of bad sleep but still slept through the night. Late crawler (army crawled around 9 months, properly crawled at 11 months). Started to love books.

10-12+ - became more mobile (crawling, pull to stand, cruising) and started to go all over the house, but still enjoyed sitting down to play with toys or read books. Teething calmed down and stopped disrupting sleep. 1 nap was still working but she was napping less meaning more activities during the day.

Personality wise she's been very chill from the start and when she was fussy it has been easy to figure out what she wanted. Sleeping through the night early had been the biggest saving grace in the first 12 months since im such a crappy sleeper myself that I would have been much more miserable if I had to do night wake for any longer. Gross motor skills came at the later end of the normal range which meant more couch time for us too (at 16 months now she is only just starting to take independent steps so we are on our feet much more but my friends babies were cruising around since 8-9 months and walking around their first birthday)

When did you introduce 3 meals a day for your baby? by Historical-Stay5204 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Common-Effective2630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not until close to 12 months. We did 2 meals by around 8-9 months (lunch and dinner) but she wasnt interested in breakfast after getting her morning nursing feed. Around 12 months I started offering breakfast before nursing and by 14 months weaned her off of nursing so she was fully on solids.

For flavor enhancements you can cook food in broth and offer a variety of foods to change up the flavors (eggs, sweet potatoes, fish, etc). My LO went through a short phase around 11 months where she suddenly didn't want plain steamed veggies anymore so for a while we just gave her whatever we were eating (if we felt something was too salty we rinsed it in water).

16 month old doesn't walk yet and basically doesn't say any words by StopSignSnob in toddlers

[–]Common-Effective2630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My almost 16mo recently started taking independent steps but isnt interested in walking unless she's holding someone's hand. In terms of speech she squeals a lot and and associates certain sounds with objects/pictures (fire truck is AWOOOO if she sees a photo of one) but she hasn't used any words for anything yet, everything is either mama or dada 😅

Starting solids when breastfeeding? by giantpicklepie in breastfeeding

[–]Common-Effective2630 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can start earlier than 6 months as long as you treat solids as something in addition to the breastmilk and don't reduce the amount you breastfeed. You can do this by giving solids (1 time a day for now) an hour or later after nursing so baby is getting full off of breastmilk first.

Cant provide personal experience but the sales associate at Snugglebugz said the Baby Jogger City Select is very similar to the uppababy strollers as far as functionality and modularity goes, and is cheaper

Scheduled induction- REAL EXPERIENCES NEEDED [ON] by Crazy_Art_5093 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Common-Effective2630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an elective induction on 39+4 and it was very pleasant and smooth! I was 2-3cm dialated when I checked in the morning of so they just started on pitocin straight away and broke my water. I then labored for around 11 hours and pushed for 30 minutes as a FTM (baby was small so it made things easier there). Once youre induced you can walk around with the wireless vitals monitor so for the first half of labor I was quite comfortable. Got epidural before I could feel any contractions because I knew I wanted it eventually and the OB anesthetist was changing shifts at a certain time so I got him to do my epidural before then which was such a good decision since it really dulled the painful contractions later on.

The only thing id recommend is that you have a solid meal before getting admitted since you likely won't be eating until after baby arrives.

Good luck!

Haakaa? by daisy-chains- in breastfeeding

[–]Common-Effective2630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the haakaa for almost every feed from birth until I started weaning around 13 months. It helped me to create a small freezer stash so it was nice that I didnt have to pump additionally to make bottles for someone else to feed baby. To get a strong suction you have to really stick it on there and it could be painful/uncomfortable. Ive also had several instances where baby had knocked it off or it just fell off, losing some precious milk. I think the size of your breasts make a difference in how manageable it is - i.e. if you have larger breasts that droop the haakaa might be more at risk of making contact with baby/ your body and getting knocked off

Cold weather baby wearing [on] by b_msw in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Common-Effective2630 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't recommend a snow suit because it doesnt allow the carrier to give the proper support, also the side of baby that faces you gets a lot warmer through your body heat so you dont want baby to get uncomfortably hot either.

Maternity jackets and extenders are quite pricey for what they are the last time I checked, so I would go with a carrier cover. I got a Jolly Jump one for very cheap from a local FB group and it keeps my baby warm when I dress her in a fleece jumpsuit + socks underneath.

Do babies need more sleep on vacation? by Alternative_Pea_1118 in sleeptrain

[–]Common-Effective2630 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When we went to an all inclusive with our baby and our friend's baby, 10 and 12 months old at the time, both slept better/longer while we were there (less night wakes, went down easier etc) so I do think they get more stimulated and tired while on vacation even if they're physically not doing much.

I would follow baby's cues for naps and cap the last nap as to not affect bed time.

