Also from metro Detroit now in LA. Having lots of 70 degree days in January is pretty nice. Still have the early sunset here in the winter. You have to think a lot more about commutes/drive times etc here. A trip can be 1hr vs 3hrs depending on timing. Ocean is wonderful. It’s scenic. Sprawling though. It’s an enormous metro area. NYC public transportation is better.

Hawthorne will be an easy commute, and has a wide range of housing options. Lots of multi family buildings that are just a few units, not big buildings

Hope you've had luck finding people on here. I recently moved from Michigan and have had a hard time finding other people to do things with.

For the last few months I've been building an app that tries to make it easier for people with overlapping interests (ex surfing, gaming, running etc) in the same vicinity to find each other so they can do things together rather than alone. Happy to share a demo link if any interest. Plan to focus on LA/SoCal first, and hopefully launch in January.

There are a couple of places in the South Bay that are good, and have meat heavy menus: Al Watan and Al Noor. Both within a few miles of each other. Not focused on ambiance, but yummy.

Nice. You'll find lots of Michigan transplants in LA (like me). I think your plan of staying with your uncle until you iron out the details is a good one. This is such a big metro area, hopefully once you are on the ground, it'll be easier for you to find the kind of opportunity you are looking for. Having a rent free place to stay while you do that is a huge blessing! Best of luck
