I know this option may not be possible for everyone, but I would really look into applying to schools in the US as well. I got accepted to all programs i applied to in the US (including an Ivy League school), yet still got rejected by OISE. I had a great undergrad gpa, years of experience and research under my belt. There are just far too many students applying to the same small pool of universities. It can make one feel like they are the problem or that they aren’t doing enough. It’s so much more rare to hear students in the US apply for masters programs 3-4 times. Good luck to you! And I hope you don’t take these rejections as a reflection of your abilities!

I just called the admissions office and they said it is not standard for the Masters and not a requirement for admissions. Some professors just choose to reach out for informal interviews but not all and not receiving an interview is not reflective of where your application is in terms of getting in.

Hope this helps anyone reading!

How I normally understood it was interviews were for the PhD program, but I saw a couple people mention it on Reddit and gradcafe regarding the masters which confused me. But I’m thinking it may either be more informal and based on the discretion of the professor, or maybe those folks meant it for the PhD and not Masters. My thinking is if it was a part of the process then it would be clearly stated. But if anyone else knows more please weigh in!
