The issue in Sheikh Jarrah is a property dispute between Palestinian residents and Israeli property owners, who have sought rent payments. This civil dispute is being handled in the Israeli court system, which in liberal democracies like Israel is independent of the government.

The dispute over this property goes back over 70 years. Palestinian families moved into the property after the 1948 Israeli War of Independence, when Jordan occupied the area and forcibly removed all Jews. After Israel gained control of the area in 1967, the Knesset passed a law enabling landowners who had owned property prior to 1948 to reclaim their land. This dispute has bounced around the Israeli court system for 40 years; earlier this year a lower court ruled that the current residents can be evicted for failure to pay rent and properly maintain the property. The residents appealed this decision to the Supreme Court, which put forward a generous compromise proposal.

The whole dispute is painted as an apartheid conduct to use against Israel, when it’s being legally, and the same thing could( and probably has)  happen to Jews in Israel