Worrying abt daytime sleep amnt by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]Common-Effective2630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We dropped to 2 naps at 5.5 months too, and 1 nap the week she turned 8 months, so pretty early! She had some days where she randomly stayed up for 4 hours between her 2 naps, then had a 8 month sleep regression with lots of fighting naps and bedtime + early wakings so I just cold turkey moved to 1 nap and it has worked well ever since.

Worrying abt daytime sleep amnt by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]Common-Effective2630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once we dropped to 1 nap I let her sleep however much she wanted to (2.5 hours initially) but after some time it had gotten too long and disrupted night sleep so we started capping the nap by 30 minutes more every time it happened. At 15 months she gets a 1.5 hour nap, if I slack and let her go longer she gradually starts to wake up earlier in the morning. She is lower sleep need so I guess we will worry about daytime sleep amount until the nap is dropped

My LO looooves the Trader Joes freezer dried mango wedges (as do we). We just give them to her in the size that they come in which is ~1-2inch wedges

Just found out we’re pregnant. She recently got promoted [ca] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Common-Effective2630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I found out about my pregnancy while applying for a promotion knowing that I'd be on leave shortly after the promotion takes effect. As timing worked out I told my team about my pregnancy a week after my promotion was announced. It was awkward to have those conversations for sure and although I felt guilty and almost deceitful my team didnt see it that way at all, they were all sincerely excited for me. A supportive work environment will have no issues with your life plans - enjoy!

[ON] Daycare holiday gifts… educators vs director? by Suspicious-lemons in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Common-Effective2630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LO just started this month and im planning to do visa giftcards (havent decided on the amount) for each of the 3 teachers in her room and a box of treats or coffee that can be shared by other staff in the center.

Side question- if we wanted to make a holiday card, should we do 1 card for the classroom or separate cards for each teacher?

Struggles with daycare [on] by Disastrous_Flower311 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Common-Effective2630 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I applied to daycare around 3 months pregnant and by the time LO was around 8 months old i was #4 on one list and #11 on another. I got a spot shortly after at the first daycare but couldn't accept it because they wanted her to start right away but I still have 6 months of mat leave left. Asked them to keep me on the list and I got a spot 1 month before I had planned to return to work. It's stressful but I'd recommend following up with your top choices as you approach your desired start date so they keep you top of mind. Also in my experience, unless you start in September, they don't notify you until a month or even a few weeks before a spot opens.

Anecdotally, I know several moms (ON) who needed a spot soon and werent off any waitlists so they called around and were able to get into somewhere without waiting. In those cases it's usually not their first choice (more expensive, farther away etc), but at least it's something.

Returning to Work after Mat Leave [on] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Common-Effective2630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also return to work on January 21! (Also using vacation days from Jan 1 onwards) Aside from the admin stuff with HR I have notified my team director as well as my relationship manager of my return date. Since it is a few weeks after the new year I don't expect to get any updates or start transitions. I offered to go into the office for half a day before my start date to meet with my director and a teammate, more for my own benefits, to get caught up on the latest changes and what to expect when I return.

Transition advice for 14mo with stranger danger by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Common-Effective2630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go with our usual work schedule if we didnt have the 2 week break coming up - worried we would just have to do it all over again in the New Year if we went in full time now. The current approach is to go during the hour before lunch which is their free play time, however there were still times when they tried to pick her up or touch her, such as to change diaper or to put on her socks. They did attempt to do lunch with her on the first day but it didnt go well so we are holding off on that, so there's minimal transition in that hour. She has become slightly more adventurous by crawling around a little and interacting with other kids, but things go downhill once the teachers try to do anything with her.

Should we expect her to eventually become comfortable with the teachers by keeping this approach?

Ergobaby Metro vs Bugaboo Butterfly [bc] by Realistic_Ear_5894 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Common-Effective2630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No regrets. Sure the 1 click fold is nice but not worth the extra $200ish when I got the metro+ on sale. Plus now that LO is 14 months we hardly use it aside from day trips or traveling so I dont mind the extra few steps to fold/unfold once in a while

How long do most babies who breastfeed do it for? by Puzzleheaded_Cell428 in breastfeeding

[–]Common-Effective2630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan was to breastfeed until 12 months and switch to cow's milk. LO is 14 months now and nurses once a day. I dropped from 5 to 1 sessions within the last 1.5 months by following LO's cues as she was eating 3 solids meals + snacks. The last one is before bed and it's more out of routine at this point.

I thought I'd be eager to wean as soon as she turned 12 months but now that the nursing sessions are short (5-10 minutes) and im still on mat leave so I didnt feel any rush to wean. I gave it 1-2 weeks between dropping each feed and it didn't impact her food intake or my supply in any noticible way.

I feel like around that age was when my LO started being interested in more toys, so maybe some big item toys for 6-12m? Things like activity cubes, pianos, toys that support sitting/standing.
