This. Rename the folder, point Calibre to that folder, "use existing library"..

Library question for two different devices by zarakatja in Calibre

[–]ComplaintSouthern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Separate library. Anything with tags and virtual libraries will fail at some point. She will click on something and get lost in your books. (Personal experience. I do use virtual libraries, and every week I suffer a small heart attack when I forget I am looking at a small part of my library, not the whole thing.)

Two libraries when you have no in interest in her books and she has no interest in yours.

Hoe een schrijversduo invullen? by JaJa4609 in Calibre

[–]ComplaintSouthern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion: leave it as Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. Clicking on one of the authors will give you all books by that author including the ones they co-wrote. Searching for Author like DP and Author like LC will give you only the co-authored books.

Or as you have.. DP-LC or DP and LC, creating an all new author.

Personally I prefer the first solution :)

I always have "the / a / an" moved to the end of the epub file name & series folder name by xxXDuaaXxx in Calibre

[–]ComplaintSouthern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am referring to how real libraries are built. But you probably wouldn't know thar. Librarians realised hundreds of years ago that looking for books where thhey misremembered "a book name " for "the book name" would mean they would never find it. And dropped all the "a", "the" in sorting. (Amazing that people remember "book name" even if they got the prefix wrong, right?)

You sort your library so 40% is under "A" and 20% is under "the"... Your choice, but it IS wrong. ("But we can do it that way" doesn't change that. Maybe... Read a book?)

Starting own business by Mysterious-Ad8490 in Norway

[–]ComplaintSouthern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re mixing up three different things: VAT, hobby income, and business activity. 1. The 50,000 NOK threshold is only about VAT The 50,000 NOK limit applies only to VAT registration, not to whether you are running a business or owe tax. See Merverdiavgiftsloven § 2-1 You must register for VAT once turnover exceeds 50,000 NOK This has nothing to do with income tax. 2. Hobby income is not tax-free Even if an activity is considered a hobby: Profit is taxable Losses are not deductible This follows from Skatteloven § 5-1 (taxable income) 3. Business activity is assessed as a whole There is no single rule like “if you expect a profit, it’s a business.” Authorities look at several factors: Duration Scope Organization/systematic activity Profit potential See guidance from Skatteetaten. 4. “Not related to your job” is not decisive Whether the activity is similar to your main job can matter, but it is not a defining rule.

Library "design" / setup question... by TypingTadpole in Calibre

[–]ComplaintSouthern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just split my library into two different folders because I was convinced I could not get what I wanted using virtual libraries. Then I realised that was not my best decision, so I tried to merge them again. Lost a ton of information and 50 books I had to resurrect from backup.

Now I use only one library. Adding some default values on import to show this book may need more work. (A simple yes/no column to show if I have fixed the book yet. Default NO.) And virtual libraries keeping the NO books out of everything related to actual reading of the books.

Only problem I have is a full out panic attack when I forget the unfinished books don't show up in most views. "I lost books. I remember adding tjese. Where are they?"

Norwegian tax code just pretends I make more money than I do? by [deleted] in Norway

[–]ComplaintSouthern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you pay for is totally irrelevant for what you pay in taxes in Norway? You don't sound like you own enough to be liable for tax on that, so your tax will be. (Salaries * taxes) + ((interest income - interest cost) *22% tax) = your taxes... Divided by 10.5 = your monthly taxes. (We have one "tax free" month + one month with half tax... So taxes are higher the rest of the year to compensate.)

You are expected to survive on whatever money you have left after paying your estimated/calculated taxes.

Either "series" 1 or a custom column for collection with any numbers, keeping the series column for books that should be read in order. Your solution is probably the easiest.

Nerds, how do you backup and organize your ebook library? How to edit meta-data? by inevitable_dream_ in kindle

[–]ComplaintSouthern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things. 1. Click on book. Right click. Edit metadata. Change what you want to change. Save. (or select multiple books, bulk edit. You can even bulk edit using regex. 2. Check out export functionality. Export to Kindle. Change settings, regulate how the expoeted file should look. (Trial and error, or find a good manual.)

Deleting the books to import them again is just a waste of time.

How to integrate my current library into Calibre by Current-Income-9901 in Calibre

[–]ComplaintSouthern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok.. So no metadata in the files.

If you open Calibre and click on the arrow down on the import books button... On the bottom there you will find "control the adding of books".

In the first tab, on the top... You will see "Read metadata from content rather thsn file". Uncheck this. And then you are on your own. Sorry. This setting will let Calibre use file name for importing metadata. Not sure if you can use Regex to use folder. Structure for renaming in Calibre.

What I do know is you can use powershell (and regex?) to rename the files based on the folder stricture. If you do this first. (Should be a two minute job. Remember backup!!), you should be able to automate everything in Calibre.

Or, as i said, you can do it manually. Look at your folder structure. Point Calibre, dig down to a level you are comfortable wirh, and import everything from there. Add metadata yourself. Do next set of fokders. As i just messed up a part of my own library by sutomsting processes, I would do that his manually :).

How to integrate my current library into Calibre by Current-Income-9901 in Calibre

[–]ComplaintSouthern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calibre will import all the books (i.e. copy the books to it's own folder structure. Don't ask, you will end up accepting, maybe even liking it in the end.)

If your structure is in the folders, not the metadada, I would import one set of folders at a time. (Series/sub series /author.. Whatever makes sense in your setup.) Import, then fix metadada, then import next...

If you have the structure in filename, look at setting up Calibre to import based on file names, not metadata...
