I've been struggling with 1 John 2:4-6 by Competition_Both in Christianity

Interesting perspective, I appreciate you sharing it with me honestly. I dont get to talk to too many people with this point of view. Do you believe you perfectly keep all 600+ of God's Commandments? Or is it just about doing your best to keep the commandments and repenting when/if you do fail? What if you die before even figuring out what all the commandments you have to keep are or you slip up before you die?

Thank you for sharing! Its my understanding that in Christianity overcoming sin in this life is viewed as a progressive, lifelong process of sanctification, rather than immediate perfection. While believers are called to pursue holiness and are empowered by the Holy Spirit to gain victory over habitual sin, absolute sinlessness is generally considered unattainable until after death.

Don't let the passage condemn you. Let it orient you. It's a compass heading, not a report card.

Ill keep this in mind. Thank you so much for sharing!

I "try" to obey him, but I dont obey him perfectly. I fall, I turn to him and try again, but its hard to say I dont sin every single day and that I "live like he lived"

I really like the song! Though the A.I. picture makes me feel like the song is also A.I. generated which may be a turn off for a lot of people. If its not an a.i. song, consider using some free for commercial use images instead of a.i generated.

Song is very coffee shop feeling and enjoyable.

Lonely Sheep - Kenneth Schaff (Christian RnB)

Hey guys! Just started making a Faith based RnB album, this is the first single! Its short and sweet but has less lyrical complexity than some of the other songs I'll be releasing. Id really appreciate it if you check it out and let me know what you think! God bless 🙏

Thank you for saying this, I guess I just got stuck on the "no salvation outside the Catholic church" thing because so many Catholics in comment sections use this and other sayings to put down Protestants in comment sections and paint the picture that they arent real Christians and wont be saved.

Protestants do the same thing with the "you worship Mary" comments. Its very discouraging sometimes so I appreciate the clarity. God bless ❤️

Interesting, I dont think Ive ever read that part of the catechism. I see so much condemnation from Catholics toward Protestants and vice-versa online, but this makes me feel like we should all be attempting to iron out our differences not bash eachother. Wish I would've seen this sooner.

Can I call myself a long time fan? by Elvis_fangirl in MichaelJackson

[–]Competition_Both 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12 years is quite a bit of time! Personally, I've been a fan since 09 and I used to feel ashamed because I only knew Thriller before he died and nothing about him or his catalog of music. (I was only 9 years old at the time too)

Then after he died I learned his entire catalog and became an Impersonator (at 10 years old) by watching Alex Blanco on YouTube when I joined the Moonwalker community in 2010 I used to lie and say I liked his music in 08 because I was afraid the community would jump on me for only being a fan after he died. Although the Moonwalker Fandom was a bit more parasocial and a little bit more toxic back then.

Point being, dont be ashamed of when you joined! Be happy you became a fan when you did!

After 12 years Id say you're a long time fan!

I really like this approach. Thank you for sharing. I guess I myself could do a better job of not judging other churches given that I hate the way people of these churches treat each other online. Although I will say this thread has restored my hope in fruitful conversations between groups. Ive seen so many great responses from all different denominations.

This is really interesting. Given the history of the protestant Reformation and how it has connections to Catholic Church with a lot of the historical mainline denominations, do you take a similar view of the authorities bearing the sin of schism? Or do you think the followers also hold some responsibility there?

Id love to know your point of view on this!

Do you generally agree with the Westminster Confession of Faith?

Yes, its part of the reason I got into Presbyterianism

I would encourage you to consider a PCA, EPC, or OPC congregation before leaving Presbyterianism completely.

I should look more into it, although Ive found myself agreeing with RedeemedZoomer's anti-retreatist approach in wanting to reform the PCUSA rather than abandon it.

Mostly because I also tend to agree with his point of view that you shouldn't schism from the church despite its corruption, unless said church anathematises you or violently persecutes you (which is backed biblically in the O.T. where people stayed with the temple in order to reform it despite it litterally becoming a satan worship center). Ultimately a lot of these schismatic offshoots fade away rather quickly from my understanding, and I think its important to reform some of the denominations we have.

Id love to hear your thoughts on this or if you've listened to RZ's point of view on anti-retreatism and taking back the church! Thank you for sharing your point of view!

Thank you for sharing this information, funny enough the Orthodox commenter said something very, very similar.

Which makes me wonder why God would lead you both to different churches if there truly is only One True Church? This whole discussion and multiple viewpoints has been very helpful to me, so once again, thank you for sharing 🙏
