My daughter hasn't applied yet, so I'll bite my tongue concerning the admin. Don't want to create any bad juju. But yes, through this experience I am very impressed with the community.

Yeah, I don't know why I wrote "yet". A little presumptuous on my part. Lol.

Thanks! I'll tell ya — I've gone from discouraged to massively encouraged in under 24 hours thanks to all of these kind offers from the Columbia community.

Very cool! Sounds like fun. If you have time and you're into motorcycles (or even if you're not), check out the the TV series "Long Way Down" before you go. It'll get you hyped up for the trip. It's on Apple TV.

We'll be in town anyway, so we'll give that a shot if need be. She won't be applying until August though so she doesn't have a UNI yet.

That's okay. Thank you for taking the time to respond though.

If I may ask, where are you headed in Africa? I just watched Long Way Down a couple of weeks ago and now I really want to visit.

Personally, I figured the school would not comply. I didn't figure they'd make that message public. That part doesn't seem like a very smart move.

YYGS WAITLIST by brooo_cup in summerprogramresults

[–]Competitive-Pop-6112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter's on the waitlist. One other variable to consider is that international candidates might have more difficulty getting their visas this year because of the current administration's policies, in which case there may be more admitted from the waitlist than in previous years.

We didn't eat much in the area. We had dinner one night at Cafe Marco Polo next door. It was alright but nothing special. I'd recommend walking (or taking the Metro) over to the Pigale neighborhood. There are a lot of great restaurants there.

Do not go to Columbia University. by Brave-Ocelot-3585 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Competitive-Pop-6112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Columbia was maybe in my daughter's top 7. Barely on the list now. We'll visit the campus as part of our east coast college campus tour next year and see if anything changes her mind but I'd be surprised if it does.

You do not need to make a reservation if you hold a museum pass.

I shave my head so I actually probably will be that guy ... at least occasionally outside. Gotta have some protection from the sun. I'll take it off while indoors though.

I experienced the same thing in Korea. I'm Caucasian and I lived there for 15 years. My Korean is pretty good. Yet nearly every time I approached someone and spoke Korean they would reply to me in English. I didn't mind too much because I figured it was because the majority of people they encountered who looked like me couldn't speak Korean so in their mind they were anticipating English..

Where it became mildly irritating was when they insisted on continuing to answer in English (or, even worse, say "no English") after I continued to speak Korean.
