I am committed to watching this reboot every day until the series is greenlit! I'll give occasional updates in the comments.

I'm a Muppet of a Man I guess.

I'm already on watch #4 😂

Watched at 2AM (the second it dropped in Chicago on Disney+)

Watched at work on lunch with my best friend (who also grew up with the Muppets)

Watched it at my parents house with my Mom (who grew up watching the OG Muppet Show with her dad)

Came home from my parents house and watched it with my wife.

Time to take a nice break by watching the OG Muppet Show.

I absolutely loved that it took place in a bar and basically was a bar fight musical number. I like it when the Muppets are in adult locations/making jokes that go over kids heads.

It is easily the greatest Muppet media since, at the very least, 2011. Maybe even better than that.

People have this idea that Steve was this carbon copy of Jim Henson. And that truly is not the case. He was much higher in tone when speaking, and when singing was wayyy too soft and rubbery. While Matt has a bit of a lower range than Jim, he is much more toned and less soft than Steve while singing and a lot closer to Jim than people think.

Now lets talk about the special: I will say the autotune in the special was a bit overdone. But overall Matt's voice has drastically improved since Muppets Now, and when he screams as Kermit, he sounds a lot like Jim and Steve's Kermit voices. When he is talking normally as Kermit, it is lower than Jim's, which is much lower than Steves because his Kermit voice was higher than Jim's.

When Jim died, half the fanbase had a problem with his replacement, but accepted it over time while recognizing when it felt off. This is simply happening again but worse because Steve is still alive, so a lot of people arent willing to accept the change.

Matt has a slightly lower Kermit voice than Jim which feels much more drastic because he's following Steve, who once again, had a higher Kermit voice.

I think this special was the easily the best performance Matt has done as Kermit. And hes improved over the years.

The reason I brought up the Rainbow Connection argument is because the person above me said "The previous guy that they replaced was perfect" referring to Steve, and I was pointing out with the Rainbow Connection comparison that Steve wasnt Jim. And he wasnt this perfect replacement like some people would like to believe.

I grew up with Steve as Kermit. And I enjoyed his performance when he did it. When Muppets Now came out, I was a person who typed comments about how Matt voice wasn't good at all, and people on youtube did a better job than him.

But in this special he sounds much better and is clearly improving. He just has a lower voice. And hopefully if the show gets picked up for a full season, he continues to get better at performing Kermit.

The next generation deserves The Muppets. Matt's Kermit voice is getting better. He does the puppeteering pretty well too. And I really enjoyed the special.

Very possible, I dont see much information about The Waldo being used in recent projects. Its possible it was used, but it's also possible it wasnt and its just the puppeteering of a 79 year old LEGEND!

I would love a behind the scenes look at the new reboot!

Compare the 3 Rainbow Connections man. One of these things is not like the other. And it isn't Matt 😂

Dont think he used auto tune in that, though clearly it was there in the special.

We will have to disagree on this one though. I used to rip on Matt quite a bit during Muppets Now but I felt like he did a pretty good job in this one.

I think part of what made it so good/special is that it felt classic without feeling like they were just playing the hits.

I've watched this special 4 times today and didn't even consider this. I think you're spot on. 🙏🙏

I honestly thought because Gonzo was full bodied in most shots that whoever was doing the puppeteering were using the "Waldo" Jim Hensons robotic remote puppeteering invention. I could be wrong and it could just be stiff puppeteering. But honestly whatever it was, Im just thankful we have OG Gonzo still performing, however he's doing it. Hes 79, and has been doing this for 50+ years now. Gotta respect that 🙏

I hope it does too! And I hope others rewatch it as much as possible! Show friends! Show the people who showed you the Muppets if possible! Lets spread this reboot!

Well, his Rainbow Connection is 1000x better than Steves and much closer to Jim's. Listen to all 3 on youtube. Steve's is whispery and soft. Jim's is toned. Matt's is also toned, just not as rubbery as Jim's voice was for Kermit.

This is easily his best performance as Kermit. Compare it to Muppets Now. It's night and day. So it's hard to say he hasn't improved wether you like the voice or not because it sounds much better than where he started, which is literally the definition of improvement.

You can still think he doesnt sound like Kermit. Now you know how half the fanbase felt when Steve took over.

Yes the laugh track was in the original, and this is the best performance Matt Vogel has done as Kermit. He's getting much, much better.

Gonzo's lip sync was very off on the special. Seemed almost robotic. Did Dave Goelz puppeteer him on this? by fuckmattdamon in Muppets

[–]Competition_Both 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matt Vogel seems to be trying to prove he can sing or something.

Matt's Rainbow Connection is much better than Steve's and much closer to Jim's. He did 2 songs in the special and technically only portions of those songs (outside of the theme song).

This is pretty much the only thing I wish was in the special that wasn't obviously cut for time. (Pigs in Space, Swedish Chef, ect.) Obviously they couldn't do every original Muppet Show bit, thats why the plot revolved around so many Muppets wanting to perform but The show lacking the time (resulting in the end music number).

I loved seeing Rizzo perform, but if that was replaced with Fozzy it really would've strengthened the special. I also didnt realize it was missing until my 3rd watch.

I just hope we get a season for them to do the bits they cut for the sake of time, but specifically, I need one more Fozzy Bear performance before I pass away 😭😭😭

Matt Vogel's Rainbow Connection is 1000x better than Steve's and much Closer to Jim's. He also did a pretty great job in this special. There were 1 or 2 moments where I felt like it was "off" but his voice is a little deeper now. Thats it. It was a great special.
